Chapter 796: Kill yourself to become a benevolent person
Buddha Mountain, inside Cuiyun Palace.
Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva, seated on the lotus stone platform, clasped his hands together and chanted, “Amitabha.”
At his feet, the divine beast Di Ting stood upright, baring its teeth and revealing a fierce countenance.
Not far in front of them, a figure was shrouded in a Netherworld Qi, and they could not see its true appearance. The aura emanating from its body was extremely sinister, just like those strange immortal monsters.
A hoarse voice emanated from the darkness, “This place has been sealed by the Ten Thousand Evil Formation that I have set up with the thousands of dead souls in the Yellow Spring River. Your Buddhist and Dao techniques are ineffective here. Why don’t you just surrender?”
Di Ting roared in response, and golden light manifested from its mouth, shooting towards the dark figure.
Although the attack was powerful, the dark figure simply waved its hand, conjuring a giant hand made of condensed flesh in the void, effortlessly intercepting the golden light.
“You’ve truly turned against us,” Di Ting growled.
“One who knows the times is a wise man,” the dark figure replied coldly, then turned back to Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva and said, “When you came to this realm and took your vows, swearing not to become a Buddha until hell was empty. In fact, our goals were actually the same.”
“When the three realms reopen and all things return to nothingness, the dead souls in this Netherworld will naturally cease to exist. Now, you have an opportunity before you. Open the golden bowl seal and release the Heavenly Soul!”Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva remained silent, his eyes downcast, murmuring Buddhist chants.
This outcome was obviously within the dark figure’s expectations, and it sneered, “I know you have the Vajra Protection ability to protect your life. Even if I cannot take your life without using Buddhist and Dao techniques, I am fully prepared since I came here.”
With those words, the dark figure gestured with its right hand, conjuring a dark green light that gathered countless struggling and wailing souls within it.
Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva opened his eyes with a solemn expression.
“It is said that Bodhisattvas are compassionate. If I were to obliterate these souls from the Yellow Springs in front of you, I wonder how you would feel? If you wish for me to release these souls, I can do so, but you must open the golden bowl seal and release the Heavenly Soul!”
Back then, if it weren’t for Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva relying on the foundation of his own Buddha Dharma and harnessing the power of the Great Vow, he might not have been able to confine him within the golden bowl.
Releasing the Heavenly Soul would lead to unimaginable consequences.
However, with countless lost souls before him, Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva could not turn a blind eye.
After all, delivering these lost souls was the very mission for which he came to this Netherworld.
“I don’t have much time for you to consider,” the shadow threatened, Netherworld Qi surging in his hand, the wails of the lost souls becoming increasingly piercing.
Seeing this, Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva lowered his gaze, spreading his hands, and the Buddhist seals manifested around him.
A golden light shot out from his body, soaring into the sky.
The plan encountered an unexpected situation. The shadow couldn’t help but exclaim, “Impossible! How could you unleash such powerful Buddhist techniques under the seal of the Ten Thousand Evil Formation?”
However, his surprise lasted only a moment as the shadow seemed to realize something, his tone turning cold. “I see now. You intend to sacrifice yourself for this? Is it really worth sacrificing one’s own path for the sake of these souls who are almost impossible to be saved?”
Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva smiled faintly. “A benefactor once taught me a phrase.”
“What phrase?” the shadow inquired curiously.
“If I don’t enter hell, who will?”
With those words, the center of Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva’s brow cracked open and a dazzling golden light enveloped the entire Buddha Mountain.
Suddenly, the shadow noticed that the lost souls in the Yellow Springs were no longer under control. They surged out of the dim green light, rushing towards Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva and then merging into his body.
Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva was using himself as a vessel to contain these lost souls, spending hundreds, thousands, or even tens of thousands of years to dissolve the anger and resentment within them, until the laws of the Netherworld were perfected again, allowing the lost souls to enter the cycle of reincarnation and be reborn.
“I apologize, I have caused you inconvenience,” Bodhisattva murmured as his body gradually petrified.
This was the price.
Di Ting shook his head, and lay down next to the Bodhisattva. Its body was slowly turning to stone like Ksitigarbha.
It is a spiritual beast that was enlightened by listening to the Dharma of Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva. It can be said that it rose and fell with Ksitigarbha.
“Absurd!” the shadow roared angrily. This was not the outcome he desired, and naturally, he could not accept it!
With a wave of his right hand, Netherworld Qi surged, forming a giant hand made of flesh and blood that slammed towards the petrified Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva.
However, just as the two were about to make contact, a golden light, like a sharp arrow, pierced through the giant hand from the center of the stone Buddha’s brow.
The shadow let out a heart-wrenching scream but dared not stay in place. Because after the arrow pierced through the giant hand, its momentum undiminished, it struck directly towards his chest.
Swish!
The shadow vanished into the void, fleeing from Buddha Mountain.
Qin Feng and the others saw only a golden light chasing after a mass of Black Qi.
And behind that Black Qi there was a huge arm made of flesh and blood!
“What is that?!” Tubo exclaimed in shock.
Zhao Wenhao frowned, noticing the blood hole in the center of the giant hand, and the lingering Buddha’s light.
Meng Shuang’s expression was grim. “There have been people in the Netherworld who have defected to external enemies, possessing strange powers that can transform their own flesh and blood into monstrous forms, unleashing unimaginable power.”
In other words, this shadow was the same!
Just as Zhao Wenhao and Meng Shuang were speculating about the identity of the shadow, Qin Feng, who was in mid-air, landed back beside them.
Before they could even ask if he had found the heart of the formation, Qin Feng hurriedly said, “Quick, step back, this mountain is about to collapse.”
As soon as he finished speaking, a loud rumble echoed in their ears.
The Cuiyun Palace crumbled, and golden light scattered like petals, causing Buddha Mountain to collapse as well.
And at the center where the golden light converged, Qin Feng and the others also saw the petrified Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva and Di Ting!
“How could this be?” Meng Shuang’s face was filled with disbelief.
She wanted to approach and check, but Zhao Wenhao held out his hand to stop her.
“Why are you stopping me?” Meng Shuang asked.
“The commotion here is too great, it will undoubtedly attract the attention of others. Take the intruder and leave this place quickly to avoid being discovered,” Zhao Wenhao explained.
This caught the group off guard. Qin Feng asked, “You’re not going to arrest me?”
“Isn’t the purpose of your visit here to recruit me?” Zhao Wenhao replied calmly.
Meng Shuang on the side asked: “So, you agree?”
“Now is not the time to talk about it. We’ll discuss the details later.”
While speaking, Zhao Wenhao clearly sensed something, and his eyes suddenly opened. Without saying a word, he opened his right palm and pushed forward violently. The void trembled, and Qin Feng and the others flew out like kites with broken strings, disappearing instantly.
Just moments later, a figure landed beside Zhao Wenhao and spoke, “How come you’re here?”
The newcomer was Shentu.
