Chapter 2087: Living and Selfishness

Lu Yun: ……

He looked quizzically at the guy who called himself the Light Deity.

Tomb raiding?

This world was turning out to be more unreal than any movie script. Tomb raiding was his bread and butter. He loved it and was naturally happy to help. However, he could see through any tomb with a quick glance these days given his current cultivation level—even that of a nihil powerhouse. There were no challenges whatsoever, so it’d been a very long time since he explored one.

Having reached perfection, the Spectral Eye could pierce through any tomb and identify the background of the tomb owner.

Tomb raiding…

What a term that was so far removed from him! His sect was extremely active in the World of Immortals and the various realms. While Lu Yun didn’t personally raid tombs anymore, his sect’s legacy had been perpetuated and thrived.

Who would’ve thought that someone in the Divine Temple of Nothing would tell him that there was a tomb from reality waiting to be explored?

Excitement crept up in Lu Yun’s heart and though he wanted to decline, the words refused to come out of his mouth.

“Formula dao tells me that the way to improve my strength lies within the divine temple, but it might not be the temple itself,” he murmured. “Can it be the tomb?”

“Yes! It’s got to be that tomb!” The Light Deity’s eyes shone so bright that it was as if they were two light bulbs. “That tomb is our chance to survive and you want to grow stronger, so come explore it with us!” He capered with delight.

Lu Yun rubbed his forehead, beginning to think that this guy was a little weird. In fact, the entire Divine Temple of Nothing was weird. Was this the true mastermind behind the scenes and the enemy they’d been opposing all along?”

It seemed a little… ludicrous.

Putting aside the Fire God and others, this Light Deity fellow seemed completely nuts. He spoke garbled nonsense and an unusual fervor gleamed out of his eyes. But there was no question that he was a powerhouse, the kind that could crush Lu Yun to death with a finger.

He wouldn’t even have time to deploy the Dragonspike Litany before the Light Deity killed him. And yet, Lu Yun felt a complete absence of danger, particularly from the man’s emotions. There was only a plea for help.

“Calm down first and tell me more about the tomb.” Lu Yun sat down cross-legged, opening himself up to something that he hadn’t said to the temples of the five elements. He hadn’t been willing to help them against the other gods of the Divine Temple of Nothing because he was here to grow stronger, not to get involved in random nonsense.

Repeated calculations told him that there was indeed some value in the Light Deity’s words. There was a tomb here, one from the reality outside the nothing. It was the fortuitous opportunity he searched for that would help him grow stronger.

“The Fire God brought me here, so why didn’t she tell me about this tomb?” he asked the Light Deity.

“Because she doesn’t know about it.” The man calmed down and sat down next to Lu Yun, quite concerned that the young man wouldn’t help him. “The Fire God and her fire envoys are the only ones who can leave the Divine Temple of Nothing.

“If she learns about it, then God, Che, and their people will know about it. They’ll interfere with the tomb.”

“Is that bad?” Lu Yun found it odd. Since the Light God Temple was convinced the tomb held the way to end the great destruction, why was it bad for everyone to explore it together?

“Bad,” the Light Deity shook his head. “We are traitors to God and Che. The only possible treatment of traitors is death.

“When the four divine temples of the Worlds, Chaos, Hongmeng, and Nothing were first built, God used merciless tactics to suppress all life. He killed countless powerhouses before he became the true god.

“We’ll be the first to die if he recovers,” the Light Deity said solemnly. “We do this because we want to live, not out of a sense of responsibility for creation. It would be meaningless to us if the great destruction was terminated, but we are dead.”

His words were very selfish, yet quite rational. They’d fended off the great destruction for countless eons not for the good of all, but because they themselves didn’t want to die. In contrast, while those of the five elements also wished to live, they took pains to save those who dwelled among the existences that’d been destroyed.

Theirs was a more ordinary selfishness, but who wasn’t selfish when it came to personal survival?

God, the Dao King, and mistress just wanted to leave this place. What did the local inhabitants have to do with them?

God was still gravely injured and the protector of immortal dao; he was very far off from returning to peak condition. Despite that, the Divine Temple of Nothing couldn’t kill him. At least, the Fire God didn’t wish to kill him.

Although the other gods couldn’t leave the divine temple, they could use a variety of methods to affect the existence within the nothing—such as the three hundred and sixty-five demon god guards.

The endless guards had been whittled down to three hundred and sixty-five, but the gods could also utilize a variety of curses and replicas. They couldn’t kill God or threaten the Dao King and the mistress, but they could create unlimited trouble and obstacles.

You guys won’t have an easy life either if we’re unhappy!

But Lu Yun was an exception. Although he was in the same camp as the mistress and God, he’d set foot on his own path and didn’t belong to either faction. Of this, the Divine Temple of Nothing saw clearly, so the Light Deity came as soon as they sensed Lu Yun’s arrival.

“Uh huh,” Lu Yun nodded. “So you still want to kill God?”

“Everything else can be discussed so long as we terminate the great destruction.” The Light Deity first nodded, then shook his head.

Their rebellion had been successful, but it resulted in God confining them to the divine temple for all of eternity. They would regain freedom only when they killed God or when God left the nothing.

When the great destruction was no longer a possibility, the mistress and Dao King would leave with God. There would be no need to kill God then. However, the divine temple’s current plan was to kill all three foreigners, so further changes might come into play.

“Then let’s talk about that tomb?” Lu Yun remained rational and prudent, despite inwardly stirring with impatience. “Since it’s fallen into the nothing, is there no path to reality inside it?”

“There is,” the other answered frankly. “But it’s a dead path. Someone set foot on it once and turned to dust after taking three steps, returning to the nothing.”

“Are you certain that there is a way to end the great destruction within the tomb?” Lu Yun asked with bafflement.

“No… but there’s always hope!” Enthusiasm sparkled out of the Light Deity’s eyes again.
