Chapter 276 My Sister-In-Law Is My Surrogate 35
Chapter 276 My Sister-In-Law Is My Surrogate 35
?
Chen Meili's body suddenly fell limp but before she could hit the ground, He Yuan dashed forward to catch her. The child was as important to him as it was to the Hans. Afterall, It was Xu Lifen's ticket out of the Han home with the twins.
After looking down at the passed out special one in his arms, He Yuan turned to his System. He hadn't missed the look of terror in both the Reaper and their System's eyes. He gave 888 a once over contemplatively. "What just happened?"
A few feet away, 888 had a absentminded look in his eyes. He Yuan was about to call out once more when,
"What are you doing?!"
Han Tao reached the top of the stairs then and the first thing he saw was an unconscious Chen Meili in Xu Lifen's arms. Dread pooled in his heart and he asked that question.
Without waiting for an answer, he rushed forward and snatched the special one from He Yuan's arms. Cradling Chen Meili in his arms, he turned to glare at He Yuan with veins popping on his forehead. "Xu Lifen, if anything happens to my child, I will never forgive you!"
Behind Han Tao, Min Yanyu, Han Rong, Han Yi and Han Jiao, who were all coming up the stairs froze when they heard the shout. They began walking up the stairs faster but three seconds later, they ran into Han Tao rushing down the stairs carrying Chen Meili.
Min Yanyu's eyes widened. "What happened?!"
"Get the car ready!" Han Tao merely instructed without stopping.
Min Yanyu looked up the stairs and then to Han Rong before all four people rushed after Han Tao.
On the second floor;
He Yuan calmly stood straight and walked over to his System. 888 hadn't moved an inch since the Reaper left. Even when Han Tao had suddenly come upstairs, the System still had that thoughtful appearance.
He was very curious about the entire situation and the fact that his System seemed so absentminded made his curiosity burn brighter. For some reason, his mind drifted to the masked guy back at the Soul realm. Losts of off putting things were happening lately.
With a concerned frown, He Yuan lifted his hand and gently tapped the System's cheek. "888?"
888 slowly came out of his thoughts then. Some minutes ago -after he materialized- he'd noticed the weird expression on the face of the Reaper's System. Out of curiosity, he'd discreetly intercepted the telepathic communication between the Reaper and their System.
He locked eyes with his host and subconsciously asked out loud, "What's a First generation System?'
He Yuan's brows pinched together. "First... generation System?"
Realizing he'd asked his question out loud, 888 gave a startled blink. He also noticed the feeling of a warm palm on his cheek at that moment. "It's... er..." He lifted a hand to his lips and cleared his throat before dodging his host's eyes and stepping back a bit. "I don't know."
He Yuan pursed his lips and rubbed his fingers together in slow motion. The more time he spent as a Tasker, the more he realized how very little he knew and that was beginning to bother him more and more.
The Soul realm was strict in its management and the allocation of tasks was also done in a strict manner. For what reason would a Reaper suddenly appear in a realm that he was counterattacking in?
With no answers to his steadily growing questions, He Yuan poked the inside of his cheek and calmly nodded at 888. In a corner of his mind, he safely tucked away the words, 'First generation System' -right next to the image of the masked Hunters that he'd seen in the Soul realm and the four words that particular dichromatic one had mouthed to 888.
888 adjusted his glasses and nodded at his host before slowly demateralizing.
Ten seconds later, He Yuan turned around and walked back to the room. There was no need to go to the hospital anymore. Afterall, his aim had been to let Xu Lifen 'accidentally find out' about the pregnancy.
That aim was already achieved all thanks to Han Tao and his blind worry for Chen Meili.
-------------------
At the hospital, Chen Meili was admitted and attended to by the doctors whilst the Hans waited outside.
Han Tao paced about impatiently, whilst the Han Madam held the top of her walking stick so tightly that her hands trembled. She absolutely could not believe that that Xu girl had gone as far as to harm Chen Meili!
Min Yanyu placed her hands on her thighs and watched the door worriedly whilst Han Rong repeatedly looked from the door to her three daughters. Three because the third triplet, Han Wen, had returned from college just this morning too but hadn't been able to get into the mansion before she was suddenly dragged by her mother into a car with the words, 'Meili might be dying!'
Han Yi and Han Jiao also divided their attention between the door and staring at their youngest sister, Han Wen. They might all share the same face but the third triplet hardly paid them any mind.
Unlike everyone else, Han Wen had her face buried in a book, blatantly ignoring everyone else. The doctors weren't done yet and although she wasn't really clear on how her 'cousin-in-law might be dying,' overthinking things was pointless.
Fu Lan had her hands folded in a praying gesture as she alternated between staring at the door and watching Han Tao in concern whilst her husband, Han Yuanjun, was leaning against the wall with his arms crossed and a thoughtful appearance on his face.
Truthfully, he did not like the direction things were going. He eyed his nephew. If it was possible, he would have preferred if Han Tao did not divorce Xu Lifen now that the woman had changed but... his eyes moved to the door and then he sighed. It seems things were already a little late...
The last of the bunch, Gu Longwei, was seated at the ending of the cushioned bench and whilst everyone else was either worried about Chen Meili or the general state of things, he was lost in thought.
These past months, he had to hold off on his midnight rendevouz with Meili because the young woman had been paranoid and didn't want to accidentally lose the pregnancy.
It was already the third month and things were very safe. In fact, it was even advised to have a healthy amount of sex during pregnancy but now that Han Tao was back and it was possible that he would marry Meili, what was going to happen to him, Gu Longwei, and his own needs?
At that moment, a nurse walked out and Han Tao was the first to get to her. "What's the situation?"
The nurse gave a confused smile. "Actually, there's no situation. The patient is fine. Completely fine in fact. It almost seems like you had carried her off her bed and brought her here whilst she was sleeping."
She gave a little tension breaking laughter in the end but the Hans weren't buying it. Since they hadn't witnessed what had happened on the second floor, they all turned to Han Tao.
The man in question frowned. He'd clearly saw Xu Lifen viciously pressing down on Chen Meili's stomach with both hands. How could Meili be fine after that? He narrowed his eyes at the nurse. "Are you sure?"
The nurse's eyes twitched but she maintained her patient smile. She did not spend four years in nursing school and neither did the doctor spend over 7 years in college to be doubted like this but what could be done?
She simply nodded and smoothly changed the topic, "On the other hand, the patient is awake and we could begin an ultrasound to check the gender of the baby when you're ready."
Han Tao nodded firmly and directly walked past her into the ward whilst the rest followed behind.
In the ward, Chen Meili rested her back against the serveral pillows and placed her hands on her stomach with a rosy expression.
Han Tao subconsciously smiled on relief and walked up to her, "Are you alright?"
Min Yanyu popped out from behind and followed with, "What exactly happened?"
Chen Meili frowned in confusion. "I woke up early, got dressed and walked out of my room. Outside my family wing, I met Sister-in-law Lifen and then..." Her memory suddenly became blurry and she looked to Han Tao with distressed eyes. "I can't remember what happened next..." She looked around. "How did I get here?"
He Yuan grit his teeth and let out an unnatural chuckle. If Xu Lifen didn't do anything, why would Meili be in this state? He clenched and unclenched his fists before reaching out and softly stroking her hair. "Don't think too much, I'm here."
Chen Meili looked up at him and began blushing bashfully.
"Ahem!" Han Yuanjun cleared his throat and looked back at the door. "Why don't we begin the ultrasound, hm?" He felt a little uncomfortable that Chen Meili had called Xu Lifen sister-in-law and still looked at Han Tao with adoring eyes... all under 30 seconds.
Han Tao turned back then and Chen Meili's hands shook a little. She was a quite nervous. Although she was aware that brother Tao and Xu Lifen would get a divorce regardless of the gender of her baby, a male child would earn her the approval and support of everyone.
Ten minutes later, the equipment was set up and the doctor applied a cool gel on Chen Meili's bulge. Next he took out the transducer and ran it gently over Chen Meili's stomach.
The nurse behind the video monitor watched closely and after two minutes, her eyebrows raised in surprise. She gave it another minute before slowly turning the monitor with a bright smile. "It appears you're expecting not one but three babies and it appears they're all boys."
Chen Meili, Han Tao and every single Han froze. Triplets? All boys?
Next to the wall, excitement pooled in Gu Longwei's heart and he smirked. Of course his seed was powerful! It could be seen from how he'd gotten his wife pregnant with triplet girls right after the first three girls.
The only downside was that Han Rong's body was disappointedly subpar so she couldn't produce boys. A bright smile appeared on his face and unable to control his excitement anymore, he pumped his fists and nodded in satisfaction. "Good!"
At Gu Longwei's exclamation, every other person slowly came out of their stunned excitement.
The Han Madam shakily walked over to gingerly pat Chen Meili's head with a bright and wrinkled smile. Three boys! Three pure males conceived the right way and from two elites no less! Just like Gu Longwei had said...
It was truly good!
