Throughout the journey, Gu Chuyan leaned against the edge of the seat and fell asleep.
By the time they returned to Xiao Family Manor, it was already 5 p.m., twilight in winter, and the temperature on the mountain dropped drastically. When the car door opened, a surge of cold wind blew in.
Gu Chuyan shivered from the cold, opening her eyes.
“I can walk myself.” Seeing him extend a hand towards her, she gently shook
her head.
Xiao Mohan lifted her out of the car and asked, “Are you sure you can walk?” “Mhm,” she responded.
Actually, her foot had been stomped on a few times by Gu Miaoting, which hurt a bit. But, it wasn’t sprained, and not as severe as he had thought.
“Mm.” As Xiao Mohan took a phone call and slowed his pace, he turned his head back occasionally. He stood there in the end, as if waiting for her.
Upon seeing this, Han Changqing sat in the driver’s seat.
“What?” Han Changqing received a call, his face turned pale. He almost toppled off his chair, supporting himself against the steering wheel, disbelief resonating in his words, “Sir, someone accused you of engaging in lowly acts?
Who did this?”
If Xiao Mohan found out about this, he would definitely kill him.
“Understood.” Listening, Han Changqing looked up in resignation.
He just wanted to escape now. How did he not get wind of this situation?
Xiao Mohan naturally knew that Gu Yan would investigate him, but someone with his status — who could possibly discover anything about him? The Xiao family had always been mysterious. Those who dared to pry into their secrets never met good ends.
However, someone had fabricated Xiao Mohan’s identity as a person of low standing. This was an incredibly brazen act.
“Sir,” contemplated Han Changqing as he got out of the car and approached quickly with long strides.
Upon seeing him approach, Xiao Mohan moved his phone away from his ear, suggesting that Han Changqing could speak.
Han Changqing leaned over and whispered something into Xiao Mohan’s ear, and Xiao Mohan’s handsome face suddenly looked terrible, eyes flashing with coldness.
“Wen Shui!” Xiao Mohan gritted his teeth and exploded two words.
Who else, besides the master of Wen’ange, could manipulate such matters? There’s no need to investigate, he already knew who did it!
“Sir,” Han Changqing hinted and wondered what the next step should be. Looking at Gu Chuyan heading inside, Xiao Mohan fell silent for a few seconds,
“She… probably needs a nanny.”
“Yes.” Getting the meaning, Han Changqing left.
Xiao Mohan picked up the phone again, striding to catch up with her figure, slowing his pace to match hers, the setting sun casting long slender shadows of them both.
“You.” Gu Chuyan started to speak, only to see Xiao Mohan suddenly end his call and held her hand.
His large palm covered her wrist, as if he was deep in thoughts.
The two walked slowly back into the mansion where the front door opened automatically.
“Come with me,” he said.
Gu Chuyan watched him walking upstairs. She limped behind him and noticed him entering a room, approaching cautiously.
“Whoosh.” The sound of the door made her jump.
Upon entry, a warm yellow light came on, illuminating many bookshelves. The room was surprisingly large, almost the size of two bedrooms.
An exquisite antique desk was placed in front of the floor-to-ceiling windows. To the left was a black leather sofa, and the wall area was completely filled with bookshelves, each packed with an astonishing number of books.
“Click.” Xiao Mohan walked over and placed his hand on one side of the shelf. She saw a box popping out from a gap in the bookshelf and he quickly grabbed it.
Xiao Mohan took the brocade box and walked over to her. Seeing her standing there, he motioned for her to sit on the sofa.
Under the warm yellow light, Gu Chuyan was dressed in a long white sweater that reached her knees. She was wearing leggings underneath, dressed simply without affectation, which only accentuated her pure, stunning beauty..
