Chapter 157: I Didn’t Want You To Wait For Too Long
Dead silence.
A long time passed before Mu Siyin mustered her strength to say something. She croaked, “Why are you telling me this suddenly, Cuz?”
Lu Jingchen took a few deep breaths. “I admit that Shi Beiyu is a good catch. Millions of women would die to be with him, but I hope that you’re not one of them.”
“Why?” Mu Siyin insisted.
She had to know the reason why he said that.
Lu Jingchen remained quiet for a while. Then, he whispered, “Everyone in the socialite circle knows that Old Master Shi’s birthday is just a facade. They’re going to pick a fiancee for Shi Beiyu tomorrow.”
Mu Siyin’s heart skipped a beat.
Lu Jingchen added, “Only the most elite and distinguished family in the capital received the invitation. Mu Corporation is practically nothing to them.”
It took a long time before Mu Siyin murmured, “He won’t.”
Lu Jingchen was speechless. “One should only marry another in equal status, Yinyin. It doesn’t work the other way round. Even if he likes you now, can you guarantee that you’ll be the one he marries?”
“I trust him, Cuz.”
“Yinyin!”
“I-I’m going home now. Let’s talk another day.”
Upon saying so, Mu Siyin lifted her hand to cut the call. Her body was as stiff as a rock, and her thoughts were all over the place.
Were they picking a fiancee for him?
She knew that his family did not accept his relationship with her. However, she did not expect them to make plans for his marriage so fast.
As she dwelled in her thoughts, she sat on her seat again and stared into space. She thought about a lot of things.
She did not know how long had passed when her phone suddenly rang. It instantly woke her up from her trail of thoughts.
She lowered her head to check her phone. It was from Shi Beiyu.
An attractive and soothing voice came through from the other end of the phone. “Why haven’t you gotten off work yet?”
Mu Siyin murmured, “I’m a little bit busy today. How about… you head back first?”
“I’ll wait for you downstairs.”
Shi Beiyu did not give her a chance to reply before ending the call.
The corner of Mu Siyin’s lips curled slightly. She believed in him. He would not pick another woman, right?
Feeling relieved, she continued to pack her things.
When she was downstairs, she saw that familiar car.
As she walked closer, the car door yanked open, and a huge hand pulled her into it. In an instant, she landed in his wide yet familiar arms.
Mu Siyin took the lead and hugged him tightly. She wanted to take in his breath, warmth, and the familiar beat of his heart.
Shi Beiyu knew something was wrong from Mu Siyin’s reaction. Hence, he instinctively narrowed his bottomless, amber-colored eyes. Then, he reached his hands out, caressed her long hair, and whispered, “What happened?”
He could feel fear emancipating from Mu Siyin’s body.
Mu Siyin shook her head. “Nothing.”
Shi Beiyu narrowed his eyes again. “I thought you said that you were busy? Why did you come down so early?”
Mu Siyin paused for a while before muttering, “I didn’t want you to wait for too long.”
The corner of Shi Beiyu’s lips lifted as he looked at her. “It doesn’t matter how long I have to wait. As long as it’s for you.”
Tears suddenly welled up in Mu Siyin’s eyes, and she nodded lightly. “But I don’t want you to wait.”
Yan Ze was in the driver’s seat when he realized the change in the atmosphere. It seemed like the couple was about to kiss again, so he quickly rolled the partition up.
He would drop dead from all their displays of public affection.
After going back to the villa, the couple had their dinner together. Noticing that Mu Siyin looked tired, Shi Beiyu carried her back to the room so that she could kick in earlier that night.
“I’ll be heading to the study room for a while. There are still some things that I need to look into, so you should sleep first.”
Mu Siyin nodded her head. “Okay.”
