Chapter 234 Current Market Value
Chapter 234 Current Market Value
After staying at the stadium for a while, after listening to all the president had to tell them, it was now time for the players to start heading home.
"Season's about to kick off," Dave muttered as he stepped out of the building with Mateo.
The two had already gotten to the exit point of the area when Dave's phone began to ring in his pocket.
He brought his phone out of his pocket to see that it was someone he should have called as soon as he arrived at Bilbeth and now he was hesitant to pick up the call.
"Hey, what's wrong?" Mateo asked after noticing how he suddenly stopped.
"It's Emma." The goalkeeper said.
"Oh, pick up the call then," Mateo said.
"Are you kidding me? She has to be super mad at me now."
"Super mad at you? Why?" Mateo asked.
"I was supposed to call her as soon as we arrived here but I forgot and now she's the one calling me." The goalkeeper said.
"Yeah, she gets mad about stuff like that, but still, you have to pick the call, it's not like she can hit you from over there." The winger said.
"Yeah, you're right." He said before he slowly pressed the answer button. "Hey, babe."
There was no response from her side for a little while which Dave didn't take as a good sign.
"Hey, how are you doing?" She finally said something, something that Dave wasn't expecting to hear from the get-go.
"I'm okay, I'm heading home right now." He replied.
"Heading home? Have you guys already arrived at Bilbeth?"
<I guess she doesn't even know yet>
"Yeah." The goalkeeper replied.
"And you didn't call me?"
"I forgot, sorry."
She was quiet for a while before letting out a sigh.
"It's okay, just get home quickly okay." She said.
"Sure thing, I'll be there in a few minutes." He said.
"You better be." She said, "And one more thing."
"What?"
"Is Mateo there with you?" She asked.
"Yeah, he's right here." He replied with his gaze on the winger.
"What?" Mateo asked.
"Bring him home with you okay, bye." She said before ending the call.
"Did you two just bring me into your conversation?" The winger asked.
"Umm…sort of, she asked me to bring you home with me," Dave replied.
"Why?"
"She didn't say, but I'm guessing it's something important, let's go." The goalkeeper said before he began to make his way out of the area.
It didn't take long for the two to arrive and approaching his house now, the goalkeeper could see that the flowers were well trimmed, and he also discovered that the lawn was also cut nicely.
'I guess she's been keeping herself busy.'
The goalkeeper stood at the door for a while before raising his folded right hand toward it to knock on it twice.
It didn't take long before the door was opened by Emma who had a bright smile on her face.
"Hey." She said before wrapping her arms around him in a tight hug. "I'm so glad you made it back safely."
"So, why did you tell Dave to bring me here?" Mateo asked before making his way into the house.
"Hey, you can't just walk into my house like that." Emma quickly turned to him to say.
"Why not? You were the one that asked for me to come here." The winger said before turning his gaze to the dining section on the left to see that the table was set with a variety of dishes on the table. "So, that's where that smell was coming from."
Emma let out a deep sigh before slowly making his way to her brother.
"It was meant to be a surprise but, oh well." She said,
"A surprise," Dave said before walking closer to the two.
"Yeah, I thought you guys were going to be tired and hungry after all that, so I prepared special dishes for you." She said,
"I just hope they taste as good as they look and smell," Mateo said.
"What's that supposed to mean?" She asked before turning to him with a dead stare.
"No, I didn't mean it like that, it's just that your cooking didn't use to be that good in the past but I'm sure your cooking is awesome now, right, Dave." The winger said before putting on a nervous smile.
She stared at him for a while before turning her gaze to Dave.
"You guys need to take off your backpacks first."
After taking off their backpacks, the three sat down to eat together, Emma had a lot of questions to ask.
"Hey, Mateo, can I see the painting or illustration?" Emma asked.
They had to bring up the painting at last and now Emma wanted to see it.
"Um…sure," Mateo said before he reached into his bag which was hanging on the chair he was sitting on and brought out the painting.
"This looks so pretty." Those were Emma's words at first glance. "Everything looks so nice, you really got this from one of your fans."
"Well, she isn't exactly my fan although you may put it that way but I see her as a friend." The winger said.
"She?"
"Yeah, that was a parting gift from Sofia." The winger said.
"Oh, the blonde girl," Emma said.
'I guess he isn't going to avoid talking about her.' Dave said subconsciously.
"Um…"
"What?" Mateo asked.
"Never mind, it's nothing." She said before giving the painting back to him. "She's a really good artist."
After spending about two hours with them, Mateo had to leave and that meant that the couple was alone in the house now.
"It's been quite a long day." The goalkeeper said before slowly getting up from the couch where he had been sitting with Emma.
"Yeah, but where are you going now?" She asked.
"Upstairs, are you coming?" He asked.
"Okay." She said before getting up from where she was sitting.
"I wanted to ask this earlier but forgot at some point." The goalkeeper said as they made their way upstairs.
"What?" She asked.
"Today's Monday, aren't you supposed to be at work?" He asked.
"Yeah, but I did a lot of hectic work for my boss yesterday so she decided to give me a day off today." She explained.
"Oh, I see." He said. "So you didn't ditch work to prepare a surprise meal for us."
"Ditch work? Why would I ever do that?" She said with a little chuckle.
"Yeah, it's not something you would do but that means that I won't feel guilty doing this now."
"Doing…"
Before she could finish what she wanted to say, he had already lifted her up and was making his way toward the room now.
"Hey, slow down."
After getting to the room, he slowly made his way to the bed and dropped her there.
"You got a silky bed sheet, that's good." He said after feeling the texture of the bedsheet.
"I'm glad you like it." She said before she sat up on the bed and leaned closer to him.
The two stayed like that for a while before they slowly locked lips and just as that happened, something else happened.
