Chapter 218: Winter tears
Chapter 218: Winter tears
With a resounding stomp, she sent shockwaves rippling through the ground, cracks spreading like spiderwebs in her wake. Damien tensed, bracing himself for what was to come, while Marlowe readied himself for the impending onslaught.
Suddenly, Dravena's hands erupted with a searing red energy, a blast of pure power hurtling towards them with unstoppable force. Damien and Marlowe barely had time to react before the blast engulfed them.
However, Dravena's eyes widened in disbelief as she scanned the area, unable to locate Damien and Marlowe amidst the aftermath of her devastating blast. Panic flickered in her gaze as she heard a faint panting behind her, prompting her to whirl around.
To her astonishment, both Damien and Marlowe stood behind her. Marlowe struggled to stand, blood staining his lips, while Damien wore a stunned expression, his gaze fixed on Marlowe. It was obvious whatever had happened was equally surprising to him as well.
"What in the heavens..." Dravena began, her voice tinged with disbelief.
Marlowe interrupted, his voice strained but determined. "We're still standing, Dravena. And we're not done yet."
Damien nodded in agreement, though he seemed shaken by the close call. "I moved us out of harm's way just in time," he explained, his voice betraying a hint of admiration for his comrade's quick thinking. "I used a secret Shelly technique, and the blast provided the perfect cover."
Marlowe grimaced, his expression pained as he leaned on Damien for support. "But I can't guarantee I'll be able to do it again," he admitted, his tone grave. "If you've got a plan, Damien, now's the time to share it. Because I'm not sure I can pull off that trick twice."
Damien's gaze hardened as he locked eyes with Dravena, determination burning in his eyes. Gritting his teeth, he turned to Marlowe, his voice low but resolute. "You pulled off a trick, Marlowe. Now it's my turn."
Marlowe nodded, understanding the gravity of the situation. "Do what you must, Damien," he replied, his tone supportive yet tinged with concern.
Damien took a deep breath, steeling himself for what was to come. "I've already used my trump card once before," he began, his voice steady despite the tension in the air. "But I'm going to have to push myself to use it again."
Dravena chuckled, her confidence unwavering. "Thinking of using the shining blizzard technique, Damien?" she taunted, her smirk evident in her voice. "It won't work. My armor will block all your attacks."
Dravena had studied all she could about every opposition she anticipated would come against her in her quest. In Damien's case, she knew already what he was capable of. After all, they had both being together romantically for a long period of time before separation. She knew what he was up to down to ..
Damien's chuckle echoed through the chamber, a glint of defiance in his eyes. "You shouldn't be so quick to guess my moves, Dravena," he retorted, his tone laced with determination. "Take a good look at your armor."
Dravena's brow furrowed in confusion at Damien's cryptic remark, but she glanced down at her armor nonetheless. Instantly, her expression shifted to one of bewilderment as she observed the unusual coloration spreading across its surface.
Dravena's eyes widened slightly as she noticed the crackling sound emanating from her armor and the unusual flashes of red dancing across its surface. It was a stark departure from its usual behavior, signaling something was amiss.
"Interesting," Damien remarked, his gaze fixed on Dravena's armor. "Seems like your armor is having a bit of trouble keeping up."
Dravena narrowed her eyes, a hint of uncertainty flickering across her features. "What do you mean?" she demanded, though there was a trace of apprehension in her voice.
"Your armor," Damien continued, his tone measured yet confident. "It's not as invincible as you think. I've done my homework, Dravena. I know its limitations."
Dravena's disdainful scoff belied a grudging respect as she regarded Damien. "Impressive," she admitted, her lips curving into a sardonic smile. "Your knowledge of my armor's limitations is commendable. However, even with its finite capabilities, I am more than capable of holding my ground."
Damien met her gaze with unwavering resolve. "Perhaps," he conceded, his voice laced with confidence. "But you underestimate our resourcefulness, Dravena. Rest assured, we have a few tricks up our sleeves that may surprise you."
With a fierce determination, Damien unleashed a devastating aura that swept across the cavern, causing every coffin to shake violently in their positions. His eyes blazed with a deep blue hue as he began to ascend, rising from the ground with an otherworldly presence.
The suffocating intensity of his aura filled the air, leaving Dravena momentarily speechless as she struggled to conceal her astonishment.
"You may think you know me well, Dravena," Damien's voice echoed with an icy edge, "but you've only seen the parts of me I allowed you to see. Now, I'll show you the depths of darkness I've borrowed from the very pits of hell."
"I like to call this one, Shining Blizzard: Winter Tears," Damien declared as he ascended, ice coalescing around his limbs and encasing his burnt, exposed chest. A chill wind whipped around him, causing Marlowe to step back and give Damien room to maneuver.
As a crown of ice formed atop his head and an icy gauntlet enveloped his arms, Damien wasted no time. With determination in his eyes, he lunged at Dravena, lifting her off her feet and driving her through the solid cave wall, hurtling into the open air.
Together, they soared upwards, ascending into the night sky.
As the intense battle raged on the ground, a sudden hush fell over the combatants as they noticed a brilliant blue object streaking through the sky above them. The air around them grew noticeably colder, and before long, delicate flakes of snow began to drift down from the heavens.
Amidst the falling snow, those who hailed from the Durello house recognized this display almost immediately.
"It's our lord. He is the one!" they exclaimed in awe and reverence, their voices echoing through the cavernous space.
