MY SUGAR MUMMY IS A BEAUTIFUL VAMPIRE

Chapter 348: One crucial strike

Chapter 348: One crucial strike

With the group regrouping, Blake and the others exchanged glances, their faces etched with concern and determination.

"That thing is a monster," Reggie panted, his shadow armor flickering slightly. "Our attacks barely seemed to faze it."

Randal nodded grimly. "It's not just powerful, it's smart too. That fire breath... I've never seen anything like it."

Blake wiped a trickle of blood from his chin, his eyes never leaving the dragon. "We need to find a way to neutralize that breath attack. It's making it nearly impossible to get close."

Dumphries, who had been silent until now, spoke up. "Perhaps I could get a clean strike with my sword if I had an opening. But the beast won't give me that chance easily."

Randal turned to the vampire blacksmith, his brow furrowed. "Not to be offensive, but how in the hell is a blade going to cut past those scales? They're harder than anything I've ever encountered."

A smirk played across Dumphries' face, a glint of pride in his eyes. "My boy, I'm a blacksmith - the best, for a reason. What good would I be if my blade couldn't do the one thing it was created for?"

The confidence in Dumphries' voice gave the others pause. Blake looked at the ancient vampire with newfound respect. "If you're sure your blade can penetrate those scales, then we need to focus on creating that opening for you."

"Easier said than done," Reggie muttered, eyeing the dragon warily. "But if we work together, we might just have a chance."

As they huddled closer, formulating a plan, the dragon's low growl reminded them that their time was limited. Whatever they were going to do, they needed to act fast.

Blake stepped forward, facing the beast head-on. 'Here goes nothing,' he thought, launching a series of blood bombs towards the dragon. The explosions barely seemed to register, only serving to enrage the creature further.

'Damn, those scales are tougher than I thought. Need to rethink my approach.'

The dragon reared back, preparing another fire breath. Blake's mind raced. 'A wall won't cut it this time. Gotta go for the dome.'

Instantly, a glowing red blood dome formed around him. The strain was immediate, sweat beading on his forehead. 'This is taking more out of me than I expected. Can't keep this up for long.'

Realizing the dragon might lose interest in this seemingly defensive stance, Blake began firing blood bullets from within the dome. The projectiles shot out at deafening speeds, peppering the dragon's scales at an incredible rate.

'Two hundred hits per second, and barely a scratch. If only I could concentrate the force into fewer, more powerful shots. But that would leave me too exposed.'

The dragon intensified its fire breath in response, the area becoming engulfed in flames and soot. Blake gritted his teeth, maintaining his assault while keeping the dome intact.

'The heat's incredible. If there was a way to use that against it... No, too risky. One slip and I'm toast.'

Through the haze, Blake caught glimpse of two shadow spots moving behind the dragon. Reggie and Randal emerged, right on cue.

'Good, they made it. But if that thing turns around...'

Blake increased the rate of his blood bullets, drawing more of his own blood to maintain the assault. 'This is draining me fast. We need to end this soon, or I won't have enough left for a finishing move.'

His eyes darted around, assessing the situation. 'If I could just find a weak spot in those scales. Wait, the eyes! But getting a clear shot while maintaining this dome...'

The dragon's roar shook the cavern, nearly breaking Blake's concentration. 'Focus! The others are counting on me. Just need to hold out a little longer...'

As the battle raged on, Blake's mind continued to race, analyzing every possibility, every potential weakness, all while pushing his abilities to their absolute limit.

As Blake maintained his relentless assault, Reggie and Randal crouched in the shadows, their voices hushed but urgent.

"We need to bind this beast somehow," Reggie whispered. "Give Dumphries a clean shot."

Randal nodded, his eyes fixed on the thrashing dragon. "Blake's doing his part. It's on us now to make sure this thing doesn't move until it's slain."

They exchanged a determined look, then sprang into action. Shadow energy coalesced around their hands as they began to weave a massive chain of darkness.

"Now!" Reggie shouted, and they launched the shadow chain towards the dragon, attempting to wrap it around its massive form.

Reggie and Randal locked eyes, a silent understanding passing between them. With a synchronized nod, they began their attempt to bind the dragon.

Darkness swirled around their outstretched hands, coalescing into thick, smoky tendrils. These shadowy strands intertwined, growing larger and more substantial by the second. Soon, a massive chain of pure darkness hung between them, its links pulsing with raw energy.

"On three," Reggie whispered. "One... two... three!"

They launched into action, their movements fluid and coordinated. Randal dashed to the left while Reggie went right, the shadow chain stretching between them. They circled the dragon at breakneck speed, leaving trails of darkness in their wake.

The chain wrapped around the dragon's legs first, coiling tightly around its massive thighs. Randal leapt high, guiding the chain across the beast's scaled back while Reggie ducked beneath its belly, completing the circuit.

They crisscrossed the chain over the dragon's chest, binding its wings tight against its body. With a final burst of speed, they encircled its long neck, pulling the ends of the chain taut.

For a moment, the cavern fell silent. The dragon stood immobilized, wrapped in layers of shadow bindings. Reggie and Randal held the chains back, panting heavily, hoping against hope that their efforts would be enough.

But their triumph was short-lived. The dragon's muscles bulged against the shadowy restraints. A low growl rumbled through its chest, growing in intensity. Suddenly, with a deafening roar, the beast flexed its entire body.

The shadow chain strained, dark energy crackling along its length. For a split second, it seemed to hold. Then, like a dam breaking, the chain shattered into wisps of darkness that quickly dissipated into the air.

Reggie and Randal stumbled backward, the backlash of their broken construct hitting them like a physical blow.

"Damn it!" Randal cursed. "We need something stronger!" They exchanged grim looks, knowing they'd need a far more powerful technique to restrain this monstrous foe.

Reggie's eyes narrowed, a dangerous idea forming. "Shadow breach. All limbs. It's risky, but it might work."

Without hesitation, they began their second attempt. Dark portals opened beneath each of the dragon's limbs, slowly pulling them down. The strain was immediate and intense, forcing both brothers to dispel their shadow armor to channel every ounce of their power into the breaches.

"It's... working!" Randal grunted, sweat pouring down his face.

Reggie could barely speak, his entire body trembling with the effort. The dragon thrashed and roared, but slowly, inexorably, its limbs sank into the shadow breaches.

Meanwhile, Blake continued his barrage, blood bullets flying at an even more frenzied pace. His vision was starting to blur, but he pushed through the exhaustion. 'Just a little longer,' he thought, noticing the dragon's movements becoming more restricted.

High above, Dumphries clung to the cave wall, his sword glinting in the chaotic light of the battle. His eyes were fixed on the dragon, waiting for the perfect moment to strike.

The cavern shook with the dragon's fury as it fought against the shadow breaches. Reggie and Randal were on their knees now, every fiber of their being focused on maintaining the hold.

"Dumphries!" Blake shouted, his voice hoarse. "Whatever you're going to do, do it now! We can't hold this forever!"

The vampire blacksmith tensed, his blade humming with latent power. As the dragon's head reared back for another breath attack, Dumphries saw his opening. With preternatural speed, he launched himself from the wall, his sword aimed at a spot just behind the dragon's jaw where the scales seemed to overlap.

Time seemed to slow as Dumphries descended, the fate of their entire mission hanging on this single, crucial strike.
