Chapter 33: Chapter 33 Everything is Ready
Qian Faliang followed closely, his face exhilarated as he wiped off the rain from his angular face.
“Thanks to the master, I’ve found those thieves! But I’m weak, so we’ll need the master’s strength to capture them!”
Qi Yue already had some suspicions but did not show them.
“You a dog, now giving orders to the master!”
“I wouldn’t dare!”
With the sound of a horse’s neigh, the carriage wheels sped up, tossing up dust that landed precisely on Qian Faliang’s face.
“You fat cow, I’ll make you kneel and beg for mercy very soon.”
The wind was fierce and the rain heavy; as soon as these words were uttered, they were swallowed up by the muddy ground, disappearing without a trace.
Braving the rain, the journey took about a shichen, and the convoy of exiles finally arrived at the entrance to the canyon.
Seeing the only path blocked ahead, Qi Yue raised an eyebrow.
Was it time for action?
She turned her head to look at Qian Faliang.
“Is there another way out of this place?”
Qian Faliang had just caught up, panting heavily, and blurted out without thinking.
“Yes, yes, I know a place where we can take shelter from the rain temporarily!”
Qi Yue sneered inwardly.
“Good, go and ask Commander Guan what he thinks.”
A shichen later, under the lead of Qian Faliang, the convoy of exiles arrived at a wind-shielded gully.
The wind- and rain-beaten group no sooner saw the refuge than they collapsed on the ground like they had marrow depletion, unwilling to get up.
Considering those five men in black who had previously tried to capture Zhao Xiyan, Qi Yue dared not lower her guard for a moment.
Looking at Zhao Xiyan, who was serenely composed, sitting upright like a proud swan, Qi Yue couldn’t help but caution him.
“That Mr. Qian might be making his move, be careful.”
“How can I, a disabled person, protect myself better than Yueyue can take care?”
Zhao Xiyan’s voice was slightly resentful but as flat as melting snow, showing a silent sign of weakness.
Qi Yue’s mouth twitched.
As if the man who killed five people last night wasn’t him!
However, her gaze shifted to Zhao Xiyan’s immobile legs, and her voice softened inexplicably.
“Don’t talk like that about yourself; I will find a way for your legs eventually.”
But she wondered inwardly whether Spiritual Spring Water really had no effect on Zhao Xiyan’s legs.
“Good, I await Yueyue’s good news.”
The pair of dark eyes behind the black mask shimmered with a smile, but in Qi Yue’s heart, they stirred ripples.
She unconsciously turned her face away, her cheeks gradually reddening.
He surely wasn’t trying to flirt with her, was he?
Curiously enough, she had thought this man would be of a colder disposition, yet he turned out to be gentle and kind.
Thus they waited for the rain to stop for another shichen.
The sky grew increasingly dark; the storm swept the heavy clouds around the gully, and the rain intensified.
Guan Yidao had already dispatched a Government Official to find a place to take shelter, and they now had a result.
It was said that about a li to the south, a cave had been found that could accommodate several people.
Hearing this, Qi Yue instinctively glanced at Qian Faliang and, not unexpectedly, saw the sly smile hiding at the corner of his lips.
Too coincidental!
The storm had intensified, the path was blocked, and conveniently, there was a cave.
She wondered, however, just what he was planning to do?
Qi Yue could be sure of one thing: as long as she kept Qian Faliang within her sight, Zhao Xiyan would also be safe, and that would not be a problem.
She couldn’t believe it. Would Qian Faliang really risk his own life just to stubbornly oppose her?
It was also strange. Since their arrival here, Qian Faliang had been behaving like a mole, keeping his head down and standing not too close yet not too far from her, as if he had read her mind.
The team had moved to a cave again, which was relatively safer.
However, the coachman refused to follow them any longer.
Qi Yue simply settled the accounts and even gave him a carriage.
After all, once they passed through the Dayuan Uninhabited Area, they would soon reach the Longnan County Government, and in a few days, the Place of Exile at Longnan Ridge.
The path ahead was narrow, allowing only two people to walk side by side, so naturally, the carriage was no longer needed.
The coachman thanked them profusely and then hurried away in the rain, along the road they had come from.
Qi Yue watched his figure shrink to a dot in the rain, and her unease grew.
It seemed like even the heavens were brewing some kind of conspiracy.
At this moment, Guan Yidao came out from the deepest part of the cave and walked straight toward her.
“Qi Yue, do you want to go take a look?”
“Didn’t you already look? Did you find anything?” Qi Yue raised her eyebrows, glancing sidelong at Qian Faliang nearby.
That fellow still wore his usual compliant look, showing no sign of plotting anything.
But Qi Yue felt something was off.
Guan Yidao followed her gaze and glanced at Qian Faliang, then quickly turned his eyes back to the rain curtain outside.
“There’s only this one entrance and no other exits out of here.”
“Normal, not all caves have a back door.”
Qi Yue joked, but her mind continued to ponder what actions Qian Faliang might use to coerce her.
Guan Yidao’s dark eyebrows furrowed, making the scar at the corner of his eye look more ferocious.
“I’m worried…”
“You’re worried someone will block the cave, and then we’ll just have to wait for death?” Qi Yue took over his line of thought.
“Yeah,” Guan Yidao said, his tone a bit heavy.
“Your concern is valid, but right now, if nothing has happened and you ask them to leave, would they agree?” Qi Yue turned to look at the exiles who were preparing to spend the night here.
Guan Yidao looked even more distressed.
He gripped the whip in his hand tighter and glanced at the pouring rain outside, finally heaving a sigh.
Qi Yue, on the other hand, wasn’t nervous.
What was destined to come, would come eventually. If it couldn’t be avoided, then she would face it head-on!
She had already surveyed the mountain.
A substantial mix of sand and soil made it relatively stable and tough. Unless there were other disturbances, such a volume of rain wouldn’t collapse it.
The only way to block the cave entrance would be using manpower.
And since manpower was involved, there would definitely be a way to resolve it, so she needn’t worry.
Now, she just needed to ensure that Qian Faliang was in her control.
She looked at the sky, obscured by the rain curtain, and smiled slightly.
There was still a Shichen until dinner, and if nothing unexpected happened, Qian Faliang would likely make his move soon.
This man was overly cunning yet not smart enough.
Hadn’t he thought that if the poison continuously tormented him, it wouldn’t be so easy to cure?
She was about to go inside the cave to discuss the situation with Zhao Xiyan when she heard consecutive booming sounds overhead.
Almost instantly, the cave entrance was shrouded in choking white dust, followed by numerous rocks of all sizes tumbling down.
The danger came too quickly, leaving Qi Yue almost no time to react.
Everything was ready, both ruthless and precise!
