Chapter 429
C429 – Jiang Hao’s Results
Huang Tianhua surveyed the excited faces around him and allowed himself a rare smile.
“Alright, everyone, let’s settle down.”
As Huang Tianhua’s voice cut through the chatter, the crowd fell silent, eagerly anticipating his detailed explanation.
“The captain will soon give you a full briefing on today’s target shooting exercise…”
Before Huang Tianhua could finish, a whistle pierced the air.
Instantly, Huang Tianhua sprang to his feet, and within moments, the others followed suit, swiftly forming an orderly line.
“Everyone assemble in front of the main podium!”
At the command from the front, Huang Tianhua, with a throng of puzzled faces in tow, quickly convened before the main stage.
Once the chief instructor concluded the drill commands, the captain took his place at the podium, surveying the crowd with a nod of approval.
“Today, I have some exciting news for everyone!”
“Per the higher-ups’ directive, this year’s military training is being revamped. Tomorrow, you’ll get the opportunity to engage in a live-fire shooting exercise…”
The Regiment Commander was interrupted by an uproar from the crowd.
“Damn, live-fire shooting? Am I hearing this right?”
“Holy shit, seriously?”
……
Amidst the disarray, the captain on the stage lost his cool and unleashed a tirade on the crowd.
Subsequently, the instructors were summoned and faced immediate reprimand!
The new recruits couldn’t escape a rigorous workout from their instructors either!
Yet in this moment, they were experiencing a blend of agony and elation.
That night, many were too thrilled to sleep a wink!
The following day, the new recruits arrived at the parade ground, buzzing with excitement. After a round of drills, they were led to a rudimentary shooting range.
There, they were greeted by soldiers, armed and vigilant, patrolling the area.
They took turns entering the basic range, eager to start their shooting practice.
The instructors had drilled them repeatedly on gun handling techniques, and their daily drills with plastic model firearms were about to pay off.
The rifle for the shooting practice was the familiar Type 95 automatic rifle.
Each recruit was issued five bullets, and in groups of twenty, they took to the stage, each accompanied by a soldier.
With anticipation mounting, it was finally Jiang Hao’s class’s turn to step up.
They split into two groups, with Jiang Hao in the first group, manning the eighth target station.
Gripping the gun, Jiang Hao’s marksmanship had reached a level where the Type 95 felt like an extension of his own arm.
Peering at the target just 100 meters away, a hint of a smile played at the corners of Jiang Hao’s mouth.
Then, the instructor called out from behind.
“Take your positions. Begin!”
With concerted effort, everyone quelled the thrill within, chambered their rounds, and, following the instructor’s ‘three-point line’ technique, squeezed the triggers, setting off a volley of gunfire.
“Bang, bang, bang—”
Jiang Hao fired off five shots in quick succession, his eyes tracing the bullet holes clustered at the target’s center, his smile widening ever so slightly.
Soon after, the others finished as well. At the instructor’s command, they reluctantly set down their firearms and stood at attention.
A staff member emerged to replace the spent target papers and tally the scores.
By the time Jiang Hao’s group had completed their round, their shooting scores were already compiled.
Huang Tianhua, eager with anticipation, sought out the score of his esteemed deputy, Jiang Hao.
“10 points, 0 points, 0 points, 0 points, 0 points!”
But upon seeing Jiang Hao’s results, Huang Tianhua was taken aback.
What had happened?
A bullseye on the first shot, and then nothing but misses?
Could this be true?
