Book 12: Chapter 175: Who (3)

The whole alchemy world was shocked. No… the whole Immortal Plane.

No one had ever heard of Nazaire having a master. But, this wasn’t important. No one believed that a youth of Dyon’s age had actually raised up Nazaire. They all thought that Nazaire must have lost a bet to Dyon and was now acknowledging this bet in order to protect his dao heart.

This ‘truth’ made those watching on feel incredibly aggrieved for Nazaire. Maybe it was due to their inherent bias against mortals, but everyone seemed to see Dyon as a villain, rather than a youth who had just accomplished something they all deemed to be impossible.

In the end, Nazaire continually knocked his head on the ground beneath Dyon’s cold stare, causing those around him to feel a rage bubbling up in his chest. Was this not enough for him yet?!

“Alright, alright.”

In the end, it wasn’t Dyon who helped Nazaire up, but rather Saru and Lilith.

“Mistresses!” Nazaire tried to bow again, but was stopped by the two women who looked upon him with a bit of fondness.

He had been so focused on the match that he hadn’t even noticed that Saru and Lilith were here. He hadn’t met Dyon’s other wives before, but he recognized the two of them with ease. While he saw Dyon almost like his own father, these two were mother figures in his life. He felt a deep guilt having not acknowledged them until now.

“He’s a stubborn old codger, forget him.” Lilith said, rubbing Nazaire’s head like an elder would a junior.

Dyon snorted and looked away, neither denying nor accepting the words.

No one seemed to understand what was going on. Could it be that Nazaire had really sunk into his role to this extent?

Unfortunately, no one knew that Dyon had taken a disciple before, let alone four of them. So, even Gilpin, who knew that Dyon had reincarnated, didn’t make the connection. On top of that, even if he suspected something, he would throw it out. Reason being, he knew that Dyon had been on the mortal plane. It was impossible for someone to still be a mortal and transcend. The only mortals on the Immortal Plane were those directly born here. So, maybe even until the last moment… he would still fail to make the connection.

“Fine, since you’re so sincere, I wouldn’t mind wasting a bit of my time.”

Nazaire smiled bitterly, a bit used to his master’s personality. He had suffered beneath it many times before. However, this didn’t stop those listening on from bristling in anger. Immortal God Crane even wanted to directly attack, but he suffered a cold glare from Nazaire himself that made him feel as though he had been dunked into a river of ice.

“It’s nothing complicated.” Dyon said casually. “Your Endowment of Refinement is very good. Being able to make any pill you refine reach the ninth refinement, impressive indeed. Worthy of being my disciple. Not only that, but you stacked this with your Endowment of Purification. Unfortunately, it’s not worth much beneath my Endowment of Creation.”

The alchemists were shocked again, first because Nazaire actually used two Endowments, but secondly because Dyon actually knew what they were… It had to be said that they hadn’t even seen Nazaire’s pills yet, but Dyon could see through this?

And third… What the hell was the Endowment of Creation? Why hadn’t they heard of such a thing before?

Dyon shrugged. “Since two main ingredients were missing, I just modified the pill formula to not need them, splicing together the supporting heavenly herbs to cover for their part of the process.”

Nazaire’s eyes widened.

“Master… What is the Endowment of Creation?”

“It’s exactly what it sounds like.” Dyon said. “It’s an Endowment that creates. Specifically, it creates a path. It relies on nothing but myself. I call it an Endowment because it’s equally as magical, but the truth is that it doesn’t rely on the bullshit Heavens at all. Only reason I allowed the Endowment of Multiplicity to take hold this time was because I could cheat the Heavens out of using its power to help me.”

Immortal God Millman and Crane felt their eyelids twitching. Which lab was this boy concocted in? Wasn’t he afraid to get struck down by the Heavens speaking like this?

They couldn’t help but take a subconscious step back.

“Every refinement is different from the last.” Dyon continued. “The way a heavenly herb is refined of its purity, the minute changes to flame temperature, even small changes in the angles of our fingers when executing hand signs. Only the mediocre remain stiff and execute the same routine again and again, hoping for a different result.

“If that is already the case, why not go a step further? Who said the pill formula has to remain the same from pill to pill, even if the same product is the goal? So I casually changed around a few things. It’s still the same pill in the end.”

Nazaire’s eyes shone with almost too much fervor. It was almost as though Dyon was both a nude woman and the love of his life.

“But… There’s one thing I still don’t understand, master. How did you win with a 99% purified pill?”

Dyon’s lip curled.

“Two things. One, a nine times refined phantom pill is only as good as a 90% purified true pill. So, why wouldn’t I win?”

The alchemists were struck silent. That was right… They had gotten so caught up in the tribulations that they completely forgot this fact. Many of them, Immortal God Crane especially, couldn’t help but blush in shame.

“Second… Who said this was a 99% pure pill?”
