Chapter 33: Being a Secretary
“Don’t make a sound. Stop the car later and check if there’s a tracking device or a listening device in the car,” Smith whispered into Barrett’s ear.
Barrett nodded and found a place to stop the car. He then took out a device that was a size of a cell phone and scanned the entire car.
“Boss, there’s no problem,” said Barrett after checking the car.
“Go investigate Ophelia. I suspect that she’s a spy,” said Smith with a cold expression.
“Ah?”
Barrett was confused.
He knew Smith’s file better than anyone else. He had never received counter-espionage training. How could he be so sure that someone was a spy?
“Don’t be too surprised. If she did not say that she wanted to work in my company, I really wouldn’t have been able to tell. However, one of my company’s special abilities is to attract spies.”
“Right now, other than me, my entire company is filled with people like you, investigators. This was enough to explain the issue at hand.”
“Therefore, when she said that she wanted to work at my company, I knew that she was 100% a spy,” said Smith calmly. However, his tone was filled with disappointment.
The Ophelia that he liked previously was a potential spy. She even came back to China just to harm him.
No one could understand why.
“There’s such an ability?”
Barrett was confused after he heard the ability.
Later, Barrett made a call and arranged for someone to investigate Ophelia.
“Boss, since you know that she’s a spy, why did you still agree to let her work with you?” asked Barrett worriedly. He was afraid that Smith had fallen into her beauty trap.
“Have you found any spies that look like a threat at first? Besides, aren’t you guys still working in my company? Most importantly, the enemy has already planted her honey trap. If I don’t play along, I’ll be losing out. Oh right, if you want to arrest her, wait until I’m done with her,” said Smith in a serious tone.
“Boss, you really know how to play.”
The next day, Ophelia put on a business suit. She looked very capable.
In all honesty, if Ophelia did not say that she wanted to work in his company, Smith would have definitely fallen for her trap given her looks and figure.
Unfortunately, after the incident, Smith would not let himself fall for her no matter how beautiful she looked.
“Good morning, boss.”
Ophelia walked to Smith and greeted him.
She tilted her head and smiled like a little girl.
Smith’s heart was not as moved as when he first saw Ophelia.
“Boss, what is my role?” asked Ophelia.
“Secretary, of course,” said Smith whilst smiling.
“Secretary?”
Ophelia widened her eyes in disbelief.
“Yes, it would be a waste for you to not be my secretary.”
“If you are my secretary, when you have nothing to do, you can play with me in my office. When you do have something to do, you can go do it. With your talent, there is absolutely no problem. This is a good arrangement,” said Smith with a smile.
“You men are horrible when you have money. You are just like them,” said Ophelia disdainfully whilst pouting.
“It can’t be helped. It’s not our fault.”
Smith shrugged indifferently.
Ophelia was very unhappy. However, in order to get close to Smith, it was not a bad idea to be his secretary.
Just like that, Ophelia signed the contract in the personnel department and officially took the job.
Smith’s heart was completely broken.
What else was there to say? She was definitely a spy.
“Boss, do you need a little girl to pour you a cup of tea?” asked Ophelia unhappily.
After Ophelia finished her job, she went to Smith’s office. She saw Smith playing games.
“There’s no need. Come and massage my shoulders,” said Smith without raising his head.
Ophelia was a little confused. This was different from her plan.
Why was Smith not fawning over her?
Why was she the one serving him?
“Hurry up, my shoulders are a little sore. Why are you still standing there when you can massage me?” said Smith when he saw Ophelia frozen in place. He then turned around.
“Smith, I’m here to get experience, not to be your slave. You’re humiliating me,” said Ophelia angrily.
“Humiliating you? No, we’re all adults. Adults only talk about benefits, not right and wrong. You have to put in the work to get what you want. If you’re not willing to be my secretary, I won’t force you. You can leave now. There are a lot of people who want to be my secretary anyway,” said Smith whilst shaking his head.
At this point, if Ophelia turned around and leave, Smith might feel a little regretful. However, he would definitely not regret it.
If she left, then there would be a small possibility that she was not a spy. After all, the attributes of the perfect-level office only increased by 30 points. It did not go over 100 points. Therefore, there might still be loopholes.
However, in the next moment, Smith was completely speechless.
Ophelia walked behind Smith and placed her hands on his shoulders. She then began to massage him.
“Have you thought it through?”
Smith finished playing his game and looked at Ophelia.
“I need money. My father is paralyzed, and my mother is a diabetic. I came back to China because I wanted to take care of my parents. I was hoping that my old classmate would help me, but I didn’t expect that all of you would be the same. In that case, for the sake of helping your old classmate, can you give me a sum of money first? From now on, I’ll be yours,” said Ophelia.
Her eyes were red.
It was as if her spirit and energy had been sucked out of her. She was extremely dispirited, and her tone was filled with despair.
Her acting skills were not bad. She seemed like someone who could win the Oscars. If someone was able to cry on command, no one would ever drop them.
“How much money do you need?” asked Smith.
Smith pulled Ophelia in front of him. His eyes narrowed.
“Five million,” said Ophelia whilst gritting her teeth.
“It’s nothing. Money is not the problem. The problem is whether you are worth the price,” said Smith while tapping his fingers on the table.
“Don’t worry. I have never been in a relationship. I have never had a boyfriend,” said Ophelia whilst gritting her teeth.
Ophelia resisted the urge to slap Smith.
“Perfect!”
Smith snapped his fingers.
