Mythos Of Narcissus: Reborn As An NPC In A Horror VRMMO

Chapter 46: Mysterious Divinator

Chapter 46: Mysterious Divinator

"In a normal and civilized fashion, Lupina and I splurged some of our bloodies for food and alcohol, 6 hours before the dusk arrived," Verina started her tale.

"I see, so it is a drunkard-to-drunkard communication."

"Despite our physical constitution, we can drink barrels of ales and mead without passing out."

"I don't see that as useful information."

"In our casual two-person party, we overheard a spicy discussion about a certain, surprisingly unknown to us but famous to others—'Divinator' that arrived into the citadel a few hours ago.

"It is said that by paying a mere 5 C-tier bloodies to that Divinator, we can get our fate checked and guided to a very auspicious encounter."

Interesting.

The infodump didn't tell me anything about the existence of Divinator, so I didn't really know much nuance outside what the occupation name implies.

Regardless, it was easy to read how all of this goes.

"Is a Divinator that rare?"

"Very rare."

"Are what they are doing counted as the extension of ohrtending?"

"Who knows. Some Theotech can let you see the future, and all of that crazy divination stuff, so it's not always because of an ohrtending."

Looked like I should put 'Theotech Hunt' on my to-do list.

"Continuing the story—so the two of you decided to see what this rumor was all about."

"Obviously, we were quite well-off in terms of coins back then, so wasting a couple of C-tier bloodies won't hurt." Her eyes sparkled when she said that, as if she was proud of the fact that they weren't this poor and homeless before the robbery incident. "So while in a drunken state, we scoured the citadel in search of this special Divinator."

"I assume that you met this Divinator."

"Yep, but a couple of Ordeals later."

Looked like manhunting while in a drunken state didn't help them that much.

Verina then continued, "Just as the rumor said, the Divinator appeared to be capable of all that amazing stuff. We didn't believe her at first, but after somehow magically reading our background and personality like a professional stalker without the creepiness, we deemed that this rumor is legitimate."

"... That sounds familiar."

"True," Verina was put in a deep thought. "Now that I remembered it, it feels similar to how you somehow got our name on the first try, while also acting like you have seen a good chunk of our life beforehand, Narcy."

Could this Divinator and Narcissus be somewhat related?

There were so many questions right off the bat, but I wanted to see how this played out for now.

"So, how does this divination session go?"

"I forgot the complex rambling that the Divinator spouted back then, but she basically told the two of us to head southwest from Torie Citadel." Despite not being able to convey any kind of facial expression there were a lot of emotions that were brewing in her voice.

"That Divinator promised us a future of pearly luck and equal challenge, while also promising a destined encounter with an existence of gold and primordial rebirth.

"Seeing how we didn't have any task or mission ahead of us, we took this divination seriously and prepared a duo adventure to look for this fate.

"We don't know the exact location of this so-called encounter, so we just traveled for days as we stumbled upon caravans and bastions until no major civilizations were found.

"And then we got robbed in broad daylight. Lupina ate something that she carelessly foraged, and then we met you."

At this point, if what Verina said about this whole divination was true, the precision of the divination was a little bit scary.

"So, you believe that I'm the aforementioned destined encounter she talked about?"

"What else?" Verina tilted her head. "Your appearance of gold matches the description. You're an eccentric fairy with a mysterious past and ability to somewhat foresee things and move her hands at the speed of sound.

"Not only that you probably foresaw our arrival, you even went to the extent of trying to build a proper bastion with all sorts of defensive measures. At that moment, I kinda knew that the two of us were a deadweight to you, since you could just survive all of those Ordeals alone in a humble wooden cabin.

"And after going through an Ordeal with you, I'm fully convinced that you're stressed as you took care of us under your wings and chain of command."

Well… more like it was my first time preparing for an Ordeal as a whole.

Not to mention, I would most definitely be sure that I would die alone and pitiful if neither of you stumbled upon me to give me certain insight about how to deal with the Ordeal.

I won't tell her that, however, since it would break the illusion that I was an ancient and mysterious fairy that was promised in her divination encounter.

"So, what is your opinion of me now?" I asked.

"I want to bear your child," Verina said with her usual poker-face. "Lupina would probably think the same."

"I don't even have the right instrument to fulfill that."

"We will think of it somehow. Carcosa is filled with everything that is beyond your imagination, after all."

The first thing I wanted to do was definitely to fix those legs of yours.

Now that I think about it, I was quite lucky that both Verina and Lupina were female.

Tahlia was an anomaly, as he appeared to be unaffected by my psionic charisma—but if somehow the people that the Divinator sent to me were two dudes in their thirties, it might be very uncomfortable with two thirsty men wanting me to bear their child.

Even though I'm strong enough to prevent an assault attempt, dealing with them might be rather traumatizing since I was formerly a man before I was forced into this body and face.

Speaking of the Divinator…

"Say, do you happen to catch the name of this Divinator that sent both of you to me?"

Verina nodded. "She told us on our first meeting. Do you wanna know her name?"

"... Don't tell me that you want me to do something before giving me the name."

"You looked very interested, and it looks like a great opportunity that I can capitalize."

I raised my torso, gazing at this kilnalan with half-lidded eyes. "I can just threaten you to give me the answer, you know?"

"I doubt that," Verina said with a smug intonation in her voice. "You're too kind to actually threaten me."

Well, more like your value was too high for me to actually do anything harmful.

I could just put her on a wheelchair and throw her off a cliff, but that would be too extreme since there was a great chance that should double-down and actually wait until something was done to her.

Actually, she might even be willing to be put into harm if I asked her directly.

Now that I thought about.

I might as well capitalize on that.

"... Say, Verina, how about I set an agreement beyond a mere exchange of the Divinator's name and your perversion."

"Oho, how spicy are we talking about?" she said as she pushed her body to sit on the bed.

With eyebrows raised, I put on a promiscuous smug as I slowly traced my own curve with my fingers. "You're about to find out~"

Not even a second after, Verina started to have a nosebleed as her exhaust horn expelled hot fumes into the air. "I'm not used to this assertive side of you, Narcissus."

I put on a confident smile below my shrinked gaze, before placing my fingers on her high-temperature body. "This is what you wanted, no~?"

"..."

Verina passed out.

"... I guess this is too raunchy for her."

Now that I was too curious about the Divinator's name, I no longer felt the urge to sleep.

However, I still want to have some form of relaxation.

"I need to take a bath."

It was probably the same thing for Verina, since she produced more sweat the higher her body temperature rose.

This location used to possess an ease of access to free flowing water not far on the ease, but the water path had been desiccated as the aftermath of the vicious clash between the two Qliphoth Objects within the Ordeal of the Midnight.

Because of that, we needed to take a 10 minute walk to reach the streaming current.

"Might as well clean this kilnalan while I'm on it."

This bastion's location was so far from any viable civilization, it made me believe that there was nothing but animals and nature even if I were to travel for days.

Then again, Lupina and Verina got robbed before meeting me, so there might be some people with adventurous intent coming here from time to time.

"She is still unconscious, huh."

After I reached the untouched part of the river with Verina on my piggyback, I began my cleaning session.

The water might not be as clean as modern tap water, but it was so clear of impurity that it might as well be a placebo effect of why I'm having so much comfort cleaning off the bits of dirt and debris from my body.

I didn't really care about cleaning this ragged white chiton, since I was about to craft a new set of clothing later.

At the same time, I'm also taking care of Verina's sweaty body, cleaning the severed wounds on her legs and her body as a whole.

"Huah!" Verina suddenly awoke in the middle of the bathing session. "I dreamed of being smothered by a slutty version of Narcy, and it is one of the best dreams that I have in my life."

She then started to notice what was happening.

"Feel a bit better?"

She passed out again.

Her temperature was enough to make the surrounding water warm, and her exhaust horns had been producing hot fumes nonstop.

"... She will get dehydrated at this point."

So slapped her again and again until she was awake.

"Huah!" Her eyes were wide open as she appeared to be gasping for air. "I dreamed of being bathed by a motherly version of Narcy, and it is one of the best dreams that I have in my life."

She then started to judge her surroundings once again.

"If you pass out again, I will leave your unconscious body on the river for wild animals to nibble at."

"Sorry, ma'am."

"What with the honorifics."

"Sorry, mommy."

"That is worse than the honorific."

It didn't take long until she got used to the stimulation.

After I felt that my body was shiny and refreshed, I prepared our departure to go back to our bastion.

Verina was speechless as I helped her wear her robe and everything.

After that, it was back to walking and piggybacking this kilnalan back to our humble abode.

"Thank you for taking care of me," Verina uttered sheepishly. "I'll think of a way to mitigate my lack of mobility."

"I'm sure you will."

"As for the name of the Divinator…"

"Oh, I don't need to do anything for that?"

"You already did more things than I asked for."

"Huh."

I guess taking care of her hygiene while she was unconscious was also counted to her time-to-time debauched shenanigan.

"I won't repeat the name of this Divinator after I say it once."

"Sure, blast it off."

"The Divinator's name is Loki."
