Chapter 108

“Liam called me just before you came, Trisha explained honestly, “He seemed a bit anxious.”

“We didn’t have a fight. He promised to give me a share of his wealth after the divorce. Why would I fight with him? I won’t fight with money” Celeste said.

“Are you going back now?” Trisha asked.

“I’m going to the hospital tonight.” Celeste said, “Elaine contacted me today, saying that my mom seems to be improving and her condition is looking better. I want to spend more time with her, maybe I could wake her up sooner”

“Do you want me to take you there?” Trisha asked.

“No need, I’ve already called a car.” Celeste waved to her, “You have some rest.”

Caitlyn was still the same, not reacting as she had told Trisha

Celeste just wanted to stay by her side, like when she was a child, and whenever she felt wronged, she wanted to be with her mother Even if she couldn’t get any comfort, she felt at ease.

The doctor always reminded her to communicate more with her mother, But in reality, she didn’t know what to say, as they had had very little communication since she was a child.

She tried to recall some past events, but found that there were too few stories to tell.

Elaine looked at her expression and laughed, “You can tell her about your husband. As a mother, she must be very concerned about your happiness.”

“There’s not much to say,” Celeste forced a smile, “If my mom hadn’t had an accident, I might not have married him at all.”

Elaine didn’t know how to respond.

Celeste got up and turned on the radio, an antique that Caitlyn collected.

She loved opera and had a lot of tapes at home. To listen to these tapes, she specially dug up this antique.

Ever since the doctor suggested trying to expose Caitlyn to her favorite things to stimulate her to wake up, Celeste had moved the radio from home to the hospital.

She picked a tape at random, put it in, and pressed play.

Then, she lay down on the accompanying bed and started flipping through a magazine on the table.

The first story she read: “I got pregnant with my ex-husband’s baby after the divorce.”

Celeste sighed and turned to the second story: “My loveless marriage with my husband.”

She didn’t give up and continued flipping

“My husband’s first love wasn’t me, “Flash marriage, flash divorce”…

Celeste looked at the titles and asked Elaine helplessly. “Don’t you think this magazine will scare people away from getting mamed?” Elaine laughed, “These stories are all made up. Who would take them seriously?*

Celeste remained silent.

Suddenly, the heart rate on the monitor fluctuated, blood pressure began to drop, and the device beeped.

Elaine responded quickly and immediately called the doctor.

Celeste left the ward, her mood unsettled. This was the first time she had seen Caitlyn’s finger move.

Not long after, the doctor went in to check, and Caitlyn’s vitals slowly returned to normal.

The doctor said that Caitlyn indeed showed signs of waking up, but they still couldn’t be sure whether she could truly wake up.

They had seen a lot of patients who showed signs of waking up, but still failed in the end, and even some who kicked the bucket shortly after showing those signs.

This freaked Celeste out heavily.

“Of course, our judgment right now is just based on past cases, and it really depends on the patient’s own recovery,” the doctor paused, then asked, “Did she only show this kind of reaction when you were talking to her?”

Celeste shook her head, she didn’t really say much, so it couldn’t be that.

She looked around and suddenly thought of a possibility, “Could it be because she heard this?” She pointed at the radio.

The radio was on the whole time.

Elaine suddenly seemed to remember something. “I think the last time she reacted, there was also a tape playing.”
