Chapter 2195.1: Nineheavens Brahman Fire
Gui Xie’s attacker was a powerhouse of latter combination level. A snowy flying sword circled around him as he stood in the air, coolly regarding Lu Yun next to Gui Xie.
Kong Mengqian blinked, not having anticipated that her master, a nascent soul cultivator, would rush in front of a combination powerhouse. She swiftly understood that the one under attack should be Lu Yun’s friend, so she raised a ray of black sword light and followed close behind the young man.
Gui Xie was in poor shape as horrific wounds crisscrossed his body. He’d been almost beaten to pieces, and the worst of his injuries was a gash that ran from right shoulder to waist. It nearly bisected the man.
Lu Yun drew close to Gui Xie and shoved a pill into the man’s mouth when he saw that the powerhouse in the sky didn’t react.
The man’s wounds slowly took a turn for the better.
“Are, are you Sir Lu?” Gui Xie asked with bafflement when he opened his eyes and saw Lu Yun.
A dense current of goodwill surged from him into the Seal of the Multitude. Lu Yun’s lips curved upward when he sensed the rush.
“What’s going on? Why is he chasing you? Why are you being attacked by a combination powerhouse at your level?” Lu Yun could see through the man’s cultivation with the Eye of Nullification.
“How is he alive with all these injuries?” Kong Mengqian also arrived with a large pot in her hand. The spirit cuisine inside had finished cooking, but she dumped it without hesitation.
The powerhouse in the sky did a double take when he saw the pot in the girl’s hand. This was a mid dao rank treasure fashioned in the shape of a pot! What an utter waste!
His eyes gleamed anew when he resettled on the Cosmic Flag in Gui Xie’s hand.
Gui Xie shook his head and looked at his attacker. “Peng Hue, you can have the Cosmic Flag and my life. Let these two go.”
“Hahahaha!!” the man in the sky roared with laughter. “If I kill all three of you, that upper dao rank weapon will be mine and I gain another mid dao rank treasure!”
“So you want to kill us for our loot?” Lu Yun frowned. “Disciple, are you confident in killing him?”
Kong Mengqian rolled her eyes expressively. “Do you think combination powerhouses are cabbages by the side of the street? I am a spirit chef, not a battle genius. I can hold him off, but killing him is too hard.”
“Is a fifteen year old soul separation expert not a perverse genius yourself?” Lu Yun grumbled.
Kong Mengqian was latter soul separation and Peng Yue at latter combination. There was a major cultivation stage of difference between the two. Not to mention, the girl spent most of her time and effort researching spirit cuisine. It was already surprising enough that she could fend off someone stronger than her.
“The girl is a bit young, but she’s still a beauty, hehehe.” Peng Yue didn’t hear their conversation, but wouldn’t care if he did. He took in his fill of Kong Mengqian and leered lasciviously.
“You court death!” Being young as she was, Kong Mengqian easily lost her temper at offensive words. She cocked her hand back with the pot and shot into the sky.
Boom!
It grew to the size of a small mountain before she swung it at Peng Yue.
“Careful, he’s very strong! He’s not an ordinary cultivator!” Gui Xue called out when he saw the girl rush forward.
Peng Yue’s flying sword exploded with brilliance and slashed the pot. Kong Mengqian rapidly backed up with blood trickling out of her mouth. However, so did Peng Yue suffer from the collision. The girl was very strong and could fully deploy the might of a mid dao rank treasure, so the impact flung him backward for several dozen meters.
“Don’t worry, the girl isn’t an ordinary cultivator either.” Lu Yun took out a green pill from his storage ring when he saw his disciple stand her ground. “Eat this.”
He’d given Gui Xie an ordinary healing pill at first. Now that the combatants in the sky were preoccupied, he brought out a pill of his own making.
Gui Xie blinked, but swallowed the pill without hesitation or suspicion.
“Oof!” He flushed beet red as true origin circulated madly through his body. His injuries healed at a speed visible to the naked eye and were mostly gone after a dozen breaths.
“Is this a spirit pill?!” He opened his eyes with shock.
There were nine ranks to pills and spirit pill sat on top of them all. They were very rare in the worlds of cultivation; each one was worth cities. The Nineturns Profound Life Pill that Lu Tianling had obtained for Lu Yun was only a low ranked spirit pill, but it was one that the Darklake royal family had paid a great price to possess.
BOOM!
Another loud explosion detonated in the sky before Lu Yun could respond. Kong Mengqian batted Peng Yue away with her pot, but she also flew backward, drenched in blood. Lu Yun could tell that as fierce as Kong Mengqian was, this was only temporary. She would start losing in a prolonged exchange due to a lack of battle experience.
Gui Xie quickly grabbed the Cosmic Flag when he noted the situation and scrambled to his feet to help Kong Mengqian.
“Don’t rush!” Lu Yun stopped him in his tracks. “She’s just broken through and needs a powerful opponent to hone her skills.”
“Um…” Gui Xie paused. “Is the miss your dao partner, sir?”
“She’s my disciple.” Lu Yun waved off the rest of the conversation. “What’s going on? You’re peak latter combination realm and you cultivate the Immortal Canon of Life and Death. How did a mere latter combination cultivator injure you?”
The Immortal Canon of Life and Death was the method of Empress Myrtlestar from the world of immortals. Although Gui Xie had only practiced it for one short year, his true origin had fully transmuted to true origin of life and death. When he wielded the Cosmic Flag, he should be invincible among his peers.
“He’s not the reason for my injuries,” Gui Xie chuckled ruefully. “When I was in the Dark Orchid capital, I happened to overhear two Nineheavens Pagoda disciples discussing what they wanted to do to you. After asking around, I learned that the sect holds a grudge with the gentleman. I decided to teach them a lesson. Who knew that there would be an immortal in residence at the sect?! He inflicted most of the wounds that you see.”
“You destroyed the Nineheavens Pagoda?” Lu Yun blinked.
“Yes,” Gui Xie sighed. “Although I turned you down that day, I am not an ungrateful person. The method you taught me is unmatched and unrivaled, I must return the favor.”
“You’ve gone to quite a great deal of trouble,” Lu Yun sighed inwardly. Gui Xie… was a man after his own heart.
“Peng Yue was an old friend of mine, I once saved his life in the Barren Mountains. I didn’t think he’d kick me when I was down and covet my upper dao rank weapon! He ambushed me and injured me deeply. Thank goodness I ran into you here.” Gui Xie’s expression was unpleasant and goodwill continuously bubbled from him to be absorbed by the Seal of the Multitude.
“So he’s a complete ingrate.” Lu Yun lifted his head to see Kong Mengqian sent flying by another sword stroke. She was on the losing side now. “It looks like I need to teach my new disciple how to fight at some point. Time to help!”
He rushed upward with Immortals Forbidden. Gui Xie had mostly recovered through the aid of Lu Yun’s pill. He, too, waved his flag and shot upward.
Whoosh!
Lu Yun manifested a person next to him with a wave of his hand—his talisman puppet, Lu Yi. The puppet wielded a lower spirit rank sword and brought it down on Peng Yue’s head. The latter quickly dismissed the combat art he was about to deploy and defensively raised his sword in front of him.
At the same time, Gui Xie unfurled the Cosmic Flag and called starlight to him. They condensed into an enormous silver curtain that churned toward Peng Yue.
“Idiot! Don’t rely on the treasure’s innate strength. You need to combine it with your own methods!” Lu Yun couldn’t help but lecture when he saw Gui Xie propel the flag with his true origin.
“Heh heh heh,” Peng Yue cackled. “What does a cultivator from a low ranked world of cultivation know about combining treasure and dao methods? Illusory Dust!”
His lower dao rank weapon flared at his shout and struck downward with a dozen rays of sword light. They raced with plumes of smoke and light, obliterating Lu Yun’s talisman puppet. Peng Yue then ripped through Gui Xie’s curtain of light with another blow.
Gui Xie trembled and stumbled backward.
“Who would’ve thought that you’d recover so quickly, Gui Xie! Looks like there’s a few more treasures yet on this kid…” Peng Yue leered and threw out his flying sword. It exploded into thousands of tiny rays of sword light in the air and arced down at Lu Yun and the others.
“Ten suns in the sky, set fire to the heavens to cook the seas!” Kong Mengqian roared and threw out her pot. It expanded into a massive pot several dozen meters across and hovered protectively over the trio.
She then threw out a blossom of blue flames. They turned into a miniature blue sun that emitted with baleful heat waves. The heat melted the incoming rays of sword light.
