Chapter 224: The story about the seal
After the edited video was uploaded, there was still a lull for the time being.
With nothing else to do, they started discussing the recent battle and the origins of Regirock after dinner.
As everyone shared their thoughts, Terrance suddenly spoke up: “The reason Regirock was sealed away is because of its special ability — the talent to recover its injuries and stamina by consuming rocks.”
The group nodded. They had already heard Terrance’s analysis about this in the desert.
Unable to defeat Regirock, who possessed such an ability, they had no choice but to seal it away.
Terrance continued, “It was probably about a thousand years ago when Regirock invaded this area.”
“The local buildings were constructed from a type of stone unique to the region called ‘Adamite,’ which was a great source of nourishment for Regirock, who began devouring the stones, and the residents’ homes were the first to be affected, getting destroyed one after the other.”
“The locals, in desperation, invited a ‘Hero,’ but even the ‘Hero’ was no match for the Regirock with the devouring ability.”
“Faced with Regirock’s rampage, the locals had to call in an ‘expert.’ The ‘expert’ taught them the method to seal Regirock, and then many people working together successfully sealed it here.”
“The ‘expert’ also warned that if the buildings were not dealt with, there would be endless trouble in the future. The ‘expert’ left behind the method to unseal Regirock. After much consideration, the locals decided to gradually demolish the buildings and rebuild them with different materials, or to relocate.”“The ‘expert’ and the local residents originally intended to unseal Regirock once everything was fine, so that it is safe. However, they did not expect many things to happen later, delaying the unsealing. During the demolishing of the buildings where the ancient people lived, war broke out, and most people left their homes in search of new places to live. After several incidents, only the ruins where Regirock was sealed remained intact. Fortunately, different people recorded parts of the unsealing method…”
Maki and the others stared blankly at Terrance, mouths slightly agape, unsure of what to say.
“How… how do you know so much?” Maki was stunned.
Even though she knew some ancient script, she still had only a superficial understanding of Desert Ruins’ history. What Terrance was saying was something she had never heard of!
Terrance smiled, “Didn’t you give me the ancient texts recorded on the ruins? I handed them to a friend, who deciphered everything.”
Terrance smiled wryly. Just a moment ago, Cynthia had sent a message.
“That’s impossible…those ancient texts couldn’t possibly hold so much information,” Maki insisted.
“Well… that’s true, but we should find out soon enough,” Terrance was also puzzled. Cynthia had given him a contact. Terrance brought everyone to the Pokémon Center’s video communication area and dialed the number.
Seconds later, a figure appeared on the screen.
The person was dressed in a green explorer outfit and wore a serious expression. At first glance, everyone exclaimed in surprise.
“Mr. Brandon?!”
The person was none other than Mr. Brandon, the Frontier Brain of the Battle Pyramid within the Hoenn Battle Frontier, who had captured three Legendary Pokémon known as the Regi Trio, including Regirock.
“Youngsters…” Mr. Brandon began, surprised to see them.
It happened like this: after Terrance emailed Cynthia, due to the differences in Hoenn and Sinnoh’s histories, Cynthia also didn’t understand much. But Cynthia consulted her grandmother, Professor Carolina of the Sinnoh Historical Research Center.
Although Professor Carolina had more expertise in historical texts than Cynthia, she wasn’t well-versed in Hoenn’s ancient script. So…..she reached out to her old friend, Mr. Brandon, for help.
In his early days as an explorer, Brandon was full of passion and had an adventurous life that often brought him close to death. He frequently visited various ancient ruins and had a deep understanding of Hoenn’s history.
So the story was deciphered from the texts sent to Mr. Brandon.
“Mr. Brandon, you captured your Regirock from the Hoenn desert?!” The six were astonished.
“No wonder… no wonder…” Maki pondered, “No wonder there are so many ruins in the Hoenn desert. It wasn’t just to seal one Regirock.”
“That’s right. During my early explorations in the desert, I accidentally discovered a sealed Regirock, paid the price to awaken it and captured it. I thought I had a great harvest on that desert trip, but I didn’t expect there to be another one,” Mr. Brandon said in surprise.
“I delved into the ancient history of that desert, and learned the story of how Regirock was sealed away, but I didn’t expect there to be more than one Regirock as mentioned by the ancient people.”
“So, the video we published on the adventure website… you saw it?!” Ishi quickly asked.
Mr. Brandon smiled, “Yes, ‘Dream Come True Adventure Team,’ right? Just now, if you had called a little earlier, I might not have known that another Regirock had appeared again.”
The group looked at each other, realizing they weren’t the first to know the truth about the Hoenn desert.
They also understood more or less. After Mr. Brandon’s huge harvest in the Hoenn Desert, it likely caused a stir in the adventure community. Capturing Regirock undoubtedly made many people envious and even drew others here to see if there was anything left to gain.
However, it was just by chance that Mr. Brandon found Regirock. Later, others simply came to the desert to try their luck. There are over a dozen ruins… and some are just useless. Trying to uncover the truth behind it all…how can it be so easy?
Moreover, Regirock was already captured, which was certainly well-known at the time, so attention naturally shifted elsewhere.
In a situation like Maki and the others, inferring clues from other places, coming to the Hoenn Desert to explore, and just having good luck to encounter such a thing…this probability is not very high.
“So, we were lucky…” Arvin chuckled.
Maki pulled out a map, sighed, increasingly eager to understand the essence of ancient civilizations. The “sealing method” must be closely linked to ancient civilizations; otherwise, there wouldn’t be so many mysterious and interconnected ruins. However, these ancient civilizations had long been lost, with only a few people continuing to explore them.
“I’m heading there now. Hopefully, I can encounter Regirock,” Mr. Brandon said.
Terrance and the others exchanged glances. It seemed the uploaded video had already spread through the adventure website. It wouldn’t be long before the Trainer community knew what happened in the Hoenn desert.
