Chapter 106 - Superior Mastery
Chapter 106 - Superior Mastery
Rushing to the colosseum, Shane was still adjusting his body to the new breakthrough to the 9th Mortal stage with a perfect physique.
The difference he felt compared to the 8th Mortal stage was at least an increase of 20%. It was roughly what Shane had expected from a perfect physique.
If he were to compare his strength to that of a flawed physique, a perfect 9th Mortal physique was most likely at par with the 1st Apprentice stage, if it didn't reach it already.
Smiling brightly while running, he entered the colosseum where thousands of students were already waiting to be assessed.
Fortunately, the whole assessment was simplified and the academy used the system in order to test the student's martial art proficiency.
Shane didn't really understand why he had to enter the colosseum for this. He told himself that the teachers just wanted to see how their students fared in combat. There was still a difference in personally seeing someone's proficiency compared to what the system told according to its standards.
Furthermore, by figuring out the most common flaws, each teacher would make a rough plan in order to fix the problems, from coarse to smaller mistakes.
In the end, Shane found this to be useless for him because he had already perfected the combat techniques he currently knew. It would be a wonder if his mastery would be less than perfect.
In order to grade a martial art technique's mastery, techniques were divided into six different masteries.
The first and most shallow mastery was the basic mastery, followed by familiar mastery, experienced, profound, and then perfect.
With perfect mastery, one could learn the technique's whole capabilities, without wasting a single percentage.
However, this didn't mean that perfect mastery was the highest possible mastery.
The Superior mastery was one step above the perfect mastery. If one were to reach such a high mastery, it would mean that the utilizer combines different sequences and techniques together in order to achieve a better result.
If Shane's battle maniac uncle and aunt didn't lie to him, he should have already reached such a mastery two years ago, which caused him to be so full of himself.
He wouldn't hold back a tiny bit in order to achieve what he desired!
Looking out for his teacher, he looked for the information provided at the entrance, only to see Olivia and Aimy standing in front of the elevator.
Approaching them, he noticed that Aimy was bothered by a few students, which seemed to worry her. Olivia pushed the guys back and was almost about to pounce at the youths in order to beat them into a pulp when she suddenly saw Shane.
"Shane!!! How dare you ignore us?! We searched for you yesterday and the day before, but your roommates had no idea where you went! We even heard that you hadn't returned for the last two nights...Don't tell me you already spent your night somewhere else..hehehe."
Olivia switched between being angry and teasing without taking a breath, causing Shane to smile lightly, while Aimy looked at him weirdly.
"Long time no see...I didn't sleep during the last two days and spent my time in the forest inside the academy."
Hearing this, not only Aimy and Olivia eyed him weirdly, but also the youths who Olivia had pushed over.
Who the hell would spend their time in a forest, instead of sleeping in a comfortable bed?
Ignoring the youths on the ground, Shane continued.
"I can take you two to the forest next time if you haven't found it yet. It's quite beneficial there!"
He smiled at the two girls, who couldn't help but feel confused, and the three continued to talk when the elevator arrived.
Confirming the number of the floor he had to go to, Shane also entered the elevator. He later realized that both Aimy and Olivia had their assessment on the same floor as him.
This caused the two girls to be enlightened, as Aimy suddenly said.
"Shane...did you learn during your whole childhood or what? How could you finish the knowledge exam in just over three hours? With full marks at that?! The exam was not that difficult per se, but there were some tricky questions that required long and detailed explanations!"
Looking at Aimy, Shane was unsure what to say, as he tilted his head slightly, and tried to answer
"I'm just good at studying...probably?"
Olivia, who had been listening to the two of them suddenly yelled in frustration.
"How can you say something like that….I also thought I'm good at learning and I barely got 75%...."
Smiling, he couldn't help but think that Olivia's angered expression was slightly cute. He changed the topic when the elevator arrived at the floor for their assessment.
"Are you two confident in reaching a high-mastery with your martial arts techniques?"
Holding her head high, Olivia proudly announced.
"Aimy and I already purchased a [Mortal-(Silver)] martial art technique and both of us achieved a profound mastery a few days ago!!"
Both of the girls seemed to be proud of their achievements. In most cases, a profound mastery after barely learning new techniques for two or three months would probably be considered good.
However, it was barely a Mortal grade technique with a silver quality, which was nothing Shane would ever set his eyes on. The two girls in front of him had probably practiced such a technique because they didn't have the wide variety of techniques he had.
In the end, Shane was an extremely rare case, because he had learned all foundational techniques for close combat, weapons, and even long-range weapons, which included knife and javelin throw.
He couldn't help but smile at Olivia's reaction, which Aimy was also proud of. She hesitantly asked him
"Are you confident in your martial art technique's mastery?"
Entering the floor where they would be assessed, Shane turned around to the two girls, as he simply said
"I think so."
Leaving Aimy and Olivia alone, he approached the segment for his class, which consisted of hundreds of students, causing him to look around in astonishment.
'Were there so many students in my class yesterday?!' Shane hadn't bothered about his classmates the day before, but now, he had to, because it could determine how long he had to wait for his turn.
Seeing his teacher, he approached Mr.Larka in order to inquire about the queue. However, he announced, even before Shane was able to ask.
"Now that everyone is here, we can finally start. The order for the assessment is according to the first letter in your family name.
However, in order to let everything run smoothly, without someone hindering the whole process, one student should demonstrate the whole procedure."
Looking around, Mr.Laika searched for a student that wanted to start, but everyone seemed to behave somewhat hesitant, after perceiving their classmates' strength.
Other students, meanwhile, seemed relaxed and didn't bother about the whole procedure. They wanted to wait for their turn in order to show their true potential, which they couldn't the day before due to Shane, who stole their show.
Nobody wanted to be the first one, and just when the first brave students were about to raise their hand, they could see Shane's hand far ahead in front of them. He shouted out loud, for everyone to hear
"I want to start!!"
With hundreds of students scanning his mana pool rank at once, Shane felt slightly uncomfortable. But he didn't bother about that when he heard a few laughs behind him with others gossiping about his rank.
"Yeah, Nr.1, show us how amazing your martial art techniques are.. Maybe you can even reach the basic mastery for your gradeless technique!!"
"Oiii! Don't underestimate our Nr.1...He will at least reach a familiar mastery!!"
"..."
".."
The majority of students behaved like donkeys, uttering bullsh*t. They had no idea how long it had been since Shane entered the primordial dimension, or if he practiced martial art techniques for months or even years.
[Shane] "...." 'Did I kill their loved pets? Why are they behaving like monkeys?
'Maybe they are degenerates?'
Thinking about this, Shane smiled lightly because he could roughly understand why the students behaved like this.
They were jealous of his knowledge exam result!
Not bothering about such idiots would be the simplest measure Shane could take. He exactly did the same, which enraged several dozen classmates further.
Meanwhile, the calmer students found him interesting. Thus when Shane entered the combat arena in front of all students, these calm students nodded their heads, praising his calmness inwardly.
Activating the recording and assessing the function of his system, he took two deep breaths, before he took out his Tier-2 dagger set from his spatial ring.
Immediately entering a combat stance, Shane decided to demonstrate a martial art sequence combination. It consisted of multiple techniques that were compatible with the usage of mana, as he began to move around slowly.
Using the whole combat arena as his home ground, he began to move around slowly, before his velocity increased consistently, with no signs of slowing down.
Several seconds passed and it looked like he was still becoming faster, as his thrusts, and stabs seemed to turn more lethal, with Shane releasing a faint trace of killing intent in his attacks.
This caused the students in the first few rows to back off a few steps before they calmed down. A minute later, Shane stopped his demonstration after slowing down..
A notification popped up in front of Shane, and he smiled lightly. He sent the result to his teacher, who immediately enlarged the result, in order to show it to everyone.
[Host's [Mortal-(-1)-(Gold)] combined martial art technique reached a [Superior+] mastery]
Looking at his teacher, Shane quietly inquired.
"Can I leave?"
However, because the whole area used for Class 100 had gone eerily silent, everyone had heard him, causing the students to almost collapse on the ground.
'Can't we just beat him up, PLEASE?'
'What audacity!!'
…
..
'Interesting!'
