Paragon of Death

Chapter 155

155 Chapter 154: Damon embarrassed?

Xiu!

Damon returned to the castle in a black cloud and quickly entered the courtroom, before taking a seat on his throne. His face was pale and his body a bit shaky. Even though a good portion of the holy energy has been removed, allowing him to regenerate mana, the damage caused by the holy energy was still deep in his boys, healing slowly but just a bit too slowly.

He leaned back on the throne and slowly shut his eyes. His breathing was ragged as he considered how long it may take for him to completely recover from such injuries.

“A month at least... So for a month, I will have to deal with this pain and anguish. Hehehehe” Damon chuckled lightly as the thought crossed his mind.

“Demos... Is the inheritance talk true?” Damon asked calmly and waited for the voice in his head to reply

[Once the world decides its hosts have reached maturity, it reveals the gateway to the inheritance which they badly seek... but of course, the journey is a dangerous one. Far more deadly than these little skirmishes you all have been getting involved in. Your undead soldiers won’t be able to help you in there. You only have yourself to rely on] Demos explained and Damon frowned

Why would the world they are trying to save give them tests?

“And what happens when the world finds you unworthy of the inheritance?” Damon asked with squinted eyebrows.

[You are killed on the spot and replaced. That was how it has always been. That was how the old set of hosts were the only ones who the world approved of completely. So instead of having them die and follow the normal cycle, the world kept forcing their souls to reincarnate as it considered them the perfect hosts. Unfortunately, this happened.] Demos said in a low tone as if he was pondering on his words.

.....

Hearing this, Damon snorted disdainfully and slowly opened its eyes. In his opinion, those who came before him were all dumb since they fell for some crazy traps which he could see a mile away. They were too trusting, too good, and too compassionate. If those are the things the world requires, then he will most likely to be a part of it. In Damon’s opinion, if the hosts were more like him now, none of them would have died easily.

[They had the heart of compassionate rulers, the heart needed by God!] Demos sensed Damon’s thoughts and felt offended by them but Damon snorted disdainfully and pushed away his argument.

“Heart of Gold? Heart needed by God’s? Crap! They were weak and naive to think they can create a peaceful world with such a heart. Do you know what it takes to become absolute? Do you know what it takes to have the right to demand peace? Look at the blood mountain. Yes, these people fear me but they are living the best lives they can ever ask for! Or do you think my method here is unfair?” Damon growled with narrowed eyes stabbing at the massive entrance doors of the courtroom like daggers.

[You have indeed created a peaceful place here but these old hosts would have achieved the same using a different method] Demos said in a low tone as if it was afraid of pissing Damon off.

“Hmph! In this world, there are two important things everyone needs to know Respect is earned, and even those who respect you can betray you for the right price. Respect can be used to build a nice castle but it cannot build the foundation of the castle, which will lead to a collapse. Fear on the other hand is necessary to build the foundation! See these people of the blood mountain. At first, I used fear to suppress them sending them back home but since then I have done things for them which has earned me their respect but the deep-rooted fear remains. That is why there are no crimes in the blood mountain. Every issue and quarrel between two people or more must be brought to me to be settled. This kingdom is moving and growing steadily! This is reality! This is how a country or a world should be run!” Damon said coldly but this time there was no response from Demos. He could still feel the presence of death but it was silent while pondering on his words.

[Not everything must be controlled with an iron fist!] Death finally spoke before his presence vanished, not giving Damon the chance to speak!

Bang!

Damon was infuriated and he slammed the armrests of the throne and tried to stand but the injury he sustained acted up at that moment, causing him to spit out blood and fall back on the throne.

“This...” Damon muttered with a bitter smile.

“You keep putting so much stress on yourself... you know you can count on the rest of us right?” Elsa’s voice rang in his ears and Damon looked up, only to see the Emerald green-haired elf walking over to him. Her stones were as green as an emerald, flashing with some sort of comforting energy which Damon fell in love with.

It felt like all his worries vanished whenever she was around. Something really addictive

“You dare cast your little charms on me, are you not afraid of death?” Damon said with a bitter smile as he watched her approach.

Elsa sat on his legs and leaned forward while rubbing the face of the so called feared death mage and laughed softly.

“Just as we agreed back there, we both hold each other in a special place in our hearts, so your duty is to protect me while mine is to make sure you remain sane when necessary” Elsa said with a cute smile but that of Damon slowly faded. He could feel the sorrow in her heart after getting betrayed by her own mother. She was trying to play it tough, that’s why she kept smiling no matter how much it hurt.

“You don’t have to smile anymore. It’s okay to let it all out once in a while. At least we both know no one can hurt you with me around” Damon said as he brushed her hair gently with his palm. Elsa just leaned in with tears running down her eyes and her face buried deep into Damon’s neck.

Bang!

The doors swung open not long after and the others walked into the room. They all gazed at the duo on the throne in shock but no one knew how to react. While Gin and Cyrus wore mischievous smiles, Lucy had an ugly look on her face.

Her emotions were noticed by Damon who shot her a deadly glare as a vague image of death surged from his body while his killing intent filled the room

“You dare carry such intentions for her? Do you really think I can’t take your life?” Damon said those words slowly and coldly.

Buzzzzz!

The room felt silent as they turned and saw the terrified Lucy on her knees. Damon’s killing intent was like a knife stabbing deep into her chest, threatening to rip it open and steal her soul.

Elsa just ignored everything around her and remained in Damon’s arms while his killing intent surged violently.

“That’s enough... or you may end up killing her for real” Cyrus’ voice echoed across the room as his figure blocked that of Lucy and his eyes let out a bright golden glow!

Boom!

Damon shut his eyes quickly as he felt a stinging familiar pain assault his body and immediately his killing intent vanished.

“Ouch...” Damon muttered with a bitter smile while trying to regulate his breathing.

“Sorry... I didn’t know you were still hurt” Cyrus apologized with a slight bow.

“Sooo.. no one is planning to tell me when this relationship started?” Gin said as he tiptoed across the courtroom with a mischievous smile on his face.

Hearing this everyone’s eager eyes shifted to the two seated on the throne. Honestly, even his relationship with Lucy wasn’t this intimate. This sudden level of relationship seemed far more than what someone using the death magic is allowed to have.

Damon leaned back and closed his eyes while he considered possible responses to break this conversation but Elsa suddenly sat up with a bright smile.

“Since the first war five years ago. When the blood clan forces were racing down and everyone felt intimidated, Damon led his army, charging at the enemy without fear. That was the bravest scene I got to see all my life. It was just too cool” Elsa said happily and everyone laughed except for Damon who covered his face with his hands.

“When he came for the elf camp that night I thought he came to kill me but instead he went through all that trouble to save me even though I was working with his enemies. I just couldn’t hold it in anymore. He may act like a bad guy but he has a soft spot for those he cares about” Elsa explained while Damon hoped someone would dig the ground and bury him, how the hell is this girl able to say all of this with a straight face?
