Chapter 76: Tom Meets Sanji (2)
“Was he the one?” Sanji kept maintaining his gaze on Tom, but I knew he was asking at me.
This time I had no way to hide it anymore. Tom was standing in front of him. His every gesture was probably understood by Sanji. Lying to him would only make things more complicated. But, my voice was caught in my throat, leaving me no other choice but to shrug my shoulders in hesitance.
The frown in his face deepened. Did he treat Tom as an evil ghost?
“Who is he?” This time, it was Tom. He didn’t move his eyes away from Sanji, only asking me in a serious tone.
“He is–”
“Sanjaya, her fiancè.” Sanji cut my answer, successfully made me glare at him. His expression was calm, as if me being his fiancee was not something new -okay, fine, I know I was engaged to him ever since I was a child, but still... -and he had been waiting for this moment to say it.
I bet he didn’t know the effect it would have on Tom after he said that. But, I did.
.....
I watched as Tom’s eyes grew wide in shock. His transparent body swayed a little and a look of hurt flashed in his eyes. Slowly he turned his head to me, breaking his eye contact with Sanji.
“I just knew about it not too long ago, too.” Without needing to be asked, I defended myself.
“Just...just how long is not too long ago?” His voice was full of grievance. Was it so easy to sway this man? Just a mere sentence could hurt him? He didn’t even want to hear my explanation!
“What does it have to do with you?” Another source of my headache spoke with hint of displeasure in his voice. “Whether she is my fiancee or not, you don’t have to know it.” He sounded cold, coupled with the fact that the night wind was blowing lightly, I felt the temperature dropped.
His last sentence made Tom turned his head towards him again and they both locked in a staring match, only this time it was more intense.
As the spectator, I could only feel the corner of eyes twitched as my hands were itched to beat these two men to behave themselves. Fortunately there was no one around except us, but who would know what happened after that?
As I watched these two men -one human, one ghost -were involved in a strange eyes fight, I failed to notice the appearance of another entity behind my back. A familiar smell assaulted my sense as I frowned in disgust.
Why would the rotten smell get stronger?
Before I could turn myself to find the source, a flash of black shadow shot above my head towards my dorm, along with the familiar sound that could make one’s hair stood. It flew right in the middle of these two men, but somehow its creepy laugh turned into a shrill scream where it stopped abruptly and made a big U-turn before it... escaped?
No, it only looked like it escaped from something, but there was no reason for it to escape. From its shrill cry, I detected fear.
What kind of creature could frighten these entities?
Before my confusion got the answer, another entity came, but this time, it didn’t run away like the one before. Instead, it went around the roof, totally ignoring us below.
Then, another one came.
Another one...
Another one...
Another one...
In less than two minutes, there were more than ten of them hovering on the roof of my dorm. It was my first time seeing them in a group. What was the reason exactly?
The good thing was their arrival made Tom and Sanji stopped staring at each other. I was just about to joke with them, asking them what they were doing staring at each other so hotly when there was a girl between them, but Sanji cut me off.
“Someone is pregnant here.” Sanji said while looking at them. I looked at him in surprise. How did he know?
“Or someone is aborting her baby.” Tom frowned. His entire being emitted cold aura. Who would be happy if his/her own home was used to do something so irresponsible and dirty like that? I’m not talking about being pregnant, of course.
While I was watching and thinking, my eyes caught one familiar figure among those ugly faces on the roof.
“Oh, it’s Kunti!”
As soon as those words came out from my mouth, I was stunned when all of them turned to look at me in unison.
Shoot! I forgot all of them are Kunti!
Letting out hollow laugh, I took a step back. All of them looked scary, not even the mischievous Kunti whom I thought I’d got used in seeing her. There was no traces of her being playful. It was like she was blinded by something powerful enough to make her not able to recognize me. The way she looked at me was like the way she looked at her enemy or rival, as if I wanted to steal her food.
“Ah, I...” I stuttered, not knowing what to say.
Before I could think of something to say, those Kuntis let out shrill cries and shot towards me with all their hatred being directed at me.
What is going on exactly?!
