Chapter 861

Celeste didn’t stay there for too long. Many of the staff had families who would be worried if they returned home too late, so the second gathering ended not too long after

Celeste helped send her drunk colleagues back home. Javier asked in a daze, “How are you getting home yourself?”

Celeste thought it was nice of him to be caring about her when he himself was wasted.

She replied, Tm taking a cab home. It’s quite convenient.”

Javier said, “Don’t be late tomorrow.”

Celeste smiled.

After everyone had left, Celeste started to call a cab for herself.

Just as she pulled out her phone, a silver Land Rover stopped by the side of the road. The driver rolled down the window and asked, “Miss, are you the one who called for a cab?”

Celeste replied, “No, I haven’t called one yet.”

The driver took out his phone to contact his customer Celeste could hear the driver complaining

It seemed that the customer had canceled the booking, and the driver had made a wasted trip and started arguing with the customer.

After the driver complained and hung up the phone, he asked Celeste again, “Miss, where are you heading? How about I give you a lift?*

She looked up and asked, “Grandview Heights. Is that okay?”

“Get in.”

The car was filled with the smell of smoke, which Celeste didn’t like. She rolled down the window.

She took out her phone to check it for new messages. No news from Owen, and Liam still hadn’t responded.

Not long after the car started, the driver said, “Lady, I have to pick someone up ahead. He’s also going to Grandview Heights. You can split the fare with him later

Celeste frowned

She didn’t like sharing a ride with strangers. The driver should’ve asked her first

If she had known, she wouldn’t have been so eager to get in this car

Soon, the car stopped at an intersection. A man in all black with a mask on his face got in the car.

He didn’t sit in the passenger seat, but sat in the back with Celeste. Plus, the smell of smoke on him was even stronger than in the car. This made Celeste even more uncomfortable

She immediately told the driver, “Pull over. I’ll get off here. How much is it?”

The cab driver took a quick glance at her and said “Grandview Heights is just nearby, I’ll take you there”

“No need,” Celeste took out her phone and said, “I want to take a walk.”

The driver frowned and made eye contact with the man in the back. Just as Celeste was about to pay for the ride, he suddenly started the car

Celeste was thrown back by the inertia. Fear flashed in her eyes. She had just shouted “stop” when the man next to her suddenly covered her face with a cloth.

Celeste’s pupils shrank instantly. She started to struggle and tried to tear off the man’s mask

But soon she felt weak all over and her vision began to blur. She managed to tear off his mask, but she couldn’t see his face clearly

Celeste, full of fear of the unknown, finally fell unconscious

“How’s it going?” the driver asked.
