Chapter 471: Chapter 472: Don’t Want to Part with You (2)
A sudden emotion flashed in Lu Weixi’s heart, making it skip a beat. She lifted her head slightly, intending to say something, but found herself unable to articulate any words.
Qin Zhiyou waited for her response, but seeing her frowned face, he thought she was unwilling to talk about feelings at the moment. After all, he had always been too stable in the past, and her mother had just recovered from her illness. Speaking about emotional matters didn’t seem appropriate or convincing.
He thought for a moment, pointed at his knee and said,”I was just punished by my grandfather.”
Lu Weixi responded with a nod, and Qin Zhiyou continued, “It is because of this issue.”
Lu Weixi nodded.
Qin Zhiyou explained, “My grandfather is very angry. He was very upset when he found out about your mother’s illness. Moreover, he also learned that I had refused to cooperate with the Bai Family. The stock price of Hanhai plummeted today, and the board of directors is in chaos. My grandfather said that if anything else happens, he might not be able to protect me.”
Lu Weixi gave another “oh.” As expected, she knew the decision Qin Zhiyou made was not mainly because of her.
If divorce happens, not only would his grandfather rage, but also the other members of his family would apply pressure, possibly encouraging the board to dismiss him from his position. The Bai Family might even add to his predicament.
Indeed, their marital union that started out as a marriage of convenience had not managed to cultivate much affection over their five years of cohabitation. Qin Zhiyou’s previous promise never to start another family was simply a measure to protect his own interests. How much genuine affection could there be?
Yet, even though she knew this clearly…she still couldn’t gather the courage to make a definite decision to separate from him.
This frame of mind was unlike when she had broken up with him before.
Breaking up as young lovers, after all, was a matter only between two individuals; it didn’t involve properties or family members. If things were going well, they would continue; if not, they’d break up. Though painful, the sorrow was solely due to the loss of love, not tangled with worries about family and property issues.
However, marriage was different; it involved the collision of two families and required consideration for many practical matters.
After five years of marriage, even without much love, perhaps even with indifference among family members, she had grown accustomed to having him around. Moreover, although his family members were somewhat of a nuisance, after being part of the family for five years, she couldn’t just easily break away.
Of course, no matter how many reasons she found, she knew deep down that she had fallen for Qin Zhiyou and didn’t want to leave him just like this. Even if, in his heart, career and family matters were of utmost importance, she might only occupy a tiny fraction.
She gave no response, and Qin Zhiyou didn’t know how to break the silence. After a long while, he said, “Let’s not get divorced. I promise I won’t fool around anymore; I will earnestly devote myself to our family, and you will be the only one. We’ve been married for five years, Wei Hui, I want to have a child.”
The word “child” made Lu Weixi’s heart jump. She hastily lifted her head to meet his gaze in the mirror.
This time, Qin Zhiyou didn’t look away but stared back at her earnestly. His arm tightly held her in the chair, “I’m twenty-nine years old, and I want a child. I might have been behaving terribly before, not being a good husband or father. But I will try to improve in the future. Wei Hui, I hope you can have a child for me.”
Merely looking at him through the mirror seemed insufficient. Lu Weixi turned to see his eyes, and Qin Zhiyou also lowered his head, his lips moving closer to hers…
PS: I am catching a plane and will only arrive home at eight. The update might have to wait until then, but I promise I won’t be late~
