It took a little longer this time before a message came back, “Got something to handle, I’ll be back tomorrow morning. You should rest early, I’ll call you tonight, remember to keep your phone on.”
Pfft!
If by “tonight” he meant very late, did she really have to keep her phone on and wait? That’s just too domineering.
But his domineering manner wasn’t at all displeasing.
Rong Yan put away her phone and didn’t reply, deciding to wait a while to surprise him. She glanced out the car window to check the traffic, unsure of how far they were from their destination.
“Assistant Gu, how much longer until we arrive?”
Gu Ming had been focused on driving for three hours, and his forehead showed traces of fatigue. He glanced at the navigation and said, “We’re almost there.”
“At most ten minutes.”
“Ten minutes, huh…” Rong Yan took the paper bag that was beside her into her hands, looking forward to the reaction she’d get from a certain someone upon receiving the gift.
Although Gu Ming said ten minutes, they actually encountered a traffic jam on the way and it took them about half an hour to arrive.
As the car slid into the grand exterior of the company, Rong Yan heard a noisy commotion.
“Bring out your responsible person! Yes, bring out someone who takes responsibility!”
“My son, oh how tragic. Your wife just had a baby, and you loved children so much, how could you think of suicide? Damn it, you drove someone to a dead end, and you still don’t give an explanation, wanting to drive us away, we won’t leave…”
“It really is a big company, I heard this company has a formidable background, no wonder they are so overbearing, such a big incident and yet not a single response. The bigger the shop, the greater the bully, this is too much!”
“Daddy, I want my daddy. Wah, Mommy, where did Daddy go?”
“Tingting, be good, your daddy… your daddy has left us.”
“Wah, I want my daddy, I want my daddy!”
Outside was in chaos, with a crowd completely blocking the road. Gu Ming tried honking several times to no avail; it was impossible to proceed.
He turned to Rong Yan, helplessly saying, “Miss Rong, the road ahead is blocked, the car can’t get through. Shall I find a parking lot and you get out first, or do you want to go with me to park the car?”
Rong Yan could hear the commotion outside even through the glass. She pursed her lips, her clear eyes filled with worry, and then she opened the car door saying, “I’ll get out and see what’s happening. You go park.”
Gu Ming thought this was better. But still concerned she might get knocked over by the crowd, he cautioned, “Then Miss Rong, please wait here for me, don’t go over there, I will come and take you to find Mr. Li.”
“Don’t worry, I’ll take good care of myself.”
She said so resolutely that Gu Ming indeed couldn’t drive the car through; he had to wait for Rong Yan to get out of the car before he could go look for a place to park.
Once Rong Yan stepped out of the car, she felt even more how many people had gathered outside the company—at a glance, at least a hundred. Aside from the outer circle of onlookers, the inside was even more chaotic.
A few strong men were holding a white banner that read “Heartless company drives employee to death, unscrupulous without giving an explanation,” and at the very front, several people were crying a storm.
Among them, a woman with a face full of horizontal flesh looked sharp and fierce, not someone to be easily messed with. She was accompanied by two small children. The boy, probably only about two years old, stood beside her, bewildered and not understanding what the adults were fussing about. Another girl, a bit older, was at that moment crying her heart out, screaming for her father…
