Chapter 16
Chapter 16
Following the formation of their alliance, they immediately began to prepare. Their eyes were on the least risky paths they could take and to see if there were any apartments nearby.
Surprisingly enough, the girl was rather good at directions. In detail, she explained how they could get to the nearest hotel and how to reach it.
It was because of this that Gray left the mapping to her while he went back into the store. He had gotten the things he needed, but she was lacking the necessities she needed.
After making a list of everything to get, he saved it on his phone and went back in through the empty glass panel in the ceiling.
Although there were still zombies in the area section, this time they seemed calmer than before, allowing him to jump over them using the platforms he had created by pausing the air.
After he had passed that section, once he had gotten past all the zombies, it was all light work. They had all gathered up together in that one section.
Gray, having gotten another hiking bag, filled it with clothing and personal needs for women, yes personal needs. Obviously, she was very clear in describing what she needed with regard to the clothes, even down to the size.
Whilst getting the things she needed, Gray made sure to get other items which might come in handy, such as another Zphone for her and some lighters and more solar panel chargers. Who knows, maybe he would be able to find a mechanic who could make use of it.

He found that she had already outlined a plan by the time he got back and after she explained it to him, he looked around and couldn't see any flaws in it.
Despite the fact that she wasn't expressing herself very much, she was taking it seriously. For him, that was all that really mattered.
In this case, the only problem was that she was still suffering from the side-effects of overexerting herself and was therefore not in a position to sprint away from any zombies if the situation arose.
It is because of this that they relied on Gray's skill to travel through the parking lot, evading the zombies and getting away from them at the last minute.
Without having been killed or attacked by a single zombie, the group had left the vicinity of the store and had reached the top of one of the buildings in the city.
There was a lot less noise in the city compared to before. In the midst of all this uncertainty, Gray couldn't help but wonder what exactly the military was doing. At this point, not a single helicopter had flown over the city to survey the area, nor had any new news been posted online.
Even so, the radio towers and the 5G towers were still working. He was able to find this information through his mobile phone, which was still connected to his unlimited mobile data package.
They had been making their way from building to building, jumping across rooftops with Gray's the help of his skill before eventually arriving at an apartment that looked reasonably safe. Without wasting anytime, they broke in.

"Clear." Whispered Gray as he gestured at her to come over.
Seeing this, she did as she had been instructed, and quietly climbed down the stairs. Currently, they were in the midst of an apartment complex. They were going from one floor to another, making sure that all was safe.
There were 20 floors in the apartment, and they were currently on the 19th floor, heading down from the rooftop. Up to this point, they hadn't seen anything.
It was important for them to find a place to stay, a place with running water to take a shower in and a comfortable bed to sleep in. How long has it been since he took a shower? Gray didn't know.
Even so, he was absolutely convinced that he needed one.
As they were about to descend down to the 17th floor, Gray suddenly halted. He gestured for her to wait.
He could hear pained groans coming from just around the staircase. Seeing this, he decided it was time. He took off his backpack, leaning it against the wall as he did so.
She was about to take hers off but was stopped by him when he suddenly said.
"Let's split up. I'll clear the remaining zombies down to the tenth floor. You find us a room and set things up, alright?" He asked tightening the grip over his metal rod.
For a moment, it seemed as though she was hesitating, but after giving it some thought, she nodded. "Be careful."
''Yeah, you too. There might be some in the rooms so pick a room near the exit on the roof'' Gray said, as he descended.

Poking his head out, Gray looked down the hall to the left. It was the same kind of long hallway that Gray had seen on the floors above. There were plenty of doors leading to different rooms evenly spaced out among one another.
The closest door to Gray could be found to the left of Gray, and it was labeled 17A. On Gray's right was a staircase and, ahead of that, another long hallway that was just as empty.
'It's quiet... There's something wrong.'
When Gray entered the hallway, he was wary of everything he saw. Dry blood was splattered everywhere. On the ceiling, on the floor, the walls, yet not a single body. In addition, the fact that he had not seen any zombies made things even more bizarre.
What unnerved him the most were the groans he heard on the floor below him. As opposed to being just one, it sounded like a whole group of them.
Gray leaned against the wall, trying to make out what he was hearing. In addition to the groans, he could hear what sounded like scraping.
He was unable to figure out what it was at the end of it. But regardless it didn't matter. He was about to find out what it was.
After catching his breath, he slowly walked down the stairs, but right before he reached the turn, his heart sank.
After widening his eyes for a moment, he felt cold chills rushing down the spine of his body as he froze. What he was seeing was something he had never expected to see.
It was an appalling being with two faces, each facing one side of it, two arms, and four legs, it's skin a pale rotten purple and it's mouth wide open as painful groans escaped from it's lips. It was as if Gray had been shaken to the core. Almost as if two zombies had merged together to create something even more horrifying, it was as if they had evolved into one.
Fortunately, it had not noticed Gray or his presence and continued walking down the hall without stopping. It was at this moment that Gray realized now was a better time than never, so he went down the stairs. As he poked his head around the corner in order to determine where it was, his pupils dilated.
There it was, right in front of him, it's face right in front of him as it looked him right in the eyes.. Suddenly, its jaws opened wide.
