Primordial Dimensions

Chapter 69 - Wolf Den

Chapter 69 - Wolf Den

Shane felt excited, as he strolled through the forest, carefully searching for purple furred wolves, even though he wasn't sure if there was a den nearby.

His gut feeling, however, told him that he should be careful which he listened to.

As such, his bow was already in one hand, while the other hand had nocked a rare quality tier-1 arrow at the bowstring. He held it carefully, pulling it back a little, without straining his muscles.

Instead of purple-furred wolves, Shane found many other groups, which he killed because he wouldn't waste a source of income.

Several hours had passed and he was an hour trip away from the shelter when he found another small pack of purple furred wolves with two elite stage wolves leading them.

His body went on a high alert as he became extra conscious of his surroundings. Shane was ready to follow them, which would be quite hard, considering that their senses were most likely much stronger compared to the senses of lizards.

Unfortunately, Shane hadn't thought of purchasing a cultivation concealment potion nor an isolation potion to prevent them from catching his scent.

Fortunately, he had found a small mud puddle, and jumped right in to cover his scent, even though it felt disgusting.

As such, Shane could follow the wolves rather easily while maintaining a distance of more than 100 meters between them to ensure his and Umbra's safety.

Right now, Umbra was of no particular use and Shane asked his tamed beast if he would like to stay at an Inn instead of accompanying him in order to progress further on the evolution bar.

This proposal was immediately rejected by Umbra, who wanted to stay with him, even though he was growing aware of his feeble combat prowess with time.

With Shane's capabilities, Umbra could already reach much higher ranks. His taming skill allowed Umbra to reach the mid-elite stage, which was a complete stage above his current strength.

But there was nothing Shane could do about Umbra's stubbornness because Umbra cultivated when he did.

Furthermore, Umbra would get his second quality upgrade soon, which would unlock the last evolution path for him.

Shane was extremely eager to see this, as he continued to follow the small pack of wolves.

The sun was about to set when Shane noticed the purple furred wolves walk through a small cavern entrance.

Shane had a sudden urge to follow them but he decided against it after giving it some thought.

Estimating the distance between the cavern entrance and the shelter, Shane came to the decision that it would at most take 90 minutes to walk back, without any detour.

This did not include him sprinting with all his might or a wolf running towards the shelter.

As such, the distance could be crossed in a quarter of his estimated time if he wanted. It could be considered nothing compared to the vastness of each Primordial Dimension.

Mankind was unsure how vast each dimension was and how many races a dimension could inhabit.

A few adventurous humans had even tried to figure out if the Primordial Dimension were just a large disc-like plane or a planet. Sadly they had neither found an endless cliff somewhere separating the Primordial Dimension from each other nor something similar.

These adventurers had ventured through certain Primordial DImensions for months, only to see new and previously unknown races, without finding a single clue to the vastness of the dimension.

With this in mind, Shane was sure that mankind would have issues with the Wolf den so close to their shelter. Though, he wasn't sure if the den was home to multiple awakened purple furred wolves.

Shane wanted to investigate the Wolf den in order to see if there was a large wolf's pack. He also had to know if there was just one awakened purple-furred wolf leading the pack or if there were more of them.

As such, he was simply wasting his time by just pondering over the possible outcomes while being unable to decide on a suitable course of action.

Venturing inside would kill him, as he wouldn't be able to conceal his mana fluctuations without a skill or potion, which was too expensive for him anyways, with his current funds.

For now, Shane could only wait outside and hide somewhere far from the Wolf den, hoping that some awakened wolf would enter or leave the den without discovering him. He could only be a silent observer and try to find out as much as he could and pass on the information to the Shelter's captain.

Shane wasn't responsible for anyone, but he would feel guilty to not inform the others and save their lives if he could.

He was selfish but there was a thin line that he didn't want to cross. Otherwise, he wouldn't be sitting on a treetop ten meters above the ground, waiting for some wolf to leave or enter the Wolf den.

Umbra had already fallen asleep on his shoulder and he was beginning to get restless when he noticed some movements in the darkness.

However, what he saw shocked him to the core. Several gigantic purple-furred wolves entered the cave with dozens of elite and hundreds of wild staged purple-furred wolves following them silently. The large wolves were around six meters long and their heights towered above two meters.

Shane could only see them due to the moonlight shining through the trees right on the cavern entrance.

What was even more shocking to him was not the sheer number of the tall and mighty looking purple furred wolves which were most likely at the awakened stage, but rather the fact that most wolves had sustained mild to serious injuries.

This indicated that they had been a massive battle and Shane immediately remembered the incident within the elemental crystal cave that had occurred less than two days ago.

Shane's thoughts were running wild and he couldn't comprehend everything he imagined right now, as his premonition worsened even more. His gut feeling told him that he was infinitely close to figuring out the devastating truth.

There weren't many clues provided to figure out something for sure, but Shane knew that the wolf's den that was only a cat's jump away from the shelter, inhabited several awakened purple furred wolves at the bare minimum, probably many more.

He saw six to eight wolves in one group, but there could have been many more outside and inside the wolf's den, that Shane didn't know about.

What Shane knew for sure, was the fact that a large-scale battle took place with many casualties, according to the injuries he could see.

It should have been a rather close victory, if not a tie, which Shane could only speculate.

'Which beast race did they fight? Scaled lizards once again or are they in a war with multiple beast-races? Will they attack us? How many of them are really within the wolf's den?'

Too many questions were brimming in his mind and Shane couldn't answer even a single one satisfactorily. He was glad that he had waited for a few hours in order to understand what was going on and report his findings to the RadiantRing shelter's captain.

To prove his words, he took a few photos with the system's help However, Shane wasn't sure if the pictures were clear enough as it was pitch-black, except the faint light cast by the moon.

He waited for a good opportunity to climb down the tree and return to the shelter unnoticed by the wolves. He was eager to share his findings of the Wolf den with the captain.

A certain saying from earth suddenly appeared in his mind and his lips formed a melancholy smile.
