After the Rottweiler-mix was beaten down with one hit, the original fight between the mastiff and the Rottweiler-mix became unimportant.
The mutts were starting to get worried. With their leader down and unable to support them, what will happen to them in the future?
The mastiff’s pack was not relaxed either, as all of the stress was now on them.
“Woof!”
“Woof woof!”
They didn’t know who started it, but the mutt pack started passionately cheering for the white dog. They felt that since this white dog could defeat their boss, if it defeated their enemy’s boss as well, then wouldn’t it show that their boss wasn’t so useless?
The mastiff looked at the white dog in a different light, finally seeing it as their equal.
When it came to their sizes, the mastiff could easily take on three or four of the white dog. The white dog didn’t seem to have a winning chance at all.
The white dog seemed to be unaware of that fact, sniffing at the air and picking up on the scent of ribs. “That smells amazing. Where did the ribs come from? Should we make them sweet-and-sour or braised?”
How could the mastiff just allow a random new dog eye the prized fresh ribs that were so hard to come by? It decided not to wait anymore, raising its head to let a roaring growl rip from its chest and puffing its entire body out, the flowing fur making it look even bigger than it was.
“There’s a good saying that a biting dog doesn’t bark. You should really learn from the dog earlier. If you want to fight, come over silently,” the white dog patiently explained.
Even before it finished talking, the mastiff had already made a giant leap, pressing towards the white dog with the force of Mount Everest.
The mastiff had learned a lesson from the Rottweiler, who had been defeated even before it could get a single hit in, and decided to press the white dog underneath itself before trying to go for the neck.
The white dog didn’t react too much either. Its body had sprung up from the floor like a spring, reusing the same trick and cleverly worming its way into the mastiff’s hug, using its head to collide with the mastiff’s soft tummy.
“Another headbutt!”
The mastiff was knocked off balance with a crying whine, and it flopped onto the ground like a ragdoll, its mouth opening and closing, before regurgitating its undigested food in a mushy mess with a grunt, stinking up the entire place.
The scene had quieted down again. All of the dogs had shut their mouths, watching the unbelievable miracle with wide eyes.
How was this possible?
Two of their leaders had been completely defeated by a newcomer dog?
The white dog raised its front paw as though nothing had happened, brushing away the few strands of black hair on the top of its head. “Is there anyone that still wants to fight? Come!”
Dogs naturally looked up to the strong, and the mutt and mastiff packs were both as silent as a winter’s night, not even daring to exhale a breath, as orderly and obedient as a bunch of primary school kids.
A new leader was born—a new leader for both the mutt and mastiff packs.
Maybe not only these two.
The wind changed directions and the white dog smelled something odd in the air. When it turned back, it saw a pack of dogs gathered not too far away. It didn’t know when this pack of dogs had showed up, but they had been very disciplined, obediently keeping quiet the entire time.
Standing right in front of the pack was a German shepherd.
Without a doubt, this was the leader of the German shepherd pack. The German shepherd was infamous for being cunning and alert.
The white dog narrowed its eyes, observing the German shepherd. “Hm? You want to try too?”
The clear challenge caused a ripple of anger amongst the members of the German shepherd’s pack, speaking out against the injustice against their pack leader and feeling that this white dog was just an ignorant brat.
The German shepherd was observing the white dog too. It had a higher IQ than most of the other strays around here, and it vaguely sensed something different about the white dog. Even though it wouldn’t be able to explain or articulate it clearly, there was an innate sense of respect and fear that welled up from within, as though what it was facing wasn’t a dog, but something higher than their existence.
It started to head towards the white dog.
The strays around the area perked up, thinking that a new action scene was about to start again. Could this dog, known for its smarts rather than its strength, show them a miracle?
But something unexpected happened.
Even until it had neared the white dog, there was no signs of aggression from the German shepherd, as it kept its head and eyes low, finally lying on the ground on its side, showing its fragile belly in submission.
The leader of the German shepherds waving the white flag without even trying to fight was even more shocking to everyone than the two of them fighting viciously for three hundred rounds before someone won by a narrow margin. Especially for the German shepherd’s pack, besides shock, there was also confusion—their pack leader was going to admit defeat just like that?
The white dog smiled. “Rise. You’re a smart one.”
The German shepherd flipped over but still showed submissiveness, grunting twice at its pack members to come over and pay respects to their new leader.
“No need.” The white dog raised a front paw, stopping the troublesome proceedings of what was to come. “Do you have any other strays around here?”
The heavily injured Rottweiler-mix and mastiff had somewhat gotten their breath back, struggling to stand from the floor. They had completely lost their arrogant stance, and they copied what the German shepherd was doing, lowering their heads before the white dog to show their submission.
The German shepherd barked twice in a certain direction, meaning to say, “There’s another group there. Boss, do you want to go and teach them a lesson?”
The white dog looked up in the sky in deep thought. “I had originally planned to just dry my fur in the sun and take a nap, but I came along to shut you guys up since you were so noisy... But I have a new thought now. Since I’ve already done it, I might as well go through with it all the way and gather all of the strays here into one group to do bigger and better things with my buddies.”
It couldn’t explain the reason, but it had a feeling that its archenemy was extremely strong, so strong that not one single dog would be able to win against it. So it needed friends—a lot of friends.
The strays all looked at each other. They hadn’t understood what it said completely, but they at least got that it had wanted to find more strays.
The German shepherd barked, starting to move towards a certain direction, before turning back to look at the white dog instead. “Boss White, it’s here. I’ll bring you there.”
The white dog nodded before taking a look at the other strays around it, declaring, “Everyone within the country is our comrades! Since everyone’s willing to follow me, from today onwards, we are one family! You treat me as one of yours, and I will treat everyone as such too! As long as we are always there for each other, I promise that I will bring you a better life! If I have a bite to eat, I’ll make sure that none of you will starve!”
Ever since these strays had been chased out of Binhai City, they had been having irregular meals, even having to skip some of them, and were often attacked by wild dogs. They were living the life of poor beggars, pushed to the edge of society by its harsh waves.
Hearing what the white dog said, their excitement was hard to contain and rose in a cacophony of howls and barks, as though they had finally witnessed the arrival of their savior.
The white dog used its front paw to pick up the bag of ribs, but it didn’t send it into its own mouth, but instead threw it up high, sharing the delicious ribs with the strays. Now, it’s just a matter of who was able to snatch it up.
