95 Chapter 94: War Halos

Brrr!

Energy surged across the hallway as it surged and gathered around Damon like a layer of armor as his body charged forward, smashing into Katherine, dragging her to the other end of the room, and smashing her into the wall!

Puff!

The fierce energy surging around Damon slowly vanished as his eyes revealed a hint of immense killing intentions. He watched as Katherine slid off the wall, leaving behind a trail of blood as she lost consciousness. Only then did the arch mage appear, standing in between the two with a hint of shock in his eyes while gazing at Damon.

Outside the human realm, a mage is considered more deadly than a fighter and there is a reason for that. Even though Katherine’s lineage has been serving the royal family for generations now, it still didn’t mean people were oblivious of their strength. She may not look like much but Kratos knew how strong she really was.

With her pathway, she could turn herself to water and completely ignore physical damage. While she could not heal her wound, she was best suited to fighting people in enclosed spaces like this, yet she lost here.

The Archmage knew all of this was possible because of Damon’s wind element. If it wasn’t for the wind preventing her from reaching Damon when he was at his weakest, she would have been the one who won the fight.

“Do you really plan to keep testing me this way for an entire month?” Damon asked with a frown.

If this was for someone else then it would be useful. Constant losses and battles would help build one’s fighting experience but for someone like Damon who has seen the past lives of both his werewolf ancestor and the old death mages, he was not lacking in experience. What he truly needed now were more secret techniques.

.....

The manual the Hail family provided him with only taught him two techniques amongst the countless werewolf techniques. His affinity for magic is strong but he has never really gotten enough time to sit and formulate spells of his own. Even a royal maid has a Grimoire worth hundreds of gold yet he has nothing.

Thinking of all of these, even a fool could tell his life was going in the wrong direction. These people weren’t giving him what he needed. They were simply giving him what they felt like.

Arch mage Kratos gazed at him in silence for a short while before finally making a move. His eyes seemed to be filled with reluctance but that was for a short time.

“Come with me...” the arch mage said while carrying the unconscious maid in his hands and they walked down the stairs.

...............................

Damon had to wait for a few minutes as the maid was left with some Oracles to tend to her wound. Damon was quite aware of the fact that the arch mage is a spatial mage capable of teleporting to almost any part of the royal palace but now he complained about the way things are, and the man decided to walk.

As soon as that was done, Damon was engulfed in silver light and before he could speak he vanished and found himself in what seemed like a strategy room for high-ranking military officials. There was a massive round table with a huge map of the continent with detailed figurines representing practically everything in the world.

“The blood clan...” Damon muttered as he walked towards the massive table and gazed at the massive mountain at the center of the continent.

At the peak of the mountain was the place these vampires call home. Besides the fact that they cannot be killed using normal means, the territory was also giving them an unfair amount of advantage, atop their long life making anyone reluctant to fight them.

“It is said that the number of the blood clan has risen to a million but the first blood and their main forces are only around a hundred thousand.” Arch Mage Kratos explained and Damon frowned.

It didn’t sound like much but he was well aware of the kind of threat these people pose. If they say that amongst vampires, their population is a million then it means they have a million fighting forces, unlike humans. Everyone in such a civilization is a capable fighter and then amongst those capable fighters are extremely skilled elites which are about a hundred thousand.

“That explains why the world is joining hands just to make this work... no single nation can beat the blood clan alone!” Damon said coldly.

“If we don’t make a move fast then it will become, no continent can beat the blood clan” Arch mage Kratos said with a frown.

To those words, Damon shook his head in agreement since it was quite possible. The blood clan was like a spreading virus that could affect all living beings including animals. Having them take over the world should be something they can succeed in if they really put their mind to it.

“So why did you bring me here? I don’t think I am meant to be here” Damon asked with a frown.

An important room like this is not a place for a child, even if the child is the chosen one and Damon knew it. There is a reason why there was no one in this room to welcome him. Even though no one told him not to touch a thing, Damon has been extremely careful not to even let his breath shift anything and Kratos appreciated his thoughtfulness in this situation.

“This was meant to be your final destination after two or three weeks of battling the weakest members of the royal guards...” Arch mage Kratos said with a smile but Damon frowned.

Two to three weeks? So if he didn’t speak up, these people were willing to let him face over twenty-one royal guards in a space of twenty-one days!

“There is more to war than you think. There is a reason why one person still needs an army. There is a reason why even the son of heaven has his personal forces” Arch mage Kratos began explaining.

“All of these revolve around one thing...” Arch Mage Kratos said but he was cut short by a mighty voice.

“War halos!”

Buzz!

Without hesitation, Damon fell to a knee with his face lowered as he heard the voice. After hearing him once only a fool would fail to recognize it.

Bang!

The doors swung open as the gigantic figure walked in with his cold eyes pinned on Damon. His emotions were far from those eyes making it close to impossible to understand what was going through the man’s mind.

“Your majesty!” Damon muttered and the man simply nodded in agreement.

“We have countless pathways, a good number of elements and techniques even for fighters but the true measure of strength in war is measured with war halos!” The son of heaven ignored Damon’s greetings and continued speaking as he walked towards the massive round table.

“War halo are simply wide-ranged techniques that boost the power of a large number of people all at once. Each war halo has a unique effect and this is only made available to high ranking officers in the imperial army” Arch mage Kratos said. Continuing from where the son of heaven stopped.

“One learns a war halo when they have reached the level of a brigadier general. Only then is he truly qualified to lead an army but to gain this you need to be at the champion realm at the very least!” Kratos explained.

“But it’s different for you. You see, war halos are extremely powerful but they take a toll on those who use them. Some even come with severe side effects, which only a champion realm master can deal with. But a werewolf with strong healing capabilities can survive these effects too and that’s why the Hails are very important to the empire” The son of heaven explained.

“Because you can have a child do what a general can do. Putting them through hell to attain victory...” Damon muttered with a blank look on his face.

The firm look in the eyes of the son of heaven was enough confirmation. The more he got to know about the world and how it works, the more Damon wanted to destroy it. Truly the concept of good and evil only exists for the weak, the strong can just do as they wish.

Backtracking everything now and considering what would have happened if he wasn’t strong enough. Practically, in the name of training these people were planning to have him get his ass whooped for three weeks straight. So that he can get used to the pain, before being made to learn a war halo so that he can use it in battle.

It sounded harmless and cute when spoken or written but when one thinks about it, one can easily get frustrated. Just like Damon was feeling right now!

He sincerely didn’t know what to do with these people anymore.
