Chapter 1558: Because I feel heartache for you.

“I understand. Then, I will go change my clothes first before coming back. Is that alright?”

Qu Jingwan pressed her red lips slightly as she arched an eyebrow. “I will listen and do everything you order me from now on. This company is Ziming’s, so how can I make him lose face?”

The manager was surprised by the quick change in her attitude. It was as though she were a different person from the one who had harshly scolded the male manager moments ago.

“Alright. I am glad for the CEO that Miss Qu is this mature. You may go change first. I will give you further orders after you are done changing.”

“Sounds good.”

The other nodded, her black eyes flashing with wicked iciness.

Meanwhile, Ji Ziming was sitting in the VIP ward, talking to He Yun on the phone.

“Sir, Miss Qu wore an expensive outfit in the office today. According to your orders, Manager Wang brought her for a round in several departments. Now, everyone knows that she’s from an affluent family. Ellie reported that the missy had harshly scolded Manager Wang in front of so many employees.”

“Add two million to Manager Wang’s year-end bonus.”

The man raised an eyebrow as he continued in his low voice. “No, forget about that. Add one million to his salary this month and two million to his year-end bonus.”

“Sir, does it have to be that much?”

He Yun was a little suspicious of his boss. Did he really need to give that manager that much? Moreover, the female manager was the one who had settled the issue in the end.

“Yes, we do. He is a talent. Have you forgotten that he’s the one who insisted on hiring Ellie?”

The man turned to look at Pei Ge’s ward. She should be with the three children right now.

“Alright. I will inform the general manager now.”

“Oh, right. Give her the same reward.”

He walked toward the ward. His tall stature was stretched further in his reflection on the white-tiled floor. On his handsome features, his thin lips parted open. “If anyone is unhappy with today’s events, continue adding to that by a million at a time.”

He hung up after he was done speaking and quickened his steps toward his woman’s ward.

By making her appear in front of the crowd in such a manner, it was already obvious who the CEO’s wife was between her and Pei Ge. He only needed to do something small to make her lose her cool and patience. Who knew what would happen if this continued further?

“Daddy, is the red dress or the white dress nicer?”

Seeing him enter, Ran Ran quickly picked up two identical-looking skirts and showed them to him. She blinked her large and beautiful eyes. The clarity in them resembled the one in Pei Ge’s so much. “Say something.”

“I think the white is nicer.”

He carried his daughter up and set her on his bent elbow before reaching out to pinch her adorable cheek. “Our little girl is the most beautiful princess no matter what you wear.”

“Really?”

She smiled at him and excitedly asked, “Mommy says this red is nicer; who should I listen to?”

“Which one does our baby girl like?”

“I like both,” admitted his daughter. The hesitation in her eyes made his eyes turn warm.

“Then, wear both. How about you wear the white today and the red tomorrow?”

“Okay!”

She excitedly hugged the two dresses to her chest. Her excited look made the woman, who was sitting on the bed, smile, too. “My dear daughter, come to mommy.”

He walked over to the bed. Looking at the wound which had just been redressed by the nurse, he asked, “Does it still hurt?”

“It doesn’t anymore. The nurse said that it’s about to scab. The wound is fine as long as it doesn’t touch water. I will be able to leave the hospital by tomorrow.”

“Let’s get you discharged once you are fully healed.”

“Why?”

She could not understand why he was unwilling to let her return to the company when she was able to move freely now. She was even not present in court when Huang Zhian was tried.

Right now, she was akin to a canary in a golden cage—unable to go or hide anywhere.

“Because I feel pained for you.”

As expected, the moment he said this, Pei Ge stopped talking and merely rolled her eyes at him.

“How corny.”

“What about it? Don’t you like me, anyway?”

“Daddy is acting like a ruffian! Hng! Stupid daddy!”

The girl quickly covered her ears upon hearing him say such words, wanting to push him away now and run back to her room.

“Go find your older brothers to play with. Your mommy and I have something to discuss.”

His eyes darkened at little. The seriousness on his face made his daughter quickly jump down the bed and run out of the door. While running, she even shouted, “Daddy is being a ruffian; I hate daddy the most!”

Once the girl was gone, he told the woman why he had not allowed her to get discharged. After he explained all his reasons, Pei Ge slowly asked, “How is Qu Jingwan doing at the company now?”

“Exactly as what you are thinking.”

He slowly strode over to the windows. His dark eyes were dyed with the warmth of the sunlight as he looked at her. “Don’t you want to know why I am doing this?”

“On the surface, you are giving her sufficient face and allowing her to be Miss Qu. In truth, you merely want to use Manager Wang and the chauffeur’s hands to expose all her weaknesses to the people in the Ji Group. I think you’re going overboard and it’s unfair to her. Still, I like it.”

“Hmph!”

He lightly snorted before quickly walking toward her. Stopping before her, he lowered his head and planted a soft kiss on her lips. “I am doing all of this for you.”

“I know.”

It was because the woman knew that he was trustworthy that she could calmly cooperate with him even when she was being threatened by Huang Zhian. From beginning to end, she knew that she had already taken roots in his heart.

Just as Ji Ziming moved to say something more, Pei Ge’s handphone, which was on the side table, rang. It was a foreign number, with not even an area code.

“Hello?”

When she picked up the call, only to hear nothing from the other end except for wind.

“Hello?” she asked again. This time, there was the sound of mechanical whirring.

“Is anyone there? Can you hear me?”
