MY SUGAR MUMMY IS A BEAUTIFUL VAMPIRE

Chapter 237: The answer is Tessa

Chapter 237: The answer is Tessa

"So, did you happen to notice how the young lady tensed up?" Elena inquired, as she returned to the breakfast table where Blake was seated.

Blake shrugged nonchalantly. "I didn't really pay much attention," he replied, taking another bite of his food. "Where's she from, anyway?"

Tessa cleared her throat before responding, "She arrived on the island while you were unconscious, Blake."

Blake furrowed his brow in confusion. "And who exactly is she, then? Why is she here?"

Elena chuckled nervously, interjecting, "Oh, I must have forgotten to mention, there are several lodges scattered about the island."

Elena leaned in, her voice laced with casual charm. "You see, Blake, this island isn't just a holiday destination. It's also a business venture for us. A little slice of paradise that we manage together."

Her words hung in the air, but Blake remained stoic, his attention fixed on his breakfast. Elena continued, her tone light yet probing. "I'm surprised you haven't noticed the other structures around. Do you ever venture beyond the art cave during your outings?"

A faint chuckle escaped Blake's lips as he continued to eat, his demeanor unchanged. He offered no response to Elena's inquiry, his focus solely on his meal.

Elena, undeterred by Blake's lack of engagement, carried on with her explanation, her words flowing effortlessly.

Blake, however, merely nodded, his face still buried in his plate of food. But beneath the surface, a wave of disgust churned within him. Despite Elena's attempts to paint a rosy picture, he couldn't shake the feeling of being deceived. She was lying to his face, and the facade of civility only served to fuel his disdain.

As Elena continued to speak, her words fading into the background, Blake's mind raced with a sudden realization. If this island served as a vacation spot for others, it meant there had to be a way off it.

Without warning, he dropped his fork onto his plate, hastily wiping his mouth. "I'm done eating," he declared abruptly.

Elena, taken aback by his sudden change in demeanor, nodded in acquiescence. "Is everything alright, Blake? Where are you rushing off to?" she inquired.

Blake offered a casual shrug, a hint of excitement flickering in his eyes. "Just remembered I need to check on a small bird's nest I spotted in the cave the other day," he explained, his tone laced with urgency. "You understand, right? I've always had a soft spot for nature."

Elena's expression softened, a smile playing at the corners of her lips. "Of course, Blake. Take all the time you need. We'll be here when you get back," she reassured him.

With a brief nod of gratitude, Blake turned on his heel and made his way out of the house, his steps purposeful as he traversed the sandy beach.

Elena rose from her seat as Blake walked out the front door, her gaze following his figure as he disappeared onto the beach. The sense of unease lingered in the air, prickling at her senses like an unseen threat.

With a heavy sigh, she turned away, making her way to the elegant wine cabinet in the corner of the room. She retrieved a crystal glass and poured herself a generous serving of red wine, the rich aroma wafting through the air as she brought the glass to her lips.

"Something isn't right," she murmured to herself, her brows furrowing in concern. There was an undeniable shift in Blake's demeanor, a subtle but palpable change that left her on edge.

As she took a sip of wine, her thoughts raced, her gut instincts screaming warnings at her. There was a flicker of doubt in her mind, a nagging feeling that Blake was not the same man she had been grooming for their grand plans.

Her grip tightened around the stem of the wine glass, her knuckles turning white with tension. Anger simmered beneath the surface, a fiery rage threatening to consume her. If Blake dared to betray her, to deceive her in any way, he would face the full extent of her wrath.

But for now, she forced herself to remain composed, to bide her time until Drake returned from his assignment. There were still pieces of the puzzle missing, pieces that needed to fall into place before she could make her move.

As for Blake... Elena's lips curled into a sinister smile, her eyes gleaming with a dangerous glint. Blake would soon learn that crossing her was a grave mistake.

Blake trudged through the soft sand, his steps heavy with vexation. His brows were furrowed, lips set in a scowl as he muttered to himself, the words dripping with bitterness and resentment.

"Elena," he spat out the name like a curse, "deceitful demon." His voice carried an edge of contempt as he continued to berate her, his anger simmering just beneath the surface. For a master manipulator like herself, she sure wasn't prudent.

How could she be so blind to his true intentions? How could she not see through the facade he had carefully crafted?

With each step, his frustration grew, his thoughts swirling in a whirlwind of resentment and indignation. He ridiculed Elena's obliviousness, mocking her inability to see past his charade. He had never been one to harbor a particular interest in nature, yet here he was, supposedly off to check on a bird's nest.

Since when did he care about a bird's nest? He was never particularly interested in nature that much.

A bitter laugh escaped his lips as he recalled his college days, the memory of his stolen dog flickering briefly in his mind, that was the closest to an animal he had ever been. But the notion of him suddenly being enamored with nature was laughable, a facade Elena had crafted to fit her narrative.

But Blake was no pawn in Elena's game. He was determined to break free from her grasp, to defy her expectations and forge his own path. With each step, he vowed to surprise her, to prove that he was not the man she thought him to be.

As Blake trudged through the sand, his mind raced with thoughts of escape. He needed a plan, a way to break free from Elena's clutches and uncover the truth behind her deception.
