Chapter 342

Chapter 342

Gary showed a slightly annoyed expression when he realized what Alex was up to. He couldn't allow this Bastiodon to just keep buffing himself like that.

"Arcanine, run within attack range. Also, while running prepare [Solar Beam]."

Alex showed a slight expression of disappointment at how quickly Gary had changed his strategy and not allowing his Bastiodon to buff himself more.

He thought, 'well two buffs are good enough.'

Alex said telepathically, "Bastiodon, finish your second [Rock Polish] and then immediately prepare [Rock slide]. Trying to run further away from Arcanine to make it difficult for him to get in range."

Although after the second use of [Rock Polish] Bastiodon has a speed similar to Arcanine, it is not possible to keep this Arcanine out of attack range for a long time.

Because of the limitation of space, the Pokemon that runs away is always at a disadvantage and must always be much faster to bypass this disadvantage.

For example, if two cats of the same speed are playing tag in a 1 square meter space, the cat playing the catcher always has the advantage and will not take long to touch the other cat even if both are of the same speed. The catcher can be even slower and still win easily as long as he takes advantage of the limitations of space.

Bastiodon can only delay time for a bit and not really prevent Arcanine from coming within range soon.

Arcanine runs towards Bastiodon as fast as he can while he prepared his move.

Bastiodon is already at the edge of the arena and can only run sideways to make it take a bit longer for Arcanine to get in attack range.

However, he had already used his second [Rock Polish] and it will not take long for his [Rock slide] to be finished.

Arcanine finally managed to get within range after several seconds and he immediately used [Solar Beam]

Bastiodon tried to dodge but was hit by that yellow-greenish beam.

His body showed only a few minor injuries and Bastiodon only lost more than 20% HP from that hit.

Alex was very happy with these results. Bastiodon, who had a two-level disadvantage, only took that much damage. Even if this move is only on the Expert rank.

Bastiodon ignored the slight pain his body was feeling and he immediately used [Rock Slide] after realizing that he was ready to use this move.

Gary said quickly, "Now, Arcanine"

Arcanine immediately used [Protect] and blocked Bastiadon's attack. The shield managed to block all the damage from this move.

Alex showed a calm expression when he saw that his attack didn't work.

He said telepathically, "Bastiodon, again."

Gary said almost simultaneously, "Arcanine, use [Heat Wave]. Make sure he doesn't run away either."

However, Bastiodon didn't run away or move as he prepared his next move.

Gary didn't know what Alex's plan was but he wouldn't even allow this Bastiodon to buff himself for free.

Bastiodon finished a bit faster than Arcanine and he used [Rock slide] immediately. After that, he immediately started preparing for this move again.

Arcanine tried to dodge the many boulders falling from the sky but was hit. He still didn't faint and "only" lost ~25% of his HP.

However, Arcanine also used his move and hit Bastiodon directly with [Heat Wave]. Bastiodon took even a bit more damage from this hit than from the last one. He lost about 25% HP from this hit.

Gary said quickly, "Again, quick."

Bastiodon showed a calm expression as he not only prepared his next move but ran in the direction of Arcanine.

Arcanine moved to not allow Bastiodn to get closer and to keep the gap at that distance.

But that was just a feint and not something important. Bastidon does this just to confuse Gary and Arcanine a bit.

Alex, who saw Bastiodon throwing in a little feint of his own, flashed a smile as he thought, 'You've come really far, Bastiodon.'

Bastiodon finished first again and he immediately used [Rock Slide] again to end this fight.

Arcanine tried to dodge but he failed again. Even though he's almost done with his next move, Arcanine could only fall to the ground unconscious.

Gary healed his Pokemon while simultaneously considering which Pokemon to summon next.

While Blastoise is the obvious choice, it is not without its disadvantages.

First, [Sunny Day] is still active, which greatly weakens Blastoise's water-type moves.

and second, once he selects Blastoise, Alex will have a chance to select the perfect counter against his pokemon after defeating Bastiodon.

Both of these points can be avoided if Blastoise is summoned by Gary later and not if Alex still has so many Pokemon to choose from. When Alex only has 2 or even 1 Pokemon to choose from, it's much harder to counter his Blastoise. at least in theory.

Although for Gary the first disadvantage is enough not to summon Blastoise as his next Pokemon.

Gary called his next Pokemon with a relatively calm expression. Even though he lost half of his team, he still believes he will win.
