Chapter 187: Bethrod?!!
Chapter 187: Bethrod?!!
Blake savored the last morsel of the antelope meat, a subtle detail crossed his mind. The last time they had met by the oak tree, their conversation had been interrupted by a man in search of Nana. Despite Nana's instructions to hide behind the bushes, Blake couldn't help but overhear snippets of their conversation.
He remembered them mentioning something about a festival, and the curiosity lingered in his mind.
Setting down his clay plate, Blake cleared his throat, catching Nana's attention. "Hey, Nana," he began tentatively, "I couldn't help but overhear last time... about the festival you mentioned. What's it about?"
Nana's expression softened as she regarded Blake with a hint of surprise. "Ah, the festival," she replied, a nostalgic gleam in her eyes. "It's a celebration that our village holds every year, honoring our ancestors and the spirits of the land. It's a time for feasting, dancing, and storytelling."
Blake's interest piqued at her words, intrigued by the glimpse into Nana's culture. "That sounds fascinating," he remarked, genuine curiosity coloring his tone.
As Nana spoke of the festival, her eyes sparkled with reverence and pride. "The festival is a sacred tradition for our people," she explained to Blake. "It honors our sun god, who saved us from the blood suckers long ago."
Listening intently, Blake absorbed her words, intrigued by the depth of her faith. "So, the festival is a celebration of the sun god's protection," he mused, nodding in understanding.
Nana nodded eagerly, her enthusiasm palpable. "Exactly! Every year, our high priestess communicates with the sun and announces the date of the festival. It's a time of feasting and revelry, but also a time of reflection and gratitude for the sun's blessings."
Blake couldn't help but admire Nana's devotion to her beliefs, even if he didn't share them himself. "It sounds like a beautiful tradition," he remarked sincerely.
Nana smiled warmly at his words, appreciating his open-mindedness. "It truly is," she agreed. "The festival reminds us of the sun god's unwavering protection and the importance of light in our lives."
As they sat together beneath the shade of the oak tree, Blake couldn't help but reflect on Nana's words. While their beliefs may have differed, he found solace in the shared understanding that goodness transcended individual faiths. In the end, it was the values they upheld and the kindness they showed to one another that truly mattered.
"Is the story of the sun god somehow intertwined with the tale of Duncan Salvador and Artemis?" Blake inquired, curious about the connection between the two narratives.
Nana nodded thoughtfully, her eyes reflecting a deep understanding. "In a way, yes," she replied. "The story of Duncan Salvador and Artemis is deeply rooted in our history, just like the legend of the sun god."
As they finished their meal, Nana promised to share the rest of the story with Blake. He eagerly anticipated uncovering the ties between the ancient myth and the tale of the star-crossed lovers.
The remaining piece of meat left that none of them wanted again, Blake decided to offer it to scar. The entire time, Nana smiled watching Blake's cautious shaking hand as he handed the meat to scar who approached with apprehension as well.
It was obvious the animal still had its reservations about Blake.
Blake couldn't help but notice the wolf dog's wariness toward him. Nevertheless, he extended his hand, offering the meat to Scar. With cautious steps, Scar approached, eyeing Blake with uncertainty before finally accepting the offering.
Blake breathed a sigh of relief as Scar began to enjoy the meal. "He's not so bad after all," Blake remarked, a small smile playing on his lips.
Nana observed the interaction with amusement, a smile tugging at the corners of her mouth. "Scar can be a bit cautious around strangers," she explained, her tone affectionate as she watched her beloved companion.
As Scar finished his meal, Nana's pride in her pet was evident. "He's my loyal friend," she said, her voice filled with warmth and admiration for the wolf dog.
As they sat under the shade of the oak tree, Blake and Nana enjoyed the remnants of their meal. The conversation had flowed easily between them, with laughter and camaraderie filling the air. But Blake's curiosity got the best of him, prompting him to ask Nana about the man who had interrupted their previous meeting.
"So, was that man your brother or some relative? It seemed like everyone knows each other in your village," Blake inquired, his tone casual but genuinely curious. His guess was that it had to be a relative and given their numbers if was Moore than likely everyone knew each other in the village.
Nana's smile widened, and a faint blush graced her cheeks. Blake noticing this wondered what he had said to arouse such a reaction from her. She seemed utterly flustered and for the first time, Blake saw, for the lack of better words, a girly side of Nana.
She paused for a moment before responding, her voice soft and filled with a hint of shyness. "No, Blake, he's not my brother. He's actually... my man."
Blake's eyebrows shot up in surprise, his mind racing to process this unexpected revelation. "Your man? As in, your... partner?" he stammered, caught off guard by the unexpected news.
Nana nodded, her smile growing even brighter. "Yes, Kabib is my betrothed. We're to be married soon," she explained, her voice tinged with excitement and happiness.
Blake couldn't hide his astonishment. The thought of Nana being in a serious relationship had never crossed his mind. He had always seen her as a fierce and independent woman, capable of taking on the world on her own. The revelation left him feeling both surprised and intrigued.
Before he could gather his thoughts and respond, the sound of rustling bushes nearby caught their attention. Instantly, Scar, Nana's wolf dog, perked up, his ears pricking forward as he shifted into a defensive stance.
Sensing the sudden tension in the air, Blake turned his gaze towards the source of the noise, his senses on high alert. Someone was approaching, and judging by Scar's reaction, it wasn't a friendly visitor.
The anticipation hung thick in the air as Blake and Nana exchanged uncertain glances, bracing themselves for whatever—or whoever—was about to emerge from the bushes.
