Chapter 287 287: Second Hidden Treasure
Chapter 287 287: Second Hidden Treasure
?
Rezen checked all the wooden shelves but found nothing noteworthy. He even moved some books in the hope to activate a hidden mechanism that would reveal a secret room just like in the novels he had read before
If he can't find anything in this room then the only thing he could use it for was to turn the room into a secret hideout that not many have the ability to discover
He continued the search even though he doesn't know what exactly he was looking for and even after minutes passed, he still found nothing
The black snake was the same. In the past, it already searched all over the room for anything useful but it found nothing. As it feared dying from the human's hand if it didn't find anything it was wishing that it merely didn't search hard enough in the past
Unfortunately, no matter how hard the snake searched, it simply cannot find anything and it gave up. It slithered its way to the top of the table while lowering its head
"H-human, there's really nothing in this room" the snake said anxiously and Rezen turned to look at it
'It seems like there is really nothing here. Should I kill this snake as consolation? I could either have the farm absorb its corpse or I could sell it. Since it's at the 3rd cycle, the selling price is still considerable for someone like me" Rezen thought while staring at the snake as if it was a piece of meat
For some reason, the snake seems to have the ability to read Rezen's mind as it sensed his dark plans for it
"Human you are evil! I helped you search and now you're planning to kill me? How could you be this unreasonable!"
The snake's temper flared up. It felt that the human in front of it was cruel. It took time and effort to obey Rezen and now this human is planning to kill him, how ungrateful could he be?
With a sour heart, the snake hit the table with its tail. Considering that even though it was cowardly the snake is still in the 3rd cycle and it doesn't need to exert much effort to break an old wooden table
Crack...
The snake unable to control its strength broke the table and only then did it realized what it had done and it approached Rezen
"H-human, I-I was wrong please d-don't kill me!" The snake immediately begged while rubbing its head into Rezen's leg
Before Rezen could even speak his eyes were attracted by something. The broken pieces of the table moved on their own to form a wooden door
Even Ivy didn't sense anything from that table earlier yet it has such an ability. It seems like there really is something in this place but the only way to access it is to break the table to have access to the door
The snake also noticed the disturbance and it was greatly surprised. It didn't know that the wooden table could do that
"H-human, I wasn't throwing a tantrum earlier. I-I just suddenly had a thought 'What if I break this table, would something happen?' That's why I did it!"
The snake shamelessly tried to clean its name and for now, Rezen decided not to kill it. However, as punishment for its shamelessness, Rezen fired another magic missile
The magic missile was not strong enough to kill or heavily injure the snake but it was more than enough to hurt it
e?glesn??el "A-ahh! I'm dying! I'm dying! It hurts!"
The snake dramatically wiggled its body on the floor while enduring the pain and Rezen shook his head
He approached the door, twisted the doorknob, and opened it. The other side of the door was yet another room but this room is even smaller and emptier than the first room
The room only has one thing inside and it was a blue box not emitting any energy fluctuations at all but Rezen knew instinctively that the box's content is the treasure he was searching for
With a heart beating with anticipation Rezen approached the box and fortunately, it doesn't have any form of lock. Anyone could simply open it and the box only contained two things
One is a glass bottle and from its aesthetics, it should be a potion bottle. The design was elegant with golden engravings all over it. As for the potion itself, the color was transparent
Deciding not to consume the potion without first verifying its effects Rezen turned his attention to the other item inside the box which was a scroll
The scroll gave Rezen a familiar feeling and he had a hunch of its origin. He untied the scroll and opened it
The scroll contained many letters and they rearranged themselves on their own to form sentences
"To the Fated One,
You who are fortunate enough to discover one of my hidden treasures have two choices but before you choose allow me to explain something first
The potion you discovered is both a failure and a success. I spent decades and countless resources to create it but it was only half a success. This potion has one simple effect but it was nothing but miraculous
Anyone who consumes it would have their talent elevated to an entirely different level. This potion is enough to create a future Great Mage without ruining one's potential. In fact, the potion's effect is to elevate one's talent until they are powerful enough to reach at least the 1st cycle of the Great Mage Rank without negatively affecting any possible future progress and development. A mage could still reach beyond the Great Mage Rank but that depends on their talent and luck"
Reading until this point Rezen's heart shook violently. This is exactly the kind of treasure that he needed
There might be natural resources and potions that could elevate one's talent but the former is not currently accessible to Rezen while the latter mostly has severe side effects
If this letter was stating a fact then this is the greatest treasure that Rezen ever encountered and is perfect for his current situation. While calming his heart, Rezen continued reading the letter
"However, as great as the potion may be it was only half a success. I didn't lie when I said that the potion could create a future Great Mage but the premise is that the consumer must survive
The energy that the potion contained was too high and concentrated that it would cause the body to break. A Great Mage could consume it with little problem but it would hardly increase their talent. As for those that are below that Great Mage realm, their body would simply explode from the influx of energy
If you ever find a way to prevent yourself from dying after consuming the potion then you are in luck. The first choice is that you can consume this potion but if you decide not to you could choose the second option which is to present the potion to any military branch and you could request for resources, information, or instructors that are at the same level as the potion
Best Wishes,
Humanity's Guardian"
Rezen felt like someone showed him what heaven looks like just to tell him that he is to live in hell
As tempting as the offer of exchanging the potion with other things might be the thing that Rezen wanted the most was to increase his aptitude
If this potion needed countless resources and decades of the Guardian's time to create then Rezen doubted that he could receive a potion of similar effect with no side effects
"Ivy, is there no way for me to use this potion?" Rezen asked trying his luck but he was actually not disappointed by Ivy
"Master could use the farm to slowly digest the potion. Master could plant a seed into the farm but the seed must soak and absorb the potion's properties first before it could be planted. The seed would then grow and the fruits would have the same effects as the potion albeit with a smaller talent boost. But in this way, Master can slowly consume the potion without dying from the energy influx"
Hearing those words was akin to hearing the chime of the heavens' bells. It was not hopeless!
By using a seed that absorbs the properties of the potion Rezen could constantly improve his talent little by little. It's not a huge boost in one go but this is more than enough for him!
In this realm, Great Mages are the most powerful and if Rezen were to reach that realm, he would have almost no one to fear!
"Guardian... once again you blessed me" Rezen muttered. This is the second hidden treasure of the Guardian that he discovered
The first time was through his own luck and this second one used the luck from the fortune fruit that he consumed
If possible, Rezen would repay the Guardian for the help he indirectly gave to Rezen
