When Shangguan Ning got back home, she cleaned herself up as best as she could.
Her wounds were still fresh, especially the wound on the back of her head which hurt every now and then. Mu Qing had told her to ensure that it doesn’t get wet. So she had no choice but to dab herself in a careful way.
Guo Shuai had hit her so violently as if they were long time enemies, with massive hatred towards each other.
She had been living extremely carefully, but trouble still came and found her. But, there was no use retreating all the time. She should fight back when it was necessary.
She controlled her thought process and tried to look at the brighter side. Now she didn’t need to work any more, and could just rest at home.
She will take this opportunity to find another apartment and move out, otherwise Aunt and Cousin might come to trouble her soon again.
She would need to visit her café as well, in a few days. She had not been there in a month now, and she was not sure how the business was doing. She had hired someone else to run the place. She had purchased the store before she went abroad, so it had been attracting many old customers who kept the business lively.
It had always been her mother’s wish to run a cosy, romantic café which could provide a quiet place for people who became agitated easily. However, she hadn’t been able to make that wish come true, even till the end of her life. She had always been devoted to her husband and daughter throughout, and never asked for anything in return.
Whenever Shangguan Ning thought of her mother’s suicide, the hatred in her heart increased and tears fell out of her eyes.
But she knew that her mother didn’t like it when she cried. She liked it when she was happy.
Shangguai Ning decided to get back to her feet and find another job. She had a Doctor’s Degree from overseas, and she would find a way out for herself.
She had just clicked upon the recruitment website when her phone rang.
The screen showed that the caller was her Uncle.
She picked it up instantly.
Huang Lihan’s caring voice came through the phone. “Ning, this is Uncle. How have you been?”
“I am very well, Uncle. Don’t worry.” Shangguan Ning tried to sound calm. She didn’t want Huang Lihan to worry about her.
But what Huang Lihan said next made her realise that it was futile.
“I heard that you are not working in school any more?”
Huang Lihan was asking her about it in a tactful way. He knew that Shangguan Ning had been fired, but the school didn’t want to spell out the reason for it. Apparently, someone had suppressed the matter.
Shangguan Ning was not surprised. Uncle had always paid attention to her life’s events, silently. It was impossible that Uncle wouldn’t get to know about her being fired by school. It had simply been a matter of time before he did.
She replied with a non committal “hmm”.
She injected smile in her voice the next instant, trying to make him less worried. “It is alright. I also need some rest. Someone like your niece would certainly find a job soon enough.”
Huang Lihan was angry. “This is not right. I wouldn’t let them go scot free till the time they don’t give me a reason. Tell me, did you get misunderstood at the school? And what about Shangguan Zheng? Doesn’t he care about this issue as your father?!”
Bitterness arose in Shangguan Ning’s heart.
It would have been great if Shangguan Zheng didn’t care about a thing, so that she could make a big fuss about the incident and make those who framed her up, clarify the entire matter. But with him involved, she had silently ended up admitting to the accusation, though the rumor had been pressed down for the time being.
“I wasn’t misunderstood. Please don’t speak to the school, Uncle. Let bygones be bygones.” This incident had been dreadful for her. She desperately hoped that it would pass soon. She really didn’t want to think about that day anymore.
Huang Lihan sensed Shangguan Ning’s uneasiness. So he changed the topic immediately. “Well, I can find a new job for you. What about joining my company as the vice president? Your mother had a share at Family Huang’s Real Estate anyway.”
Shangguan Ning was surprised at these words. She shook her head in the phone. “No, no, Uncle! You have been doing pretty well at Family Huang’s Real Estate, and I don’t want to cause trouble for you. As for my mother’s share... please keep it safe for me. I will surely find a job. Don’t worry about me.”
Huang Liyan understood that Shangguan Ning wouldn’t want to work at Family Huang’s Real Estate company. She didn’t want to cause trouble for him. He wished that his wife, Lin Yu could have been be more tolerant about this child whom his sister had left behind. He would have kept his niece close to him and lived an easier, happier life.
He tried to convince her for a bit but Shangguan Ning firmly refused to work at his company.
“I won’t force you if you don’t want to do it. Let me look around and see if I can recommend you elsewhere. You don’t need to look for a job, I will help you. Just wait for my message.” The helpless Huang Lihan could do nothing but let her go to some other company.
Shangguan Ning was about to reject again when Uncle interrupted her in a serious tone. “Ning, I know it won’t be difficult for you to find a job, but please trust me, and give me a chance to take care of you. I regard you as my own daughter. Why must you stay so distant from me?”
Shangguan Ning was speechless.
Of course she trusted Uncle. She just didn’t want to cause him any trouble. She might really hurt him if she still turned him down this time.
She smiled and felt a sliver of warmth inside the heart. “It’s really nice to have an Uncle who cares so much about me. I don’t need to worry about anything. Okay, I will not look for a job and if I starve, you will have to support me.”
Her childish tone amused Huang Liyan. He instantly became happy. “No problem! I will support you completely. You can just relax, and get ready for the new job. You mustn’t complain when it comes!”
The two of them talked happily for a bit before they hung up.
Sitting in the spacious office at Family Huang’s Real Estate, Huang Liyan started to think about his niece’s job. He wanted to send her to a place where he was able to take care of her. His niece was beautiful, highly educated, and quite capable. He didn’t even bother considering the smaller companies. He knew enough people from big enterprises, yet few were trustworthy.
He thought for a moment and then it hit his brain.
He had had dinner with President Jing Zhongxiu of Jingsheng Enterprise earlier. The man had mentioned that he was going to hand over the power to his son so that he could retire and enjoy his life.
He had even met Jing Zhongxiu’s son, who was called Jing Yichen or something. He was an elegant and handsome man. He had praised the young man for superseding his father, at that time.
The only concern was that he was known to be distant and indifferent.
But the calmer a man was, the more successful he would become. And, these kind of people tended not to pick on others on purpose.
He would ask Jing Zhongxiu to pay some attention to Shangguan Ning. She should be a good fit there. At least she would not be fired.
At this thought, Huang Liyan instantly picked up the phone and called his old friend for dinner. He would convince the man, since it concerned his niece’s future.
