My Goalkeeping System

Chapter 352 What A Relief

Chapter 352 What A Relief

?

That goal came as a really big shock to Supreme United and the scorer wasn't able to keep his voice down.

Mateo raced to the sidelines pulling himself out of the grip of Fred who was trying to pull him down, and as soon as he got there, he lifted both of his hands before screaming as loud as he could.

"Yes!" Dave yelled from his goalpost as he lifted both of his hands.

The fans were jumping in jubilation and even some of the home fans couldn't help but applaud that goal.

"This the first time Supreme United is conceding a goal this early in the last two decades, that was a truly magnificent goal," Jim commented.

"Yeah, normally he wouldn't try something like that but he just went all the way, that has to be the goal of the month, I haven't seen a goal as good as that since the season kicked off." Steve expressed.

"Yeah, no doubt about that, Steve," Jim said.

That was a magnificent strike that Perez couldn't do anything to stop, it was really worth that hyped celebration, but the celebration had to come to an end for the game to resume.

'Hey, Catherine that's one correct prediction right, so that means one guaranteed stat point, right?'

<No, you're not there yet>

'Huh?'

<Your prediction was that Mateo was going to score two goals, and as far as I am concerned, that hasn't happened yet>

'Hey, but you didn't put it that way back at the house.'

<Because I thought you understood it, but I guess you don't, you could have stopped at a goal and guaranteed yourself a stat point, but unless Mateo scores a second goal, you won't be getting anything on the prediction you made on him>

'Fine, I know Mateo is going to score a second goal anyway, but it may take a while.' The goalkeeper replied.

The match resumed with Supreme passing the ball around looking for the slightest opportunity to strike back at Unique FC, but so far, they had not been able to find any as Unique FC were being extremely cautious in this match.

Foden got hold of the ball from one of the defenders before he quickly moved it down the middle, and just as he was about to run into Martinez, he pushed the ball to Zlensky whose path was quickly blocked by Ferran who didn't have any trouble taking the ball off him with a neat tackle.

"Nicely done by Ferran."

As soon as he got hold of the ball, Ferran moved a little further up with it, before passing it to Martinez who quickly sent it flying over to the other side with a lob.

Minino brought the ball down with his chest before Pelcao could get to him and just like how that first goal happened, he found Mateo making a run down the wing.

There was a good chance that it was going to fail since he had already done it before but to him, it was worth another shot and he did exactly what his instincts told him to do.

"Oh, he's sent it flying over to Mateo again," Jim said.

Mateo was running toward Michael just like the first time, but this time, Michael looked fierce, and as soon as the ball got close enough, he jumped up and headed the ball away from the area.

"Michael's not letting him through this time."

The ball flew past his teammates who were rushing toward the goalpost to prevent another goal from happening and was now flying toward Ferran who was for some reason keeping his distance from the box.

The midfielder quickly brought the ball down with his chest, and as soon as the ball bounced on the pitch once, he pulled his right leg back and sent the ball flying toward the goalpost.

"Ferran!"

The ball was sent flying toward the right side of the goalpost with a little bit of elevation and it had quite the shot power pushing it from behind, but all those things weren't able to stop Perez as he dived toward the ball and caught it before it could go any further.

"Wow, what a save from Perez!" Jim exclaimed.

"That could have turned out differently for them, that's why it's very important to have a decent goalkeeper between the sticks," Steve said.

Perez quickly got up and sent the boy flying toward Roland to try and create a counterattack, but his plan was thwarted by Martinez who was able to get to the ball before him and knowing that the striker had what it took to get the ball off him, he quickly sent the ball flying back to Dave.

"That was a close call, Unique FC don't want to give them any free spaces," Jim said.

"And they shouldn't give them any free space because if they do, they're going to regret it and it won't be a nice experience for them." Steve expressed.

"I think they know that, even more than you do, Steve."

The match continued till the thirtieth minute with Supreme United being unable to find that equalizer that they were desperately looking for and Unique FC being unable to get that second goal to give themselves a little bit of assurance that they were going to come out on top at the end of the day.

The match had been quite interesting in terms of the way both teams seemed to attacking aggressively as if they were trying to see who was going to outscore the other, the way the defense from both teams were handling themselves quite well, and the little dramas that had already happened because of some tackles, but so far there had only been four yellow cards and three of those cards were shown to Supreme United players.

Namely, Pelcao, Zlensky, and Michael, and as for the one card against Unique FC, it wasn't against Minino fortunately and he was still valid for the next match.

The player who received the card was Roland after he pulled off a questioning tackle against Diego.

One thing and one thing alone was very odd in this match, and that was the fact that Supreme United had not been able to get a single shot on target up till now and that meant that Dave had not been able to make any saves or contribute to the match in any major way.

This was the first time in history that they had not been able to get a shot on target for the first thirty minutes in a match.

They were doing quite well with their attacks and they were putting the pressure on Unique FC with the opportunities they got, but their shots were just going sideways and upward.

The closest they had come to getting a shot on target was a header from Roland which ended up hitting the right post before going out for a goal kick.

The match had just entered the thirty-fifth minute when Supreme United won a free kick right at the edge of the box after Diego was tackled down by Martinez right there.

The midfielder didn't get any booking, but it was a foul and now Supreme United had a good chance to try and do something.

"Considering the fact that three out of Diego's six goals this season have come from free kicks, this is a really good chance for Supreme United." Jim articulated.

"Yeah, but he is going up against Dave, the best goalkeeper in the league so far this season, it's not going to be that easy," Steve said.

"Anything can happen though, let's just watch and see."

Unique FC set up their four-man wall with the other players inside the box.

After making sure that everything was set, the referee blew his whistle and now it was up to Diego.

'He's really good with freekicks but I'm going to stop him.' Dave said subconsciously as he adjusted his gloves. 'I have to stop him.'

Diego slowly took three steps backward and paused for a while before he quickly closed up on the ball and sent it flying toward the top right-hand side of the goalpost.

"Can he add another one to his free-kick tally this season? Diego!"

Dave dived toward the ball right on time, and with the tip of his glove, he sent the ball over the bar.

"Of course, he saved it, that's what he does best," Steve said.

"First shot on target for Supreme United and first save for Dave in the match," Jim said. "It had to be a memorable first save for the ball magnet."

"Let's see how they deal with the corner kick."

Zlensky was standing over the ball now waiting for the referee's whistle, and as soon as he heard it, he sent the ball flying into the box, directly toward Roland who was being marked by Adolf.

Adolf jumped up at the same time as Roland and fortunately for him, he was able to get his head on it, but he wasn't able to control it as the ball fell toward the goalpost and hit Roland Ryle before Dave dived forward and caught it.

"Dave dives forward and catches the ball. Uh oh, looks like there's trouble here." Jim uttered.

Diego along with two of his teammates were all gathered around the referee pointing at their hands and trying to convince him that the ball hit Roland's hands while he wasn't putting his hand away.

Even the linesman had his flag up for a handball, but the referee wasn't in a haste to make any decisions. At the end of the day, he decided to go check VAR.

"Best choice, he's going to check VAR," Jim said.

"Oh, not again," Dave muttered before resting his back on the right post.

It didn't take long before the referee returned, and as soon as he entered the pitch, he blew his whistle and gave Dave the signal to send the ball out so that play could resume.

"There's the decision, it's not a penalty, Unique FC players would surely be relieved."

"What a relief," Dave muttered before letting out a sigh.
