Chapter 238

Celeste finally got a day off and after dealing with some annoying cases online and having a quick bite, she went downstairs to study her script. Even though her character was an important role in the play, the truth was she didn’t have many scenes, most of which were in the second half. If she followed the conventional acting approach, the result presented can only be considered passable. Villainous roles were prone to being stereotyped, and for her, this drama served as her stepping stone in the entertainment industry, so she must strive to be more than just average. She watched classic films over and over again, trying to analyze the characters.

Just as she was deep in thought, Owen’s call interrupted her.

“Ma’am, Mr. Reed left a document at home and desperately needs it for the meeting, can you help bring it over?”

Why Liam being so forgetful recently? Isn’t he too young for that?

Celeste grumbled in her mind and asked, “Which document, where is it?”

“It’s on Mr. Reed’s desk, in a brown leather bag.”

Celeste opened the door and saw the leather bag right on his desk.

She took a photo and sent it to Owen, “This one?”

“Yes, that’s it. Please hurry, the meeting is about to start.”

Celeste rolled her eyes. “Got it.”

She quickly got ready, grabbed the bag and left the house.

When Liam arrived downstairs, there were already quite a few people gathered.

Martha was sitting outside the railing on the second floor, crying and complaining to the crowd. Some people took photos while others discussed.

Angel was the first to notice Liam and shouted, “Mr. Reed!”

The crowd immediately quieted down and made way for him.

Wesley had someone bring a chair for him to watch the scene unfold. He was now sitting there, sipping coffee.

Seeing Liam, he paused for a moment and smirked, “Bro, you finally showed up

Liam glanced at him, took a look around and spoke with a cold yet authoritative voice, “Everyone, back to your positions”

Just a few words made everyone hesitate to leave. Wesley chimed in, “Bro, Martha is an old employee of our company. If you don’t handle this decisively and efficiently, people will think our company uses power to pressure employees.”

Martha immediately added, “Don’t go anywhere! I am just the Reed family’s nanny, but I am also a Quantum employee. I’ve been dedicating myself to the Reed family for over a decade, but now they’re firing me. This is how they treat their old employees!”

There was an uproar downstairs.

Quantum had quite a few older employees. Over the years, the company had grown rapidly and brought in top talent, but there were only limited positions, and some people had to be let go. The older employees were all on edge, fearing they might be the next to be sacked.

After all, once you’ve reached middle age, no matter how experienced you are, it was hard to have an advantage in the workforce.

As Martha said this, everyone couldn’t help but think of their own situation. They had spent half their lives working hard for the company, only to face the possibility of being abandoned when they got old. People shew their sympathy, so those who were about to leave paused and stayed put.
