Chapter 801: Kiliffia’s Training Part 4
"From your expression, you are probably wondering how I am able to speak to you so casually despite my people having long gone extinct. That is because I am nothing more than a consciousness that was uploaded into the system that runs this trial. While I may be able to live for all eternity. That does not mean I enjoy the lonely days." The golden figure was speaking as if Kiliffia was asking all kinds of questions.
"You see, my people once ruled this world. We were the dominant species. Well, I guess you could say we still are, in a sense. You see, we tried to gain immortality outside of the realm of having our consciousness uploaded into the main framework of the world. The ley lines that run through the world and give every creature here the power to do unimaginable things. But we did not test the outcome of our findings well enough.
"To be fair to the public, the ones who created the key to immortality spread the virus throughout the world, and what happened then was, well, you probably saw them, right? The monsters that now roam this world. I do not know how long it has been, I have long stopped counting the years, but the current world is nothing more than a monster filled world….. Why are you spitting out rainbow showers?" The golden figure looked at the fluff in front of him, bent over dry heaving and releasing rainbows from her mouth.
Kiliffia never thought the monsters she was eating were actually some sentient beings. Just thinking about the fact that she would happily munch on their meaty thighs made her feel sick. The golden figure suddenly laughed out loud. "Hahaha! You must have feasted on the monsters, yes? Do not worry, they are nothing more than monsters now."
Kiliffia wanted to hit this strange figure for even laughing at the fact that she was eating its brethren. But as its words sunk in, the queasiness of her stomach started to fade as she realized what it said was true. Although they used to be sentient beings, they were now nothing but monsters. She wiped her mouth and took a deep breath. "You mentioned something about a trial?"
"Mmm… This trial will decide how long you can soak in the main ley line of this world. If you are able to pass all the trials, then you can soak in the ley line for as long as your body can withstand it. The power in the ley lines is immense, and not many can stay in for more than five minutes. The one to stay in the longest was our king at that time, who stayed for more than thirty minutes. But sadly, he too turned into a monster." The golden figure lowered its head as it sighed.
"What do I need to do to take the trial?" Kiliffia asked. She did not care about anything else, but if this trial will truly make her stronger, she would definitely try it out. But she still had some misgivings.
"You just need to climb the stairs, except this time, you will end up being asked a question on each step. If your answer does not get accepted, you will be ejected from the stairs." The golden figure replied.
"I have one more question: how do I know you are not just trying to trick me to turn into one of those monsters?" Kiliffia did not want to end up as the people of this world.
"If you were to transform into a monster, you would have already. You see, the air is filled with the immortality virus my people designed. It was not like your normal virus. But one that could replicate in the air and spread around the world. Always replicating, never stopping. The transformation was almost instantaneous, with no way of stopping it nor the time to do so. It found its way into ventilation shafts until, finally, not a single soul escaped. Everyone turned into a monster. Only those with uploaded consciousness may be alive if you can call this being alive." The golden figure continued to ramble on and on, causing Kiliffia to become slightly annoyed, but since she needed as much information as possible, she still listened to everything it had to say. She was still unsure if the golden figure was male or female. It had a voice that could be male or female.
In summary, the golden figure's race, the Diolitians, were a highly advanced race in both technology and powers that they called gifts. These gifts ranged from different things from having stretchy skin to super strength. The only problem was that even if they had such gifts, they were still aging normally like everything else on the planet. They long sought after immortality, and then it happened. They made the virus that would grant them this immortality, and without a care, they spread the virus around the world only to end their civilization overnight.
Kiliffia was still a bit skeptical, but, She figured the old man who dropped her here was definitely talking about this ley line thing. If that was the case, then she should make use of it to make her own power grow above and beyond. Kiliffia knew she would need more power if she wished to stand by Kana's side. She wondered if she could drain the leylines and take all its power for herself.
Shaking her head, Kiliffia quickly scratched that thought. She knew she would need to take things slowly just in case something strange happened. "Then I would like to take the trial. I just need to begin my climb, right?"
The golden figure smiled and nodded its head. "Climb the stairs, and you will be met with a trial for each step."
"Then I will be off. Thank you for all the information. I will stop in to say goodbye after I return." After saying this, Kiliffia turned and went to step on to the first step cautiously. When her foot rested on the step, she tilted her head in confusion because nothing had happened. She furrowed her brow and lifted her other foot to stand firmly with her entire body on the step. As soon as her other foot rested on the step, a booming voice filled the air. "Trial Passed!"
