Chapter 52 It's Not What It Is
Chapter 52 It's Not What It Is
The cool crisp air, the ice on the road mirrors and the harsh orange glow of the street lamps were seen in Lucas's eyes once he opened the door.
He stepped outside and the sharp crunch of snow beneath his feet was heard as the person outside was waiting for him to come.
"Wha-what is this, Haya?" Lucas repeated his question.
He was expecting to see a bunch of people, or maybe even a gang confront them, but he raised his eyebrows of surprise when a white snowflake landed on his face.
The weather changed in just twenty minutes, before they entered the weapon shop it was still summer season.
Seeing the white colour covering the buildings, and the person who was standing like a statue as if he was waiting for him, Lucas turned to Haya one more time.
Haya's eyes widened, as he saw a ghost. His already white skin was turning pale almost as if his blood pressure dropped instantly.
"What is happening?" Kali was turning her head to the sides and front.
The boy in front of them was standing in bare feet, like Xina.
But the difference between them was that the boy was actually shivering. His arms were crossed around his chest, and his jaw kept on trembling out of the cold.
"This boy..." Haya paused while staring at him.
"This boy what?" Lucas whispered.
He looked nothing but cold in Lucas's eyes, "we should help him!" Lucas walked towards him and removed the dark gown covering the boy's shoulders.
This wasn't gonna be much of a help, but seeing the boy who was about his sister Mina's age had softened his heart, "where do you live?" He asked the boy.
"You have to follow me." The boy spoke only one sentence when he looked Lucas in eye eyes.
No introduction or telling him where he lives, but only one sentence. This looked to Lucas like he was programmed, "will I have to unlock you to talk to you as well?" He placed his palm on his forehead.
"Where are your parents, kid?" Lucas repeated himself.
He didn't notice when Kali approached them from behind too, "here, use mine too..." She gently covered the front of his body.
"But you will get cold yourself," Lucas frowned.
He wasn't going to be happy to see Kali getting cold. This world was full of new things and the winter wasn't something we would have expected it.
"I'll be fine, there's nothing to worry about." She inhaled more air.
"Lucas, Kali... This kid right there is the black wizard's son." Haya stepped forward.
The black wizard was the enemy of this place, and it was supposed to be Lucas's duty to take him down and kill him. All these people who steal gems, are related to him and his organisation in this place.
The organisation started when Izek was the protagonist of this story, but later on, when Izek freed himself from the system he was the one to control them.
To see the black wizard's son in front of them was something that Haya didn't expect it. As he remembered correctly, this boy was a huge part of the story before he Haya's mind was freed from the system.
"Is he a bad kid?" Lucas turned to him.
Taken back by his question Haya froze for a minute. His body stopped moving as he didn't know what to say.
This boy wasn't a bad boy, but more like a victim of this story. He was sacrificed by his own father to summon the monsters and control them. When he finds out that this boy was the main reason why the black wizard was allowed to control these creatures, Haya's heart almost dropped on the floor.
"No, he's not..."
"Then what's the problem, Haya?"
"No problem, we should start moving." He looked at Xina.
"What about him? Are we going to leave him here?" Lucas looked at Kali with worried eyes.
The dark circles under his eyes made him look sleepy and tired, Lucas didn't want to leave this boy here alone. He didn't know what was his story, but it seemed like a bad idea to make him stay here by himself.
Kids were not always his favourite type of humans, but Lucas had a soft heart when it was coming to kids. Every single sick kid reminded him of Mina.
"He can come with us."
"Boy, what is your name?" Kali leaned down to look him in the face.
His face was turning blue probably from the fast change of weather. There was not a lot of snow yet, but you could clearly freeze if you had no shoes of proper clothes on.
"Here, jump on my back." Lucas bent down and turned his back shoulders on him, showing he could use them as he pleases.
The boy stood there with no words coming out of his mouth, 'maybe he's really shy?' Lucas thought to himself when taking a gentle step back with his bent legs.
"I won't hurt you, but it will fasten our process to reach a nice place." He smiled softly.
He knew how to talk to kids since he spent so much time in the hospital with his little sister. She had many kids coming to her ward and bringing her small handmade gifts, and Lucas's job was to entertain them sometimes when she felt sleepy or dizzy.
Kids just wouldn't understand that and won't leave until she woke up, so Lucas used to play some games with them until they get exhausted. He would then lead them to their wards and help them prepare to sleep by reading children's books to them.
Nobody knew about this side of his, even Kali.
"I won't bite, don't worry." Lucas waved his hands a little in the air.
The kid looked lost and confused, he didn't understand what Lucas was trying to do, but he smiled, and that helped him to think of Lucas as a kind person.
"Follow me." The boy leaned his head to the side when lifting the corners of his lips.
Everyone was in quite a shock to see the boy act this way. His shivering body and the skin that had lost its colour on his face made him look hopeless and weak, but yet he was smiling brightly here.
"Follow me." He repeated himself.
