His features were twisted from anger and he was no longer the soft and harmless young man that he normally was. His hand clenched into a fist and hit it hard against the wall. “Are they idiots?”
Under the given situation, anyone could see that the best course of action right now was to take a step up, stomp on Ren DongZhi and leech off of him in order to maximize their gain. He had already looked into it ahead of time and knew that both of them had signed with other companies and did not need to worry about Li XinYun. All they needed to do was to present themselves as victims. That way they would not be labelled as ungrateful even when they came across Shengxing in the future.
Never would he have expected that neither one of them would play along with him.
The public opinion, that had been on his side, also started leaning in the other direction. He quickly gave Gao Lin, his agent, a call and see if they should back off while they still could. At this rate, he worried that things would backfire and he would lose popularity with the public. After all, he didn’t just want to be a star, not a shooting star.
Gao Lin came over quickly in her stiletto. Her lips with bright-red lipstick raised up slightly and she did not seem concerned. “Don’t worry about it. All you need is your fans’ trust. Your appeal to the general public is irrelevant. They won’t do any good.”
Tong Jiaming’s type could only go the mass influential route. Their company picked him because of his fame and conflicts that he brought about. There was no such thing as negative publicity.
Gao Lin said to him, “A few businesses are interested in you. We will go meet up with them tomorrow. We should take advantage of your current popularity and negotiate a few contracts for you.” She was quite pleased that Tong Jiaming had been showing up on the most trending list for the last few days.
Tong Jiaming’s lips moved a little and he was finally able to squeeze out a few words. ‘I would like to release an album to thank my fans.”
Gao Lin frowned. “That can wait. An album will take at least a few months.” Nobody knew if he would still be popular like he was right now in a few months’ time. Their best bet was to cash in his current popularity and turn that into money. Besides, the album market had been pitiful. They might even lose money on it. Their company was in the business to make money, not lose money.
“But..”
“No buts! You will attend a few talk shows recently and remember to talk about how you had been wronged during the competition and create an image that you were the envy of all and how they tried to single you out.”
Tong Jiaming was dazed. Looking at the red lips that parted and met in front of him, he had an inkling that this wasn’t what he was after.
“You have no forgotten about your contract, have you?”
Her cold tone brought Tong Jiaming back to reality immediately and he recalled his 10-year contract. All of his ideas went away instantly. Lowering his head, he said in a low voice, “I remember.”
His agent wasn’t entirely wrong. Making money was the first and foremost. Once he had money, he could do whatever pleases him.
Tong Jiaming quickly readied himself and went with Gao Lin to negotiate his contracts in the next couple of days. Needless to say, he had been taken advantage of time and again during the process but he could do nothing but to keep his mouth shut.
Returning to his dormitory, his assistant pulled out a drink for him then went straight to getting him food. Being waited on hand and foot, Tong Jiaming felt much better. This was the exact life that he had wanted.
Except that, when he logged online to read about praises from his fans, he noticed many unharmonious voices and all of his fans’ comments had been pushed to the bottom.
One of the comments that had bubbled up to the surface was a negative one. “The pot is calling the kettle black. How shameless was that? You should be an actor instead. Becoming a singer is a waste of your talent.”
At loss, he had a bad feeling.
