Jiang WenYu only found that laughable.

“Isn’t Zhang Bi the one who is tainting the Zhang family’s reputation? As the victim of all this, is it wrong that I asked for an apology? Real brother? I don’t think he thought of me as a brother for even a second there.

“As the clan leader of the Zhang family, you not only not want the culprit punished when they commit a crime, you asked the victim to put up with it. You can’t tell right for wrong and had no sense of justice. If I had to put up with it today for the reputation of the Zhang family, do I have to give up my life for the glory of the Zhang family tomorrow? And just why would I want to do that?”

“Because you are a part of the Zhang family!” As an elder, he felt that he had been very tolerating toward WenYu. As it turned out, Zhang Wenyu had always been yelling at him and pointed at his nose and shouted at him. As someone who had been in high places for a long, long time, he could feel anger rising in him.

“Then I guess I should go back to become my Jiang WenYu,” said Jiang WenYu coldly.

Zhang Kaiyu’s eyes widened. He had not expected Jiang WenYu to give up the Zhang family so easily. Was he not tempted by all of the Zhang family’s resources?

His face taunt and, doing his best to control his anger, his eyes were like daggers. “Are you sure about that?

“Do you really think that Fang JunRong would be able to shelter you for life?”

Jiang WenYu’s voice turned cold. “I was poisoned just a year ago and I almost died. I was very baffled at the time. I am just a regular professor at a university, why would anyone want me dead?

“After I had returned to the Zhang family this year, I have read a lot of the Zhang’s documentations. I’ve learned that the kind of poison that was used on me was a lot like the effects of a kind of compounded poison made from the poisons of scorpions and centipedes that was documented in the Zhang family’s collection.”

He looked at Zhang Kaiyu without blinking. “I trust that you knew who it was who tried to poisoned me.

“After I was poisoned, someone even went as far as quitting my job for me at the university. I trust that it wouldn’t be too difficult to find out who it was who contacted the university should I spend some time to look into that.” That was why Jiang WenYu was certain that this grandfather of his was well aware of the incident. He may even have a hand in helping with the cleanup. His talent had yet to be discovered back then. As such, it was only natural for Zhang Kaiyu to choose Zhang Bi, whom he had known since childhood, over him.

Zhang Kaiyu’s lips moved a little and he looked away reflexively.

Jiang WenYu chuckled. “See? I knew you are aware of the incident.

“You can go now. The Zhang family had not shown me any mercy; so don’t blame me for not showing any mercy back.”

This was the first time Zhang Kaiyu felt that his grandson was a stranger to him. It was as though this was the first time the two had met. After a little while, his voice hoarse, he asked, “So you set Bi up on purpose?”

After he had learned of Zhang Wenyu’s hostility toward the Zhang family and after thinking through everything that had happened in the last couple of days, he could finally see things clearly now. The incident would not have escalated so quickly if Jiang WenYu was not behind it.

“He is my older brother after all. If the outcome of my research was what he was after, of course I should oblige. I didn’t think he would really steal every last bit of it.” He chuckled lightly. It was filled sarcasm.

Zhang Kaiyu felt that there were a 1,000-pound of rocks sitting on his chest right now. He had a hard time breathing. Clutching his chest, he was so angry that he busted out laughing, “Wonderful. Just wonderful.”

The words came through his gritted teeth, seeping with hatred.

He stood up and never once looked over at Jiang WenYu again. Since the negotiation had failed, he would have to move forward with plan B.

Jiang WenYu turned on his cellphone after Zhang Kaiyu had left. He had recorded the entire conversation between the two of them from earlier. He would still have this recording when things get very ugly with the Zhang family. This could defend all of his actions.

Jiang WenYu was not interested in scheming and plotting. But there were others who did not want him to just remain a simple researcher who would only stay within the confinement of the laboratory; as such, he had no choice but to take care of those obstacles first.

Ever since the very beginning, all he ever wanted to do was his research.
