Chapter 81
Chapter 81
C81 – The Melodramatic Plot! A Nightmare!
“What?”
Jiang Hao was taken aback.
But the shock quickly morphed into solemnity.
“It looks like my hunch was right!”
“He must be from some secretive organization. He feared the police would uncover his secrets after I called them, which is why he took his own life!”
“But what secret could be so dire that he’d forsake his life over it?”
Jiang Hao’s mind swirled with questions.
Just then, a series of knocks on the door jolted him from his reverie.
“Knock, knock, knock!”
“Hao, everything okay?”
Jiang’s mother’s voice, tinged with concern, came from outside.
Jiang Hao hurried to his feet, straightened himself out, and opened the door, feigning nonchalance.
“Mom, what is it?”
Seeing Jiang Hao acting as if all was well, Jiang’s mother appeared slightly confused but didn’t press further.
“Oh, it’s nothing. I just wanted to tell you dinner’s ready. You and Zixuan should eat. I’m going to check if your father has packed up the stall.”
“Got it!”
Jiang Hao responded, then let out a silent sigh.
“Mom, I have money now. There’s no need for you and dad to keep working the stall. You should enjoy yourselves, go dancing, take walks!”
Jiang’s mother chuckled at his words, her eyes beaming with pride at her son.
“I’m too old for dancing. And after being busy for so many years, your dad and I wouldn’t know what to do with all that free time.”
……
Despite his efforts, Jiang Hao couldn’t sway his steadfast mother and eventually let her be.
Post-dinner, he retired early to bed, drained from the day’s harrowing events.
He quickly succumbed to a deep slumber.
Time slipped by unnoticed until Jiang Hao, previously sound asleep, began thrashing about in bed, his hands clawing at the air uncontrollably.
Suddenly, he bolted upright!
“Huff, huff, huff…”
With eyes wide and forehead slick with sweat, he gasped for air.
Awakened, Jiang Hao used the moonlight to orient himself and realized he was in his bedroom.
It had all been a nightmare.
He wiped the sweat from his brow and collapsed back onto the bed, utterly spent.
However, as soon as he closed his eyes, the image of Number Three’s face, bleeding from all seven orifices, would involuntarily flood his mind.
Jiang Hao let out a wry smile.
“It looks like I’m still just a mortal. Even with the system, fear is inevitable.”
Feeling helpless, Jiang Hao had no choice but to rise, switch on the light, and climb out of bed.
He tiptoed out of the bedroom and grabbed a glass of water.
Yet, despite his carefulness, Jiang’s mother was still awakened.
She emerged from her bedroom, looking puzzled, and upon seeing Jiang Hao, expressed her concern.
“Hao, what’s the matter?”
Jiang Hao, seeing that he had disturbed his mother, wore a look of regret.
“Mom, it’s nothing. I just can’t seem to fall asleep.”
“Can’t sleep?”
“What’s the matter? Should I find you a couple of pills?”
Jiang Hao was about to decline when Jiang’s mother, wearing a face full of worry, had already gone to fetch the medication.
In no time, she returned with a bottle of Anshensan Pills.
“Hao, these are the pills your dad bought last time he couldn’t sleep. They shouldn’t be expired. Check the instructions—how many do you need to take?”
Jiang Hao accepted the bottle from his mother and hurriedly replied.
“Mom, you go back to sleep. I’ll look at the instructions myself.”
“Alright then, just make sure you take the medicine.”
With that, Jiang’s mother turned and left.
Watching his mother depart, Jiang Hao carried the water and medicine back to his bedroom.
Once back in his room, he examined the bottle in his hand and murmured.
“I wonder if they’ll actually work.”
He then opened the bottle and located the instruction manual.
“Take once a day, fifteen pills at a time.”
