225 Chapter 224: Unwanted secrets
Swish!
The claw energy attack danced beautifully in the air as it raced towards the figure above, smashing into it. A cloud of red and white dust lit up in the sky, completely shrouding the figure of the target!
Powerful shockwaves shattered everything about five hundred meters from the attack location erupted and Armanthos casually turned his back and began walking away. As a hunter who has successfully destroyed his prey, he had the right to turn his back on him and leave.
“I don’t think it would be wise to turn your back on a foe!” A voice rang in Armanthos’ ears making him frown!
Impossible!
Armanthos was shaken!
Unlike before, this Voice lacked the distinct pride ancient beings should have!
Swoosh!
Without hesitation, Armanthos spun and threw an elbow attack but it was caught effortlessly by the towering figure dressed in black!
.....
“I only realized how much smaller than me you are!”
Armanthos heart shook as he heard those words as complete darkness stood over him with a pair of blood-red eyes.
Haaaaaa!
Armanthos’ growled as he threw a palm attack forward and his aura exploded but even when he struck the darkness he was forced to retreat, making him pale and show fear for the first time.
Whoosh!
The cloud of darkness vanished and Damon’s figure was revealed. He looked perfectly calm for a man in his condition. With his skin shredded and countless wounds located on all parts of his body, Damon stood with a smile on his face, like a child who discovered something new and wants to share the news with his loved ones.
“Damon Ross?” Armanthos muttered with a deep frown.
His right elbow had cracks on it and his skin was as dry as wood, making it seem as if it would break off at any moment.
“You were right, all this time I have been playing Damon Ross when I should have truly represented my power… Damon Ross is only a name. The God of death is the ident!”
Bang!
Saying those words, Damon’s face turned fierce as his body exploded into a cloud of black mist surging forward!
What’s this?
Armanthos felt his hairs stand and a cold sweat roll down his spine!
Fear!
When did a lone wolf begin experiencing fear? How can the tiger who rules the mountain experience fear?
Armanthos was furious but a voice rang in his mind.
‘Mortals die, beasts die, gods die. Regardless of what you are, in the final moments of life, you will show fear!’
“DAMON ROSS!” Armanthos bellowed as his power exploded from his body and surged furiously.
Just like Damon he too understood that a battle is first fought with the mind. Once that battle is lost, there is close to zero chance of surviving the main fight!
“Fury and fear are two distinct emotions, you will learn to differentiate between these feelings, and then you will fear me” the same voice rang in his mind as darkness began to spread around him.
The black mist had already spread everywhere and the pair of blood-red eyes circled him like a predator in the night!
The hunter has become the prey!
The lone wolf that once dominated the mountain alone has finally met death!
...Meanwhile...…
Back in Gyro, Gerald, Dillian, and Duke Hail appeared at the only spot in the capital destroyed by the war.
The holy church cathedral!
On this building, Pope Light stood when Blink returned the attack which was worth the combined power of almost every capable fighter and mage in the capital. No one expected him to survive such an attack, that’s why they didn’t even bother coming here until now. They had the living to attend to first before visiting the dead.
“To think three of the oldest figures in the capital would be lost in one day,” Dillian said with a deep frown on his face while gazing at the only hand sticking out of the rubble.
It looked old and shriveled, lacking any sign of life.
The pope is dead.
“I will have people come over and get to work… those who can’t fight will focus on rebuilding what has been lost…” Duke Hail said before offering a deep bow to the deceased.
Although he and the old man always bickered and fought all the time, he deeply respected these ancient figures who he considered uncles since he practically watched them while growing up.
“There is a powerful life force hidden underneath the cathedral… if I didn’t come here I wouldn’t have noticed it… but why put so much effort into concealing something?” Gerald seemed to ignore everyone else and focus on his concerns.
With the power of the Phoenix pathway, his sense of life force was strong. He could sense something faint here but it was almost like an illusion. At first, he thought pope Light may be on his final breaths so he came to pay his respects, only to realize the man was dead by the time he came here but the strange life force still remained.
“Brother?”
“Your Highness?”
Dillian and Duke Hail were confused by Gerald’s words.
“Something alive is living under the cathedral. Something the pope must have tried to keep hidden from the rest for the kingdom!” Gerald’s voice was stern and cold. If there is something he knew from his short life span is that the only secrets that remain untold are the worst ones.
He and his brother have been too busy developing themselves in preparation for this day so they paid little attention to the activity of a lot of people and left everything to the previous son of heaven.
“Something like this can’t exist without their father knowing about it, but if their father knew he was the type to share it with them if it worked out! The fact the son of heaven never mentioned it, means it was a complete failure so why is a failure still alive?” Gerald said with a deep frown carved into his forehead.
