Chapter 1184 Defying The Odds

“I'm not dead.” Herald's voice was hoarse, tinged with an inexplicable sense of exhaustion.

He lifted his head, his gaze meeting the chillingly cold, deep eyes of Lucas.

He couldn't help but curve his lips into a smile. “Mr. Nolan, I'll admit defeat. Even though the island is gone, I don't want to die. I'm even grateful that I'm still alive.”

“It's clear that compared to life, that island means nothing,” Lucas said indifferently, then gestured for Spencer to proceed with the transfer procedures for the small island.

Despite his reluctance, Sloan knew that the island had to be ceded.

And all the technology of new energy still remained in the hands of Section Six.

They still remained the passive party.

A determined expression surfaced on his face. “Don't worry, Mr. Nolan. I will make sure all the procedures are completed today. Mr. White, please come with me.”

With a humble bow of his head, Spencer said, “I appreciate your help, Mr. Lacey.”

Sloan paused for a breath, his face wearing a forced smile. “Mr. White, you're too kind.”

“Well, in that case, we won't disturb you any longer. Today's... performance has indeed brought me great pleasure,” said Lucas as he rose from his chair.

The man was extremely tall, his stern face subtly radiating a lethal aura.

Herald could only respond with a smile. “The troubles with new energy... I wonder when you could help us solve them, Mr. Nolan?”

Lucas merely gave him a cold glance. “No rush. We're not leaving so soon.”

He took a step forward, extending his large hand to gently grasp Ashlyn's smaller one. The stern lines on his face softened slightly. “Honey, let's go.”

His gentle and doting voice made it seem as if he wasn't the man who was filled with a deadly aura just now.

Ashlyn gave him a languid glance. “Sure!”

Seeing the interaction between the two, almost everyone took a sharp intake of breath.

Herald, especially, was completely frozen in place.

Lucas Nolan is married... Many people are aware of this. This man has never deliberately concealed the fact that he is married. So... is this woman the legendary Mrs. Nolan? He's clearly telling everyone that this woman is his. Anyone who dares to have ulterior motives toward her must be tired of living!

A chill ran down Herald's spine. Just moments ago, he had harbored a hint of affection and curiosity for Ashlyn. But now everything had vanished without a trace.

Lucas held Ashlyn's hand as they left the meeting room and didn't let go until they got into the car. It was only then that Spencer couldn't help but burst into laughter.

“Ms. Berry, how are you so amazing! You're just too awesome!”

The thought of Ashlyn ruthlessly dealing with Sloan and his crew brought him immense satisfaction.

It was absolutely exhilarating especially when Ashlyn was putting that bunch in their place.

It was simply spectacular.

He had wanted to laugh for a while now, but he had been holding it in.

Ashlyn curled her lips, a faint mockery flickering in her eyes. “They're simply courting death for bullying my man.”

Lucas, who had been sitting by her side all along, looked at Ashlyn's radiant face, a hint of indulgence flashing in his eyes.

His thin lips parted slightly, and his rich voice echoed in the woman's ear. “Honey, you're amazing.”

Ashlyn turned her head, her long lashes fluttering, and then she couldn't help but laugh.

Lucas was captivated by her enchanting smile, a gentle glow radiating from the depths of his eyes.

Unable to resist, he reached out and pulled her into his embrace, his large hand gently caressing the soft strands of her hair.

“My wife is the best in the world.” His voice, deep and pleasant, rang out once again.

Listening to the man's affectionate praise, Ashlyn felt a sense of joy bubbling up from the depths of her heart.

Her beautiful, pitch-black eyes became even more dazzling.

“Ms. Berry, you were so lucky. You got a straight flush not just once, but twice? Isn't that defying the odds?” Spencer asked.

How could the odds be so high?

“Have you forgotten? I shuffled the cards before I handed them to Herald.” Ashlyn smirked. “I know exactly what the cards I shuffled were. After Herald shuffled them again, I also knew their positions. Herald reshuffled the cards, yes, but given his preoccupied mind, he merely gave the deck a few casual shuffles. I could still remember the positions of the cards when I shuffled them. So, when it was my turn to be dealt cards, I happened to get the good ones.”
