“Okay!” the kids chorused in unison.

The living room fell into silence as the kids stopped chattering among themselves, fully immersed in their drawing tasks.

Why didn't I think of this? It's no wonder Grandpa chose Chen as his heir. He's not only capable of managing the business but also handling the kids so effortlessly. I was struggling to control them, and even my attempt with the Maths Olympiad questions failed. I should've asked them to draw instead! What a fool I was for not coming up with this idea earlier.

Nan Xing entered the study and gave Nan Chen a thumbs up while the latter was engrossed in reading a document. “Chen, that was fantastic! I'm truly impressed!”

Nan Chen didn't bother looking up as he retorted, “You're not adept at looking after the kids. Why did you agree to do it?”

Nan Xing hastily explained, “It was Ning Ran who assigned me the task. I didn't dare refuse!”

Nan Chen snorted out loud. “It was Lu Jingyuan who told you to take care of the kids, right?”

Nan Xing felt a bit embarrassed as Nan Chen had exposed him without hesitation.

“Yes, it was Lu Jingyuan who made the call, but I only agreed because of Ning Ran—”

Nan Chen interjected, “How are things between you and Lu Jingyuan?”

“What do you mean? We're just ordinary friends.”

“Ordinary friends? You brought her all the way from the capital and arranged a job for her here. You wake up early every morning to take her kids to kindergarten. Is that how you treat an ordinary friend?

You may be Dabao and Erbao's uncle, but I don't recall you taking them to kindergarten as often as you do for her.”

Nan Xing was speechless.

“Don't say that, Chen. I don't take Dabao and Erbao to kindergarten because you and Ning Ran are taking care of them. Lu Jingyuan is alone in Flower City, and she's a single mother. Nan Chen let out an icy snort but didn't reply to that.

Nan Xing jumped to his feet. “Who told you that? Was it Ning Ran? She may be kind, but why is she spreading rumors? The truth is, it was Lu Jingyuan who pursued me, but I turned her down. That's what really happened!”

“Really? Why didn't you say yes?” Nan Chen inquired.

“She's not good enough, that's why,” came Nan Xing's arrogant answer.

“Ms. Lu might be new to the company, but she has earned the respect of all the higher-ups in the business division. She's professional and adept at management. If she had been here longer, I would have promoted her to lead the business division. Instead of criticizing her without concrete reasons, you should learn from her and recognize her capabilities.”

Nan Chen was well-informed about Lu Jingyuan's situation. As she was Ning Ran's friend, he had asked Jiang Zhe to keep tabs on her progress in the company.

When Lu Jingyuan first joined, he was concerned that people would assume she got the job through her connections.

Nan Chen set aside the document he was holding. “I wasn't praising her without reason. The truth is, she is genuinely talented, and you're not at her level. You spend too much time socializing, which may increase your connections, but it leaves little time for learning. Nan Chen frowned and responded, “Aren't you experienced in pursuing girls? You used to teach me how to court Ning Ran, didn't you?”

Nan Chen asked, “Does that mean you tried to pursue Lu Jingyuan using many tricks but none of them worked?”

Nan Xing was taken aback. Why did I slip up?

“Oh, that's not it. I said that everything is hypothetical!” he replied, looking troubled.

“Fine, since it's just hypothetical, there's no point wasting time with you. Leave now so I can get back to work!” Nan Chen gave a dismissive wave.

Nan Xing panicked. “Please, don't kick me out. Let's continue the conversation. Just pretend that I'm courting Lu Jingyuan, okay?”
