Chapter 920: Master And Disciple Part 2
Kana did make a few changes to her immortal cave, where she had a single room sealed off for her cultivation. She spent the night cultivating normally, and when the sun was about to come up, she left her immortal cave to go enjoy the morning sunrise. She had spotted a spot when they were flying to the mountain that jutted out from the mountainside that had a small grassy field in it.
Kana walked through the bamboo forest until she reached the clearing but stopped just at the entrance when she saw Yu Ling with a sword in her hand practicing. Each stroke of her sword and every movement looked like a dance. With each thrust and slash of her sword, a profound power was being sent out. Kana could see that Yu Ling never sent a strike towards the bamboo forest, always towards the edge of the cliff. She guessed this was to protect the bamboo forest from damage.
Kana did not wish to disturb her as she sat down on a nearby rock and watched in silence. She knew Yu Ling, even with her eyes closed the entire time, knew that she was here. But this did not stop her from continuing her practice.
Strike after strike, thrust after thrust, only when the sun finally rose high enough to shine on her did Yu Ling slow her pace to a stop. She took a deep breath and let it out slowly. When she opened her eyes, she turned to look at Kana with a smile. "What did you think?"
"It was mesmerizing. The flow of your sword was precise and was able to flow naturally with each of your movements. When I first arrived on this world and found myself in the lower plane, restricted by the binds of the heavenly laws. I met someone who was like me, who had become stuck on this planet. She worked hard and sadly died, only living by a thin shred of her soul. It was her who taught me the current forms of swordplay that I know from this world but even so…. Your style alone seems to resonate with me." Kana really liked the movements and felt that they suited her current style well.
"Do you mind if I give it a try?" Kana asked.
Yu Ling looked at Kana with wide eyes and said: "I do not mind but did you really remember the whole sequence?"
"You slowed down enough for me to see it all, so I would be a failure of a disciple if I did not learn it in one look," Kana said with a smile.
"Then please." Yu Ling's eyes flashed as she moved to the rock Kana was sitting on to take a seat. She watched as Kana walked to the middle of the clearing in her bare feet and stood there with her eyes closed. It was then that she suddenly felt a great pressure suddenly fall over the entire area. What she saw next was something she would remember for the rest of her life.
A sword appeared in Kana's hand that seemed to bring the heavens crashing down. The aura around Kana suddenly turned into a space of nothingness. Her eyes were void of anything. No emotion, no nothing. She had become nothing….
Kana did not even realize that she had so quickly entered a state of nothingness as she began moving her body as Yu Ling did. Each step caused the world around Kana to seemingly disappear. The once grassy field under Kana's feet vanished without a trace. There was no dirt, no nothing, just air with each step. As she thrust out, the space in front of her many miles distorted. With each slash, everything in its path would turn into nothingness.
Yu Ling could only stare at the scene with sweat dripping off her body. She wondered when she had ever felt fear like this. When had she ever seen something so beautiful yet so frightening at the same time? She wondered why the same sword technique that she had refined for so long looked even more beautiful and elegant when Kana did it and, at the same time, so deadly that she wished to hide from it.
While she was being filled with all these emotions, she noticed one thing. She had nothing to even teach Kana. Kana was someone who saw something once and could replicate it instantly. But then it happened. She began to see Kana's form change slightly from her own style. New, more refined movements were being added as Kana stepped on air and began dancing up towards the clouds. With each strike, the clouds in the sky disappeared.
A few hours passed, and Kana finally came out of her trance as she slowly landed on the ground. She opened her eyes to see the sun looking down at her. "Mmmm… This really does suit my current form."
Kana turned to see Yu Ling looking as if she had been drenched with a bucket of water, staring at her with a strange expression, one mixed with fear yet awe at the same time. "Master?" Kana called out while tipping her head to the side.
"I…. I do not think I am worthy enough to even have you call me master…." Yu Ling suddenly said.
Kana shook her head as she replied: "It's not about what you can teach me but how you guide me. I have the ability to replicate any sword stance and techniques after only seeing them once. But this does not mean I know everything. Your experience with the sword and everything that you have grown to learn over the years is something I will need to learn from, which makes you the perfect person to teach me. Because if you were an old man, I would never listen to you."
Yu Ling smiled and nodded. What Kana said was true. Even if you are able to copy the techniques on the first try does not make you a master of the sword. "Then we should prepare. Our master disciple ceremony will be held in front of the sect in a few hours along with the other new master disciple pairs."
