Chapter 474: Chapter 475: Don’t Want to Part with You (5)
On Monday, Lu Weixi, who had taken three days off and rested for a total of five days including the weekend, finally came back to work. As soon as she arrived at the company, she kept a low profile, burying herself in reviewing all of her work tasks first.
However, during the meeting, the designer who had been covering for her didn’t show up. Lu Weixi had been waiting to hear her report, and her absence complicated things for Weixi.
Not only that, but Lu Weixi felt that the atmosphere of the meeting was rather odd. It seemed like everyone was hiding something, as if they were keeping something from her.
Luckily, the designer’s assistant and Xiaochen had tied up loose ends decently, and her leave hadn’t been that long. She was able to get things back on track. But once the meeting was over, Lu Weixi’s expression instantly clouded over.
“Xiaochen, Xiaoqian, there’s some data I don’t quite understand. Come to my office with me.”
As soon as they closed the office door, Xiaochen immediately reported that the designer who had filled in for her seemed to have ideas about taking her position. She not only attempted to win over the designers and assistants from other project teams, excluding herself and Xiaoqian, but she also tried to liaise directly with Qin Zhigu.
But the work was brutally rejected by Simon White, who told her to “follow Lu’s thought process and not to overthink.” Unconvinced, the designer had submitted another copy to Boss Liao.
Xiaoqian also chimed in with a laugh, “Guess what, Lu? Boss Liao didn’t even look at it. A day later, everyone saw Boss Liao’s secretary dispose of a bunch of useless documents. Among them was this submission. Because our Lulu cover stood out, everyone could see it.”
Lu Weixi remained quiet. She knew that Qin Zhigu’s support was due to their past relationship, and Boss Liao’s indifference was because of his favor for Qin Zhiyou. If she had merely been an ordinary person, the designer’s plot might well have succeeded in replacing her.
After all, only by sheer luck could a small, shabby company like Lulu land such a huge project. That designer might never get another opportunity so grand in her lifetime and may never have a shot at a prize.
She was just a small company that landed a project. Not to mention how many envious eyes were fixated on her from the outside, even her own team’s designers were bold enough to covet Qin Zhiyou. He was at Hanhai, an immense enterprise with a complex personnel structure. Zhiyou was besieged on all sides, with not only business rivals like Bai Changyou but also uncles and aunts at home constantly dragging him down.
He faced so many enemies daily. His father had died early, his mother took no part in the business, his grandfather didn’t support him, and no one protected him. Could you imagine how hard he must work?
The old Lu Weixi only knew that he worked hard, but she had never thought about the hardships he went through. Now, however, her own experience reminded her of Zhiyou’s struggles, and she finally began to comprehend them a little.
At the end of the workday, Lu Weixi didn’t wait for Zhiyou to pick her up and went directly to the hospital.
When she arrived at the hospital, Zhao Zihuan was there too. Lu’s mother was in good spirits that day and eagerly chatted with Weixi the moment she arrived. Zhao Zihuan laughed, “If everything goes smoothly, Aunt Lu can be discharged tomorrow. But remember, she must not be stimulated again.”
A thought crossed Lu Weixi’s mind, and she asked him seemingly nonchalantly, “Should I always agree with whatever my mother says to avoid upsetting her?”
Zhao Zihuan simply laughed, “Only if you wish to see your mother readmitted to the intensive care unit.”
