63 Chapter 62: Letting it all out
After listening to all he had to say, Damon frowned and leaned back while pondering. What the old man said was quite true to start with. In history most times when the guardian spirit has been killed is after they started a war against each other which claimed the lives of many. Countless races have taken the initiative to join hands just to deal with them and in a bid to do this they have suffered terrible losses.
To be honest, if he were put in the same position he would have done the same.
“In this world, the concept of right and wrong does not exist. Your right and my right may not be the same. While you have history to back up your claims and you are doing this for the sake of peace and stability. Don’t you also think these new hosts deserve a chance to prove themselves? Gin’s family, Klien’s sister, and Cyrus’ brother. All these hosts had lived as hosts in the empire for more than two decades. They were aware of the past and deeply tried to avoid it by not using their true powers. During their time of living, they gave no reason for the kingdom to hate them, instead, they served diligently yet they were killed. Do you still think don’t deserve a chance? Even if not as citizens of this kingdom but as humans who just want to live” Damon said with so much disdain and venom even the arch mage was stunned.
He had never seen anyone so bitter before.
“Do you really think that the empire did right by these three individuals giving it their best for the sake of this empire? Putting twice the effort to maintain the peace and restrain their crazed desires. Considering the kind of people they are, I can bet with my life that if the time came and they couldn’t control themselves anymore, these people wouldn’t have hesitated to take their life for the sake of the empire. Now tell me such dedicated youths did not deserve a chance?” Damon asked with eyes filled with disdain and hatred.
The arch mage was moved by his words and brushed his emotions off as that of a child grieving the loss of important people in the lives of his only friends. He couldn’t deny Damon’s words weren’t false to start with so he couldn’t get annoyed with the child.
“I came across a fox spirit in the capital the other day. A rather powerful one. She told me about her relationship with the former death guardian spirit host and how didn’t feast on humans for her sake yet the kingdom killed her. For no good reason. Is this something to be proud of” Damon asked.
“Enough!” Kratos growled with a cold yet sharp gaze.
“When I speak, you listen!” Damon didn’t back down either with fierce flames of hatred burning in his eyes. His nails dug so deep into his palms that they began bleeding, for the first time he was letting out all his bottled up emotions.
.....
“I lost my parents due to the stupid system which this Kingdom runs on. My team has lost people dear to them and we are just a small number amongst the multitude of people who have suffered injustice at the hands of the empire. Now give me a reason why I should remain loyal?” Damon asked with his venomous eyes staring deep into the soul of the arch mage.
Kratos opened his mouth and closed it because he didn’t know how to respond. The death of Damon’s parents can be dealt with but the tragedy that his friends suffered was carried out by the emperor.
Who will judge the emperor?
“The kingdom can do as it wishes. It can kill anyone it wants and you can even kill me right now but you must keep this in mind. This can only go on for so long. Soon victims won’t be able to stay quiet again. The nobles only make up one percent of the empire’s population so when a revolution is behind who do you think will win?” Damon asked.
“Believe me, I will not go out of my way to antagonize the empire, neither will I go out of my way to deal with those who have wronged me. But keep it in mind that if a revolution should begin because the people are dissatisfied with the empire I will be on the side of the revolution” Damon said with a fierce gaze.
“Now you can either take that like a man and leave my room right now or you can act like you all have always done and kill me even before I become a threat” Damon hissed the last part with disdain.
As someone who has narrowly escaped death a couple of times, he wasn’t scared of dying anymore. While he spoke a terrifying voice kept ringing in his mind asking him to stop but he just hard to pour it all out.
Kratos sat with an ugly expression on his face and listened to Damon in silence. If someone told him that a mere human realm child would speak to him in this manner he wouldn’t have believed it. But this child is not wrong and has every reason to act this way.
When Damon was done he sighed and got up, walking towards the door. When he opened it he saw Gin and the rest standing there with reddened eyes as well. They had heard the entire conversation.
“The death guardian spirit host has been reborn. He killed two humans alongside the fox spirits. He gains power by consuming souls. The more powerful the soul the stronger he becomes. His method allows him to rise in realms really fast. I just wanted you to know this. You shouldn’t go out at night anymore, even if you find a supernatural being, be careful. Look out for yourself and if you do cross paths with him or her you can always alert me” Kratos said with a strange look on his face.
He was confused.
“You guys are his friends too. You shouldn’t act recklessly. Stick together at all times.. that’s all” This time his words were directed at Gin and the others.
