Chapter 78 It's Hard To Sleep With Zombies Nearby
Chapter 78 It's Hard To Sleep With Zombies Nearby
A/N: I accidentally missed a chapter 2 chapters ago. Go back and read 'Fortify the Settlement', I'm literally so much of an idiot. I don't know how I've managed to do this twice in two days.
Anyways, sorry for the confusion.

A while later, I looked at the insides of the pot.
From what I could tell, everything seemed to be cooked.
"Do you think everything's cooked through?" I asked.
"Um..." Chloe made her way over, "it looked fine to me."
With that, I took the pot off of the heat and poured the contents into two big bowls.
"Ah, it looks so good~" she smiled.
Steam filled the room as I took out some utensils to eat the beef stew with. It looked much more appetising than the plain meat we'd been eating for the past few weeks. Holding the bowl in one hand, I dug in, scooping the vegetables and meat into my mouth. The flavour spread through my tastebuds; it felt like the best thing I had ever eaten.
I guess this is what happens when you eat nothing but plain meat for every meal. It felt like I was having dinner at a three-star Michelin restaurant, except it was just some beef stew that I made in the middle of the apocalypse.
The two of us quickly ate the food, until both of our bowls were as clean as if we had put them through a dishwasher.
"That was yummy~"
"It sure was."
Chloe placed the bowl back into her inventory, as did I.
"By the way, Chloe, I think I've found a way to stay warm outside."
"Really? What is it?"
"I can make Minions which can use fire magic."
"Seriously? Your Minions can even do that?"
"Yep."
"Wow, well, it'll be nice for me to use my system as well."
"They should finish training by tomorrow."
"Okie~"
I took a seat on the bed as I waited for the incoming barrage of zombies tonight. I had been anticipating this all day, I had no idea how brutal it was going to be, in reference to the 'difficulty increase'.
My Minion Manager made its way to me.
[I've got the end-of-day report]

With the resources, I decided to craft 34 more Scout Minions. It required me to buy some more meat off of the Grand Exchange, but I decided to make the investment. I was starting to run a little low on Tokens but I should be getting some more in the next few days if all goes well.
On the bright side, my Magic Scout Minions had also finished their next stage of learning. My army was significantly stronger than it was the previous night.
Seeing that there were so many different types of magic for Scout Minions, I decided to make a separate division for them, this way I could organise them a little better.

With all these different magic-oriented Minions, I was hoping that my army would be significantly more versatile. From the sounds of their names, I assumed that they would have some sort of area-of-effect attacks. I decided that I'd take a good look at what each of the different magic types did, even if it meant standing outside in the cold for a little while.
However, the first thing I wanted to test was the Scout Minion (Fire Magic - Residential Heater). There were still a few minutes before the zombies came so I called them over to me as I made my way outside of the hut.
"Chloe, come with me."
"Huh?"
"We're going to see if the Minions can act as heaters."
"Alright~"
The Minion made its way over to me. Instantly, the entire area around it was warmed up.
Holy crap, it's like room temperature.
Before, it was basically impossible to even stand outside for a few minutes without freezing to death. However, standing next to this Minion, I felt as if I was just walking around in any normal room. All the coldness had disappeared, I could still feel the slight chilliness in the air but it was hardly noticeable.
"No way, it's actually like warm," commented Chloe.
"Yeah, this'll be very useful."
I kept the Minion beside me as I found a good spot near the middle of the settlement where I had a good view of the entire battlefield.
"Ah, I didn't realise you've placed these pedestals around the place."
"Yeah, you can stand on one and shoot the zombies."
Chloe pulled out her [Platinum Bow].
"Actually, I think it's better if the two of us stand near the entrance."

A few moments later, the sounds of disgusting creatures began penetrating through the forest. The entire area was filled with the sounds of footsteps, groaning and the ruffling of vegetation.
All of a sudden, a huge horde of crawling zombies started charging towards the entrance.
They were incredibly fast and unpredictable. However, compared to the previous night, the quantity of them was much much greater. There was like an endless sea of them as they tried to break their way into our camp. They rushed in, with a terrifying appearance, I quickly drew [Mayuri-Luc-Ei] in anticipation of the impending fight.
I noticed that my Archer Scout Minions were beginning to fill the forest with arrows, slaying zombies as fast as they came.
However, what was of most interest to me were the newly trained and educated magic-oriented Scout Minions. I still had no idea what they did, but I'd find out very soon.
