Rebirth of the 8th-Circle Mage

Chapter 174 - Waled (2)

Chapter 174 - Waled (2)

Chapter 174 - Waled (2)

“S-Sir Henry! W-what is that…!”

Astonished, Henry hardened like stone, and Nadasman urged him in a trembling voice.

Henry couldn’t help but swear.

‘That son of a…!’

That was definitely a Chimera.

Waled had turned into a Chimera right after he had been hit with the Acid Breath.

- Kheee!

The explosion caused by Waled had been quite powerful.

Unfortunately, there was no way for Henry to know how the explosion had happened because he had just been about to return to the camp. However, he was sure of one thing - the explosion had been big enough to crush Elagon’s morale.

- Goop, goop.

Waled had transformed into a Chimera, and Henry couldn't help but imagine that he had to look similar to Mordred, who had also undergone the same transformation described by Von.

With his mouth half open, Henry continued to stare at the grotesque creature.

“Sir Henry!”

“Be quiet!”

Oong!

Seeing that Henry wouldn’t respond no matter how much he urged him, Nadasman shouted in frustration. However, that was a stupid act that only managed to further irritate Henry.

Henry swung his arm in anger and cast sleeping magic in a wide range.

Thud! Thud! Thud!

All the soldiers that were waiting below, including Nadasman, fell into a deep sleep.

‘Damn it!’

Henry was getting stressed.

This situation had never been part of his original plan, and apart from the unforeseen circumstance, Henry was enraged.

‘Alfred, that fucking bastard! How could he do something like this to his own damn son…!’

The reason for Henry’s anger was simple. No matter how unskilled and inadequate Waled was, he was still Alfred’s son. How could he have let him become a Chimera…? This was an extremely inhumane act and a severe breach of moral principles.

However, in this scenario, misunderstandings were bound to occur, because it was none other than Alfred, Waled’s guardian, who had allowed the human transformation procedure.

Henry slowly exhaled, releasing the anger that had built up in him.

“Ha…”

His breath was hot.

He sensed an impending burning sensation in his chest, as if it was likely to consume him if he didn't exhale calmly.

Henry murmured to himself, “Colt Armor.”

Znnn!

Henry didn’t think for long.

All he had to do was figure out a way to deal with this unforeseen situation and the cause of his anger. It was problems like these that one couldn’t overlook.

“Colt Sword.”

Znnn!

Pure white-golden armor covered the entirety of Henry’s body, and he was holding a sharp Colt Sword, flashing in the sunlight.

- Goop, goop, goop.

The monster was still growing.

It wasn’t clear whether Waled was pretending not to see Henry, but he wasn’t looking toward him at all.

- Khuu…

Henry heard Elagon whining in pain and he turned his head toward him.

Elagon had shrunk and he was seriously injured, gasping for breath.

- Goop, goop.

After growing new body parts, Waled began to move.

He had grown a meaty-looking tentacle from one part of his body. He then moved his filthy tentacle like a tail and stretched it out toward Elagon on the floor.

‘How dare you.’

Henry cast Blink, a spell for moving short distances quickly.

In an instant, he held Elagon and wielded his sword, casting a spell called ‘Flame Wall.’

Whoosh!

Henry swung his sword as if he were drawing a line on the ground, and a wall of flames rose from the tip of his sword.

The tentacle hesitated for a moment against the heat.

In the meantime, Henry patted Elagon and said, “Good work, you may rest easy now.”

- Khu…

Elagon’s massive size and husky voice were only the result of his anger. Even if Elagon evolved into a spirit king, he was still only a child.

Henry dismissed Elagon, who was trembling.

He then glared with cold eyes through the flames and growled, “I’ll kill you in no time.”

Henry pointed his sword toward Waled, and then slowly raised it toward the sky, and uttered, “Roar of the thunder god!”

Bang!

As soon as he shouted the spell, dark clouds covered the bright sky. The clouds gathered on top of Henry and not Waled.

Boom!

A huge thunderbolt fell over Henry’s head, producing a roaring sound evocative of thousands of birds flying away.

Henry still had his sword pointed toward the sky. He didn't avoid the thunderbolt that had struck him, but instead received it with the tip of his sword.

Henry’s Colt Sword looked like a lightning rod, and like a real lightning rod, it channeled volts of energy from the thunderbolt.

Tzzzzz!

Having been struck by lightning, Henry’s Colt Sword made a sound similar to the cry of a beast struggling in pain.

Henry slowly lowered his sword to the right.

- Goop, goop!

At the same time, Waled finally stopped growing, and now he was four times larger than his original size.

He had transformed into a being that no longer resembled a human; he now resembled a Meat Golem typically found in the Demonic Beast Forest.

‘...How unfortunate.’

Chimeras were not necessarily bad. Well made Chimeras were recognized as great alchemic beings, and they could play the same role as Silder, the one who protected Henry’s treasures.

However, Waled wasn't the result of alchemy or anything of the sort. He was a creature born from grotesque desires, devoid of human dignity, and solely created for the purpose of murder. In essence, he was nothing more than a monster.

- Kwaaaa!

Waled let out a murderous roar.

Having turned into a Chimera, Waled was roaring as his instincts were telling him to kill Henry. However, it merely sounded like Waled was screaming to Henry.

Thud!

Henry stomped once and armed himself with magic. This was the most powerful skill set out of all the ones he had used so far.

He felt much lighter.

The magic was powerful to begin with, but thanks to the Colt Armor made from iron colt, the efficiency of his spell had been increased by several times.

Holding his thunderbolt-filled sword, Henry said, “Blink.”

Henry was now behind Waled and immediately swung his sword to the right.

Tzzz!

Henry swiftly struck Waled with his sword, leaving him with a huge wound.

- Kwaaa!

Waled screamed in pain.

The high voltage electricity in Henry’s sword instantly scorched Waled’s flesh, and the smell of burning matter spread everywhere. However, in spite of such extreme pain, Waled couldn’t counterattack as quickly as Mordred once had.

The reason for this was simple. As soon as the sword filled with high voltage electricity came in contact with Waled, his whole body became numb and his muscles were temporarily paralyzed.

Henry swung his sword once again and made a cross-shaped wound on his back.

“You’re done for.”

Strike!

Henry took out from the subspace the poison gold dagger Vulcanus had made for him, and thrusted it into the center of the cross-shaped wound.

“Blink.”

Using Blink, Henry quickly distanced himself from Waled, and squinted his eyes like a Viper as he stared at Waled.

- Ka, ke, kwaa, keee….

One strike from the thunderbolt sword was already hard to endure, but Waled had been slashed twice.

Unable to handle two of the high voltage attacks, Waled’s muscles tightened and he was convulsing, his eyes turning all the way back into his head.

Tzz.

The electricity from Henry’s sword disappeared after it had completed its purpose.

Everything had happened in the blink of an eye because Henry’s excellent physical abilities and magic skills had allowed him to move like a superhuman.

In addition, he had stabbed the monstrosity with Vulcanus’ masterpiece, the dagger made out of poison gold. Waled was going to die any time now as the poison would turn his body black and he would be vomiting blood.

- Ka, ke, kwaa, keee….

Waled fell on the ground from the excruciating pain.

Watching this, Henry thought, ‘He’s weaker than I thought.’

Of course, Henry was strong, but Von was also just as strong as Henry, or rather, Von could’ve been stronger than him.

However, Von had suffered life-threatening injuries, whereas Henry had managed to subdue Waled with just two sword strikes.

Henry had a bad feeling about this.

Whoosh!

Just then, a gust of wind blew next to Waled, the color of the wind being a mix of white and green. Then, the wind gathered in one area and a lion appeared.

‘Cillion?’

The lion was none other than Cillion, the highest level spirit of the wind.

Cillion was a spirit contracted to Waled, but Henry was just amazed at the fact that their contract was still valid despite the spiritualist becoming a monster.

- Kheeee…

Cillion licked Waled, who was shaking on the ground. Cillion looked like a lion licking its own cub.

‘I see. Contracts are made between the spirit and one’s soul. So unless Waled dies, their contract remains intact.’

Spiritualists had different types of spirits they could sign a contract with depending on their sociability and mental strength. However, once a contract was signed, the spirit would basically become the spiritualist’s soul mate, so there was no way of breaking their bond unless the spiritualist died. Also, because the spirit was contracted to the spiritualist’s soul, the spirit knew how the spiritualist felt better than anyone else.

- Knggg…

Cillion released a groan of grief. The lion was truly sad about the miserable fate of his spiritualist and its own inability to do anything besides watching.

- Khee…

Waled’s body continued to turn darker and darker due to the poison from the dagger stabbed in his back.

Being on the verge of death, Waled stretched out his darkened tentacle and patted Cillion, who was licking him.

‘It seems that he came to his senses before dying.’

It was a pitiful sight.

As Henry watched Waled saying his last goodbyes to his spirit, he decided to offer a small prayer for his death.

Crack!

- Khaa!

Cillion screamed.

Suddenly, countless horns came out from the tentacle that was patting Cillion and pierced through its neck.

‘What the hell?’

Henry stopped praying and tried to cast a spell to save Cillion, but a powerful gust of wind struck him.

“Argh!”

It wasn’t just an ordinary gust of wind. It was a kind of spiritual skill used by spiritualists.

Henry had no choice but to stop casting his spell.

Crack!

Waled’s large body, which was on the ground, split in two like the shell of a pupa. Just when Cillion was going to be dismissed back to the spirit world after being pierced in the neck, Waled began dragging it inside his body.

- Khaaa!

Cillion struggled till the end, but the tentacle was stronger.

Cillion was eventually sucked into Waled’s split body, and the two splits closed like a Venus flytrap.

- Khwaaa!

Waled let out a strange scream.

Soon, several more tentacles popped out and lifted Waled’s body.

“What the…!”

What was even more surprising was that Waled’s body was rapidly eliminating the poison that had turned it black.

Clank!

Waled ejected the poison gold dagger from his back, just as he had ejected thorns from his tentacle.
