Chapter 143 143:Merit
After the camp had been set, inside the tent of the Commander of 31st regiment.
A solemn atmosphere prevailed for a moment.
Except for the sound of breathing, all other noises ceased to exist for a moment.
A heavy gasp echoed and what followed that was the cry of shock and dismay.
"Humans...Did I hear clearly?"Mac's gaze turned cold as he stared at the newcomer standing in front.
Leon stood collected before those menacing gazes.
All of them at first would have laughed off hearing this but they didn't dare to as the scouts who delved deeper, saw traps and goblins hiding in the bushes which proved that they were waiting for the ambush.
Still, as much as it sounded absurd, the situation was quite severe. Something that can't be dismissed.
Mac tapped on the table with a deep frown.
"We have divided this whole place into 50 zones. Each regiment is tasked to clear monsters in this 50 zone.Since troops had been scattered we for real don't know who is doing what?We have a time limit of 15 days to one month after which the geologist and other experts would arrive to analyze the space and see if there is another connection leading to somewhere else but it seems…"
Mac pauses his words but everyone can decipher the meaning behind them.
Someone from their side might have betrayed them or...
"The chances of this shadow zone connecting to other worlds or planets are quite low but still it's plausible. However, the other life form is also human is also quite odd as probabilities are much lower than prior."
"Leon, do you know the level of humans or anything noticeable that helps us to identify the.," Mac asked, glancing at Leon.
"I only know about human archers that were hiding. They are at Grandmaster level and there were also two King Level goblins in there."
"Isn't this too much?"Garrison muttered with a frown. His back was already drenched in cold sweat hearing this. With such a lineup, if they stepped into the place to chase goblins, they were bound to be annihilated.
He might haven't seen the day tomorrow if this was really true.
"I still can't believe this information."Vice-Commander Thane muttered, glancing at Leon."It feels as if they were anticipating us."
"Maybe they were," Leon muttered."Can we contact other regiments? If they were anticipating us, that means the others might have also been attacked, the moment they stepped in."
"That's the problem. Communication and infrastructure were to be built after we cleared up the zones. We can only communicate short distances for now."
Mac then stopped the chatter and pointed at Leon" Leon, you have brought us some crucial information so if we manage to destroy the opposition you will be rewarded befitting your merit. Keep your ravens flying over the gorge and report everything. Meanwhile, let's focus on coming up with a suitable strategy."
"Sir, I have a humble suggestion."
"What's it?"Mac asked to which Leon smiled.
'Why don't we just detonate the trap laid for us.''
"HUHH!"
"I mean let's just use the trap to our own advantage."
......
Coming out, Leon heard the sound of steel clashing with one another. A lot of excitement could be felt in the places.
A group ran around, and another one coordinated to attack while archers practiced on the targets.
Except for a hundred or so, most of them were newcomers without much experience. The truth was, all of them sent here were nothing but cannon fodder.
Walking over their corpses and dead bodies, resources were going to be caved in from here, and a utopia was going to be built here.
Leon had been confused about the way this deployment was laid.Like sending 50 regiments into different zones instead of sending at once and where did the fucking gate went?
This was a grave matter as how will he get out later?
He asked Commander Mac but he said he would reply after this battle.
But one thing was sure, all of this was for the betterment of human settlements.
The place felt refreshing, and still new but once humans started settling here, things would soon change.
First, they would uncover rare minerals and then the plantation of corps would begin. The whole place of plantations of rare crops along with food.
And rights of this would go to the families who lent the soldiers, and the remaining ones would go to the Federation which would distribute them to five continents.
When seen from the other shoe, both sides were either wrong or there was no right or wrong out here. The death of goblins was unjust so was the death of people on his side.
But as said by certain baldy. The resources of the universe were finite. It's the survival of the fittest.
'Whatever may be, all I need to do is snap that son of a bitch head.'
Leon walked ahead into his squad which might have already been assigned and bumped into a dead eye, Ian.
He was a blonde guy without no facial hair. His facial expression looked like someone who hadn't hit puberty sadly he was already 25 years old.
"Leon!"
"You are in our squad?"Ian spat in bewilderment along with others who stood there stunned.
"I was given the privilege to choose.''Leon smiled looking around.
"I am Leon, it's nice to have your back," Leon spoke and extended his hand to greet the other.
"I am Vikram.'
"I am Sanders alas people call me Douche."
PFFT!
Leon almost fell on his feet when he heard that name followed by others bursting into laughter.
"What's with that name?"Leon suppressed the urge.
"It's a long story. Just don't mention it."
As for others, they were already lying and trying to conserve their energy.
There was a break for an hour, much to everyone's surprise. Generally, army training went on for several hours but after 3 hours of short exercise, there was a break.
This doesn't bode well with them giving them a sense of deja vu.
And as expected of the bad premonition.
Horns sounded again startling everyone.
"Newbies, prepare yourself. We are going to war."Vice Commander Thane's voice echoed.
"What already?"
"Didn't we fight just now?"
"It's so sudden."
"Shut up!"Peter screamed, hitting the helmets of the ones at the front.
"Everybody get hold of yourselves. Shut up and follow the orders. If you keep on chattering uselessly like that you might also handover your death to the enemies uselessly."
.....
[Spoiler]
