“Don’t you have a high–level meeting this afternoon? You postponed it last time; can you do it again this time?”
Liam paused, “Then I’ll go with you tomorrow”
“That works.”
Just as Liam was about to ask why she was being so cooperative today, Celeste said, “Do you know where to get the certificate? Do you know the process? Do you know who to ask for help? Can you stay calm in front of those department officials?”
With each question Celeste asked, Liam’s face turned uglier.
“So you think he can help you and I can’t, is that it?”
Celeste said softly, “That’s not what I mean. You’ve achieved more than anyone in the semiconductor research field, but when it comes to people skills, you’re not as good as Mason.”
Liam was unhappy, “How am I not as good as him?”
“See, you got upset just because I said so. Your team is the hardest working and makes the most money in the company, but when it comes to dealing with people, you’re not as good as Clyde Reed and the others.”
Before Liam could argue, Celeste said, “I know you don’t like people who flatter others and you don’t like underhanded tactics, but society is fluid and the rules can’t be so rigid.”
