Chapter 76: Ch.75 Spinning Lies
Su Ming didn't like the Lasso of Truth. It didn't suit his combat style. He wasn't Wonder Woman, capable of standing toe-to-toe with someone on the battlefield. While he did have a healing factor, it still fell short compared to demigods.
What if he was caught in a standoff and got attacked by other enemies? Should he dodge or not?
Though his strength was far beyond that of an ordinary person, it couldn't compare to Wonder Woman's. In his hands, the Lasso of Truth could, at most, restrain someone at Aquaman's level, and not for long.
Most importantly, he preferred killing, using blades and bullets to eliminate enemies directly. Capturing tools like the lasso were better left to Barry.
For someone like Barry, who wasn't keen on killing or torturing enemies, the lasso was very useful. After they returned to the main universe and faced the Dark Knights, having such an addition to their forces would be beneficial.
The only item Su Ming planned to keep for himself was the Sword of Ares. It was forged from Divine Metal, a material unrelated to this current incident, but still valuable. The flawless craftsmanship of the blacksmith god made this weapon perfect for him.
Divine Metal, as its name implies, is a metal used by the gods of Earth. Its full name is Metal of the Gods, and many of the old god pantheons used it to create weapons and armor.
In the comics, the gods claimed this sword could cut through anything, possessing the power to slay gods. It was one of the most powerful weapons on Earth.
Though Divine Metal was formidable, it wasn't the hardest substance in this universe. Promethium was harder and weapons forged from it could clash head-to-head with the Sword of Ares. Weapons made from Nth Metal could easily pierce armor forged from Divine Metal. And then there was X-Metal, used to create the DC Universe itself, completely in a league of its own.
Other big players in the multiverse had their own unique metals, all more potent than Divine Metal.
Most of these metals weren't obtained from radioactive isotopes but came from extraterrestrial or multiversal sources. The old gods hadn't fully realized their potential.
However, the Sword of Ares at least had the name of a divine artifact. If the enemy didn't have metal to counter it, this weapon would greatly enhance Su Ming's attack power. Besides, he'd never used a divine artifact before, so it was worth a try.
Watching the two unconscious figures on the ground, he leaned against the hut's wall and waited quietly.
"Ugh... where... am I?!"
As expected, Dane was the first to wake up. He dramatically rubbed his eyes and stretched, then suddenly noticed he was only wearing a pair of underwear. He let out a high-pitched scream, covering his chest with his hands.
Immediately afterward, he saw Su Ming leaning against the doorway, recalling that this person dressed like an owl had defeated him using some mystical tool.
Looking down at his arms, the Medusa bracelets were still emitting a faint black glow, leaving him with only the strength of an ordinary person. But despite this, he refused to give up. After all, he was a trained warrior.
He rolled forward and launched himself at Su Ming, but Su Ming didn't even bother to dodge, letting him punch him right in the chest.
Nothing happened to Su Ming. Although he looked like he was dressed in a noble's coat, underneath the coat and cape, he was still wearing his uniform.
What happens when an ordinary person punches Promethium armor bare-handed?
"Ow!"
Dane jumped back, clutching his wrist in pain. This was the first time he'd felt pain.
In the past, when he had his divine power and full equipment, he was the one causing pain to others. Now, experiencing this himself, he found it agonizing to the point that tears welled up in his eyes.
Su Ming shook his head. He needed to wrap this up quickly, or he really might puke from the disgust. He raised his hand and grabbed Dane by the throat, lifting him off the ground with just a bit of effort.
If he clenched his fist, Dane would certainly die.
But he hadn't gone to all this trouble just to kill them. With a flick of his arm, Dane, his face turning purple from lack of air, was thrown out, landing on top of the Sea Queen, waking her from her unconsciousness.
"Stay put, or I'll make you suffer more," Su Ming said, mimicking the Claw's voice. Although it didn't sound very convincing, the other side didn't know that.
"Who the hell are you, and how dare you!" The Sea Queen stood up, bracing herself against the wall. She felt weaker than ever, the strange bracelets sapping nearly all her strength.
"Sea Queen, Dane, since we've captured you both, can't you guess what we plan to do?"
Su Ming deliberately led them into speculation. The plan wasn't foolproof. It would be hard to deceive them alone, so he needed them to let their imaginations run wild—the worse, the better.
Hearing Su Ming's words, the two instinctively moved away from each other, standing on guard. Su Ming stood at the door while they each took a corner of the room.
Seeing their reaction, Su Ming sighed inwardly. In the main universe, Diana was at least somewhat clever, but how could the ones in this universe be so slow?
"We've already sent in professional body doubles to replace you in Amazonia and Atlantis. Soon, the new 'you' will issue commands, and the two sides will go to full-scale war. This world will be destroyed by us."
He put on a show, but in truth, both Paradise Island and the Atlanteans only wanted world domination, not the Earth's destruction. It was about the benefits without wanting to face the consequences of war. Now, by bringing up the destruction of the world, he was steering their thoughts where he wanted them.
Dane, clutching his chest, cowered in a corner. He was terrified by Su Ming's words but soon seemed to remember something and regained his confidence.
"Dream on! My mother and the Amazon Council are on Paradise Island. Even if an impostor me gives the orders, they won't be accepted."
Su Ming's owl-shaped head turned to him, the round goggles hiding his expression. All Dane heard was a ghostly voice.
"Then we'll just kill the queen. No one will suspect the 'you' who inherits the throne, right? Once our operative becomes the Amazonian king, the queen's death will be the perfect excuse to declare full-scale war with Atlantis, hahahaha!"
Dane's eyes widened, his pale face showing sheer terror as he pictured the scene.
The Amazons didn't want a full-scale war with the Atlanteans. Their current strategy was to keep them confined to the ocean, knowing full well the consequences. If they could have fought, they would have done so centuries ago. The cold war between land and sea was a stalemate.
"And you!" Su Ming's head turned toward the Sea Queen in the other corner. She was calmer but her eyes darted around, seemingly looking for a makeshift weapon in the room. "Don't think you're the only one who can command sea creatures. We have someone in Atlantis too. She's ready to take your place. The holder of Poseidon's Trident rules as king. Just wait for the war to start and then watch the Amazons kill every creature in the sea."
The Sea Queen's heart skipped a beat. If this madman was so sure, he must know where Poseidon's Trident was hidden. This was bad...
"Why are you doing this? No one benefits from it!" Dane, tears welling up, cowered further into his corner.
Su Ming was waiting for this question. He immediately let out a bizarre laugh, like the hoot of an owl at midnight. "Because our master loves a broken world. He is the Dark God. When enough people in this world have died, he will descend!"
